How wore out is the key? See if you can get a new one cut from the dealer, as getting one cut on a machine will just copy the wore out key. Theres a bar on top of the tumbler that locks the steering wheel. The key is what makes this bar drop into the tumbler so you can turn the wheel, but if the key is worn it doesnt drop down far enough.1 point

I agree with silerhelm and DaveT. Shot hub spline, shot CV joint or not properly engaged in 2wd mode. All are easy to investigate and relatively cheap to fix too, unless your 2wd setting within the gearbox is shot, but you’d have metal chunks in the gearbox oil if this were the case - and it would be the last thing I’d check if you don’t find any other issues that resolve the problem. Jack the front end so the tires are off the ground, then try and unlock it. Had this issue with my wifes 05 OB. When you park, make sure the wheels are straight with no tension on the rack1 point

awesome. i would say turn it back and forth lock to lock like 20 times to help bleed it, but yeah you eventually got it all worked out.1 point

What was the reason for replacing the clutch originally? What you are describing sounds like a stripped front hub. The clutch will work the same 2 or 4wd. One other possibility is are you actually getting it into 2wd or are you hitting the neutral spot because of misadjustment or binding of the linkage?1 point

Yeah mate that sucks. At least you got a ride before the lockdown. Looks like regional Vic is staring down the barrel of an impending lockdown. Shepparton went from one case this morning to 17 by this evening! Definite grounds for lockdown! Great to see your L getting out though.
