  1. This resolved when I pulled the whole dash. Found the AC amplifier on the evaporator box... it says amplifier right on it so yay for obvious labeling. It can be gotten to through the glove box. Lots of mouse debris in the evap box I'm sure better airflow helps.

  2. Thought I'd make a thread for my new Subaru. Gertie has the honour of being the second L series touring wagon I've owned. She was named by the previous owner, and is a 1989 NZ new Subaru Omega GL touring wagon, 5 speed dual-range. My first was an NZ new 1987 Leone GTX Turbo, 3AT pt4wd. Unfortunately she rusted out back in 2014, terminal firewall cancer. Since then I've had a Forester, a Vitara and I currently also own an r50 JDM Nissan Terrano. I saw this car in person several months ago, and strongly considered asking the owner if they'd be willing to sell. When it popped up on Facebook marketplace at an extremely reasonable price, I had to buy it, especially considering I was heading down to Queenstown that weekend regardless. So I made contact with the owner, and they arranged to take it for a wof, which it clean sheeted! They also kindly put 6 months registration on for me. I went to pick it up, and lo and behold the seller is a nurse that I was working with only several months ago! She and her husband (who is sadly terminally ill) had owned it since 1992, when they purchased it off a banker in Mosgiel. Only sold it because he couldn't drive it anymore and it had been sitting for a year. Condition is generally good. The metalwork is near perfect, no rust whatsoever besides a few minor stone chips. Interior is pretty average, dash is good but seats, door trims and headliner need recovering. Mechanically it's great, little bit of hesitation around 2500 rpm under moderate throttle but better with WOT and above 3000. Slight lifter tick from time to time, not too bad. Third has a somewhat worn synchro. Suspension, brakes, steering, tyres etc all great. Smallish oil leaks. You wouldn't know it has done 443,000 km... Regular maintenance is key I suppose! Full service history for the last 30 years, oil and filter every 5000 km etc. Overall extremely pleased for the price I paid. I could sell it tomorrow for half what I paid again. Only thing I've done is replaced the battery as it was from 2011 and couldn't hold a charge.

  4. It’s most likely air being sucked into the PS fluid system. This is usually from a cracked pick up line from the remote reservoir. Other than that I’m stuck for ideas as this sort of feeling from air in the system would cause a vibration like sensation in the steering during turning the wheel left or right. Cheers Bennie

  5. Not sure of the compatibility with the material you are looking to bond but I have had pretty remarkable success using crazy (super) glue methods below. Basically, lightly tag the pieces together and let dry. I prefer the liquid and not gel formulations. Then add a layer of fiberglass cloth and once in position, soak the cloth in more crazy glue. Build up a few layers if you have room. I used this technique on butt joints with great success. Also, if you aren't already aware, the addition of baking soda to crazy glue makes a rock hard "plastic". So, after initial tag tacking, if the space is limited, once you wet the surface of the area to be bonded, sprinkle baking soda on the area and wet the area with crazy glue so as to create a callous over the area to be bonded. There are many videos on youtube that show these techniques.

  6. I will blame the concrete for that small discrepancy

  7. Thanks Bennie, keeping her tidy is my goal. My plan is to keep her stock as much as possible. I have the original 13" wheels and center caps. Looking for rear seats, just for shows and fix the cosmetic stuff after I get her running sweet again. Most of the ones here have been off roaded, rusted out or just plain beat to hell. Nice ones are rare and expensive. Mine was driven by a lady and I doubt it has ever been off road. Cruise control still works too. John

  8. Greenbean, Here's a starting point.......... Google "2003 Forester roof rack cross bar pictures". Pages of pictures showing various OEM and aftermarket crossbars will come up, some which are named for their manufacturer. Then either contact them online, or do an eBay search to find a new or used pair. Good Luck! Gene

  9. Ok fresh a few minutes ago. Touched up the paint on wheels and haven't washed it off the tires yet.

  10. The tank is a "saddle" design, and relies on a siphon action in the return line to pull fuel from teh drivers side, over the hump, into passenger dside where the fuel pump/pickup is at. It is possible that the OP here has situation were the siphon is not picking up the drivers side fuel. Pull the fuel pump and inspect the siphon action.

  12. Just for information for you guys if you are in need of a coolant temperature sensor (the one that ECU uses). I had a hard time finding a suitable one other than the stealer original one that was priced 64€. So I did a little search and found out that the same temperature sensor is used widely in other cars too. I found out that bosch part number 0280130026 is suitable and fits our EA82. So I went to the local parts store and found this with the bosch part number: It's named as automega part number: 3013380458 and is exact match for the original one. This was priced 9,50€ so more than six time cheaper than the subaru original one. Ofcourse there was bosch one awailable pricing around 20€ but I thought that the cheaper one is fine. I even tested the sensor in 50 celcius and 20 celcius degree water and the values were 780Ω @ 50celcius and 2,2kΩ @ 20 degree so it sits nicely in manufacturerst reference numbers. The sensor itself looks lke this: So nothing that special but may be a good info if you are looking one. And by the way it has M12x1,5 metric thread in it. You can look for the bosch one in the internet thingy if you want. Its basicly the same thing as the one in my photos.
