  1. Those intake manifolds have a coolant passage and weak gasket area - they can dump coolant right into the block and look like catastrophic internal coolant issues. If that's the case you just need new intake manifold gaskets. Or new headgaskets. What does "leaking from the block" mean? Diagnose it and you have options to repair. Right now you're just guessing.

  3. Lot's of nice Rust Free ones out in Colorado. Happy to pick one up for you. Would even consider making the drive back. From Okauchee, WI back in the day. Family still in WI.

  4. Quick trip to the junk yard or Subaru Dealer for a quick look. Not as nice a in your driveway but it's an option.

  5. sitting in a storage unit for 20 years can mean corrosion can rot your head gasket - it happened to me over 3 years, as I had not drained all coolant out. I do know of another that got a decent service prior to storing for 20 years. Went like a dream once running. Watch for rotten throttle body coolant port pipes, turbo coolant pipe from head to turbo, and its front and rear banjo's. Welch freeze plugs also go in the manifold. Spend more time than EJ admirers deem logical and you should have a lot of fun. The freeze plugs in head may have gone rather than HG anyway. The inlet manifolds have 12 and maybe 14 mm freeze plugs that rot to nothing also

  6. The tank itself is not bad.. but the straps are a mess. new straps were not that much, but getting the old ones out could be interesting.. my concern is with the rear diff i guess - i know that bearings can make noise for a long time before failing completely, and it has been growling for about a year and half now, maybe a little longer.. and i would definitely go with a used one if we attempt to fix it.. still not sure about it at this point. also looking at possibly picking up another cheap (under $4k) car for the time being.. looking at an 04 Forester at the moment, 180K & a 5 spd for $2500 - waiting for a call back on that. Larry... be careful what you offer, LOL, we just might take you up on it! =P poked around on Denver craigslist a little... hmmm...

  7. No , I had to stop in for a genuine over the counter , old fashioned transaction like buying a sandwich. I was rushing around and knew I’d be getting screwed a little on the price but threw in the towel. Just some bits. My online orders were significant, and I received their healthy discount whatever it is. I don’t have an actual number but it’s like John or Anthony were taking care of me. And yes KYB is really the way to go. You won’t like what the cheap top mounts look like after like 6 mos. Learned the hard way. Spend wisely my friend ! Ciao

  8. Where from the block is it leaking coolant? How do you know you've overheated it? Because of the leak, or did the temp gauge go too high and for too long? Find the source first then determine diagnosis or repair. It could be a hose clamp or the head. Good luck getting it back on the road.

  9. I'd move on. You know more will be rusted then fuel tank. Get a rust free one from out west/south. If it still runs and drives then sell it - sadly our areas are accustomed to rust and someone will likely pay for a running and driving A to B vehicle. You already know those diffs are a dime a dozen - swap a used one in if you somehow navigate that rusty tank/straps. You could probably find some other steel straps to fish up through there to hold it.

  10. honestly, would not put Monroes on a Subaru.. they are soft, almost mushy feeling KYB struts/shocks, and either OEM or KYB top mounts. takes a shop all of 5 minutes to squash the spring, pop the nut off the top, swap out parts, and reassemble one. We had the shop local to us do the other half's fronts for us.. in and out in about 15 minutes.
