  1. Wouldn't hurt to check the engine ground wires. Does the fuel pump run for 2 seconds? Try diagnostic mode with the green connectors plugged together, it should cycle on and off with the key in the run position. Check the 2 multi pin engine harness connectors?

  2. What year was the engine originally from? I might be able to rip a VIN from a car advert that can be used to reference part numbers. Cheers Bennie

  3. I had one catch fire on me. Customer dropped it off overnight with a charging complaint. I go out to check it - sure enough it's stone dead. Grab my jump pack with the intention of a test run and probably drive it around to one of the bays. Starts up, and immediately sparks start shooting out of the back of the alt and something inside is glowing red hot. I hurry around and turn off the key. When the fan on the alt stops, I get about a 12" flame leaping out of the thing. I about $hit my pants of course..... I did manage to (barely) blow out the fire and was left with a smoking, melted alternator. I've run a lot of safety meetings and been party to many more. Never has anyone mentioned the need for a fire extinguisher when performing a jump and basic charge test. But yeah - I would have to say there is cause. GD

  5. Hi, Is this your trans ID ??- usually on the bellhousing / back of engine: TR580KHDBA Or posted on the door jam or (used to be) by the driver's strut tower under the hood. Found it on ebay, and search online only shows 2013 interchange on a Subaru parts website: https://parts.subaru.com/p/Subaru_2013_Outback-Limited/AUTOMATIC-TRANSMISSION-ASSEMBLY-TR580KHDBA/49239603/31000AJ140.html Subaru Outback 2.5L CVT Base 2013 Subaru Outback 2.5L CVT Limited 2013 Subaru Outback 2.5L CVT Limited w/EyeSight 2013 Subaru Outback 2.5L CVT Plus 2013 Subaru Outback 2.5L CVT Premium 2013 Subaru Outback 2.5L CVT Premium w/EyeSight 2013 Doesn't mean it won't work from something older/newer, but you'd want to dig a little deeper. I'd be more cautious about something this (relatively) new and its interchange options. Used seem to be going for $2500. check out car-part.com for other used as well. Saw some there w/less than 100K on your side of the US.

  6. Or spray a couple second shot of carb cleaner in the throat. If it runs for a second or 2, you know it has spark and timing.

  8. Check the choke and float levels. Having to hold it floored is a sign it might have flooded.

  9. from reading/participating at subaruoutback.org, I'd say 2016+ are the years you want to look at.
