  1. Don't. You'll just look like a tool in a lowered 96 Outback. GD

  3. Took forever for the 750 footpack and Legacy Sedan-specific 1062 clip and rubber foot kit to arrive. Its a cool system - all the right shape moldings, and installed properly it just clears the glass by a hair when closing doors! This is all discontinued new stock gear. I now need to find the bars in cheap good used condition. I’m having fun sourcing all these old-stock period accessories! Little things... Not many if these kits left now:

  4. What else is there to say except that you're absolutely killing it. Well done. How did remaking the rear arches go? Do you cut and use the originals as templates? Does it take hours or days per arch? I guess you cut out a sizable chunk to get all of the rust that you can't visibly see that gets down into all the folds and inaccessible areas where two or more sheets come together?

  6. el_freddo -Thanks for the friendly support. And may you never have that "extra bolt" lying about after you've painstakingly and meticulously reassembled everything!

  7. First gen only. And I’m pretty sure I have one. Lately I’ve got a lot going on that has kept me from storage , but this coming week things open up. I’ll check later in the coming week.

  8. Well that is one thing out of the way. Years ago the alternator had a broken brush in it and going up hill it would slow down then surge and repeat, then run fine. Never did it on a flat road. My volt meter showed 14-12-14-12 volts and I found the broken brush. First I'd ever seen a broken brush.

  9. I don't know if you'll have the following problems where you live, but I did here. The Neutral Safety Switch (on the tranny) gave me problems. I had to replace it on the 95 because it was sending incorrect signals to the Transmission Control Module and the torque converter would not go into lockup. On both the 95 and 97, the voltage was not going through it to operate the starter solenoid. So I added a push button on the dash to bypass the ignition switch and the neutral safety switch. I had to change one transmission because reverse quit. Here is why I said they will take a beating. Both cars are Right Hand Drive Legacy Wagons. My wife has almost 700 mailboxes on her route. When she has a package she must turn the engine off and lock the doors when she gets out. It gets started and shifted more than a 100 times every day. I've only had to replace 1 starter. The 95 has over 467,000 miles on it. Lucas makes great products. If you have time, check out this article. Then go to Products. Their (GM) Shudder fix is amazing. I've seen it work every time. https://www.lubegard.com/technology/ Excerpt from the page: In 1972, the Endangered Species Act outlawed the killing of whales and the use of materials derived from those animals. Automatic transmission failures went from less than a million units in 1972 to over eight million units a year by 1975, due to the loss of sperm whale oil additives.

  10. Just a few of the parts back from the machine shop and that big 18GXT-R. 100mm JE's, STi rods - resized with ARP-2000 bolts, Nitrided STi crank.... etc. There's a whole stack of other parts nearby. GD

  12. Hi All... Glad I found this forum...I'm new to Subaru's but just picked up this 96 Legacy L 5 speed with 86,000miles on the clock. My new daily driver.... So far so good....I'm planning a mild 1.5"-2" lift and was hoping to run the General Grabber AT2's 27x8.5x14" for some offroad use. Any pics out there of a Legacy running a similar setup? Also curious if the AT2's would fit without a subtle lift? Hoping to get quite a few miles out of this wagon! Thanks for the help!
