  2. I am the proud owner of a 1984 gl wagon. I’ve had a couple other Subaru’s but in the little time I’ve had this car I’ve really fell in love with it. I received a notebook with the car that is a ledger of every service the car has had until 2012. I suspect that’s when the original owner sold it. My plans were to lift the car and do some light wheeling. Its has rust but still was in great condition. I say “was” because I’ve had the car ten days now. About a week after purchasing it I had parked it at my job, I recently started working for an auto body shop, a car rolled down the driveway across the street and smashed into the drivers side of my Subaru. So now I am I search of a door and some other things. Luckily can fix it at my work but I need to source parts.

  3. That depends on the auto. Manuals suffer from clutch replacements, fluid changes, rear input shaft bearing failures, and center diff failures. Really the 4EAT is a better trans. Lower maintenance cost, and smarter with a computer to assist traction. GD

  4. If someone tries to lowball you, mention that 96 is arguably the best naturally aspirated ej22 made. The only one that is non interference with the adjustable lifters. And obd2. The only other obd2 is the 95 and that one has the hydraulic lash adjusters, which i prefer. But some people are weird and like a subaru that dosen't tick when cold haha! I pumped the hlas back up and she finally started ticking 10,000 miles later lol Good luck on the sale. Try here before the CL dirtbags

  5. @anothertucker Obd 2 then? I have one of each (obd1 and 2) at the moment. I understand obd1 is better if you plan on adding boost later. I think most of the money for the harness trimming is for shipping that monstosity pre trimming Some pics of my work. She purrs! Let's work something out. I got you for cheaper. I'll send you a cut harness and you can horse around with yours for a spare. Then if you have your brat a million miles from civilization (old school subaus natural habitat) and she suddenly stops getting fuel (a new school subaru behavior ) at least you can check the circuit and relay before you start smacking the fuel pump and praying (bmw driver style) and before grabbing your 10 mm to install your spare pump! I did my 86 gl ej22 swap 3 years ago, best thing i ever did (for one of these turds) And your math checks out, ej22 is greater than ea81 lol

  7. 96 is exempt from the readiness monitors and will pass even if it says not ready which will fail later models. You got a good inspector who knew that. Cars like this can vary quite a bit based on local market dynamics. I’d say $1,500 roughy. If you wait long enough you can probably get $2k for it. If you want a quick sale probably closer to $1k.
