  1. No - your mechanics and choices are money pits. I’m not going to line item analyze that history but there’s clearly poor shops and decisions being made. Change your mechanic, personal involvement or get a car with a factory warranty will mitigate poor mechanics.

  2. SPFI or carby fed EA82? Carby has a little vacuum diaphragm that pulls on the throttle to increase revs. I’m not familiar enough with SPFI to tell you what does the idle up. MPFI uses a little solenoid on the side of the throttle body, but I think this only applies for the turbo EA82 and NA XT4 models in the USDM. We got the NA MPFI as an option in our touring wagons. 3. If you're fearful enough to ask the question then you probably need the converter. But the reality is whatever the law says, it's benign. That's like saying "isn't it illegal to drive 1 mph over the speed limit?" What is law and what happens in practice are two different realities. In practice they are replaced and removed *all* *the* *time*. I guarantee I drove past dozens of cars/trucks today with "illegal" exhausts.

  4. HF engine...now THAT is funny! I have some 20% off and other coupons if you need. At least then you'd get a free flashlight with purchase at HF to use to inspect the other car issues.

  5. I've got the service manual, and am capable myself, though that is a whole lot of work and expense that I would've likely never come even close to the $15,000 if I'd just bought something in the 10k not this car range. But I'm not sure I can buy another subaru because it'll have a bad head gasket and the muffler will fall off and the suspension will be shot and who knows what else can go wrong with a subaru. Yes, I'm salty about this car. But the question then becomes: do I get an import engine with 30k mi for $2,500 or a junkyard motor in unknown condition for $250 or should I just bolt a predator engine up from HF

  6. Sure hope that fixes it. Wait and see. If it acts up again here is one more thing to check. Voltage on fuse 11 or 14 with Key ON and when cranking. That is the voltage out of the IGN SW when ON and Cranking.

  7. It doesn't. It's not a feedback carb so it never had an O2 so there's nowhere to connect it. Just put a plug in the hole - buy a bung w/plug and just use the plug to seal it off. GD

  8. Dwayne, Thank you for the update with the link, part number and for responding! That is the part I was looking for. I'm book marking the site for future reference. I feel good about the two parts I made, they were a huge improvement over what was installed and the nut stayed on the spindle, but I'm going to get two of them.
