  1. Exhaust should be essentially the same from 00 to 04. EGR has nothing to do with the exhaust system itself since the EGR draws from the cylinder head not the manifold. GD
  2. since you have intake off, make sure you check that metal pipe that runs to heater hose over REAL well... sits on drivers side... make sure there is zero rust anywhere on it... if there is rust, i would recommend replacing now vs having to take it all apart again later my 02 had a leak due to rust right where the smaller tube joined that goes to the throttle body
  3. Everyone was pretty much spot on … my brother took the car to local a Subie shop and they fixed the car in the parking lot while he waited. Thanks for the quick responses and expert info as always!
  4. Key is likely shot. Or like Larry mentioned. Ours did the same thing with the covers. Scrap the mechanic. Keep the car.
