My thought was contemporary gasoline and accelerator pump seals not liking each other. Seen the rubber boot erode faster than I think the tank of fuel was used up. And that was after using one from a carb. kit. I guess if it were my cake to bake I’d break it down and soak the body and float chamber. Blow out the jets and passages. Double check that float and the needle. Not sure how much experience you have on these but you may have to remove the float chamber top a few times to get the adjustment correct. Lots of voodoo and witchcraft too. Good luck. Post back with results.
