Hello Everyone! I'm pretty new here. Just bought an 89 GL in Idaho last year and it has quickly clawed it's way up the list of favorite vehicles. It's a 5 speed manual 4wd version and I love it. It's previous owner wasn't willing to put much into it, but with a little work it's turning into quite the strong runner. Thus far I've done head gaskets on it, valve cover gaskets, New thermostat, replaced the radiator, and the hoses, new windshield, and some rust repair around the windshield, as well as replaced the flooring on the interior with a heavy duty vinyl (Which was far too thick, Next time, I'm going to look for a much more flexible option.). Up next are the brakes! They started squealing today and one of the rotors is warped, so I figured I might as well redo all 4 corners. I also have some significant rust repair to do on the rear quarters. But all in all, it's coming along quite nicely!

check and clean the harness grounds, and if you un clipped and re attached all the clips behind the fuse panel im sure most of the electronics would start working again as intended, as mine did during my ecu install... half my accessories didn't work prior to me reseating all the clips, now they all work

Love these pre-facelift third-gens. Has the early dash-gauge-bezel without the sun-shade that you normally see on '86 + Leones... and the triangle-less, door-skin-mounted side-view-mirrors, perfect for making the wind whistle... Had an '85 USDM wagon myself before... many of the same early body features... Did they use the Orange Coolant?... or just never serviced... The cooling fan wired to the toggle switch is par for the course, half my rides are set up that way... although it is nice when they work the way they're designed. Enjoy the Sedan, looks like an awesome ride.

I'm not quite that good, but thanks. When I have time I will look into the rear hatch/battery drain thing. The easiest thing so far, is the lock trick. Right now, for some reason, I am real busy with computers for business and police.

All "switches" are gone. Don't worry though, the rear gate has now become the battery killer switch. Posted HERE Campers and tailgaters have discovered that system readiness of the hatch motor quickly drains the battery, especially troublesome if you are camping in remote areas. https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/tailgate-open-battery-drain.517663/ There are various solutions using a caribiner to trick the lock mechanism. Seems like there should be a software upgrade but according to the Grand Wizard of Volt (member Rampage) the circuitry is fairly complicated.

Redback Brumby went on a little road trip from Bendigo to Wandiligong Pub via Tooborac, Seymour, Yea, Mansfield, Whitfield, Myrtleford, Porpunkah, and Bright. Wandi Pub - the sticker that came with my bullbar I got for it a number of years ago was the reason for the trip! The return trip was more of a bee-line home to save on time. It was a boring run but still a good end to the day. These are one of a series of “silo art” that are part of a circuit you can do to see them all. This one is at Colbinabbin: Good day had. In the 682ish km we covered we only came across one real dickhead on the road. One too many but good compared to what we could’ve come across considering it’s a long weekend. The brumby did 7.8L/100km for one section - this included a flogging through the hills with a load of twisties involved. I’m yet to work out overall fuel economy. She’s no sports car, but she does alright Cheers Bennie
