  1. I don't think he measn the inner and outer wheel seals. He means the roller bearings some are open cages and some are "sealed" with a dust shield of rubber (RS) or a metal plate (ZZ) I personally like to get the ones with the rubber shield RS. And then I pry the side seals off of each bearing, pack the with grease, then reinstall one dust shield on each bearing. Install them with the open sides facing in towards the spacer. I fill that spacer area between the 2 bearings with about 30% with grease. Too full is no good, but you want some grease to spread when it gets hot int here. still use the factory wheels seals inner and outer but the dust shield in the bearing helps as a secondry barrier.

  4. As far as the seals go the old ones will probably get distorted when you pull them out so you may as well just change them

  5. Some of the pop top construction used the roof as a mold. Trying to make it look like there is no poptop! Here is the wood Frame for the shell and the metal frame for the car with the lift mechanism, befor install.

  6. This is a long shot for you but worth checking. On two different outback's I had a persistent abs light. Code reading said the main unit was "stuffed". or up the creek. There is a ground wire for that whole unit. I believe it originally was bolted under part of the P.S. tank. I have found this ground moved and loose and not moved but also loose. Both cases caused a main unit failure code but the fix was as simple as cleaning and tightening a ground. Take a look it won't take long.

  7. That's nuts. In a shop environment we have no time for such foolishness. The bolts get tightened, the fluids get filled, and the key gets turned. As quickly as can be accomplished. We have a near zero return rate with regards to leaks from RTV sealed components. Ultra Grey is alright. Though it pales in comparison to 1217H or 1217B. GD

  9. Sounds like you went a little backwards from the Ranger to the Forester! Welcome to the club! My wife's '99 Forester is slated to become our beater/runabout, so it will probably be getting a similar treatment to yours!
