I lived all over that area. I lived in Elizabeth, Irvington, Union, South Orange, Livingston, Marcella, Boonton, Dover, and Rockaway. Over the course of 32 years. Lots of people knock NJ, but very few really know much about it. Twenty years of rally in that area and you get to see the best of the state.

Someone resurrected a three year old thread on key blanks recently and I found the following link in it: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showpost.php?p=58841&postcount=8 Odd, I went searching for the thread today and couldn't find the thread so I'm starting my own. However, I digress, sorry. The key blanks mentioned in the link are still available from the dealer if you can persuade them to order it for you. (Jason at the Auburn, WA dealership is ordering a set for me 1-866-528-5282). The reason I bring this up is that key blanks from any locksmith result in the DA25 Nissan version. That works fine in my '91 Legacy, '97 Impreza, and even my '84 Brat! The dealer won't cut the keys for me, but I'll take the key blanks to my friendly neighborhood locksmith and I'll be set. Cool keys for all three of my cars! Nice stocking stuffers for your better half too.

Adio's to all my friends at USMB

Well on the days you're down, give us a call. On the days you're up, come visit and share the time with us. -
No. 2WD box is one piece and 4WD box is in two halves. 2WD box interferes with the 4WD linkage and you have trouble shifting gears. Odd, my neighbor just had that problem tonight. We spent about an hour trying to make the 2WD console work and finally gave up. I guess it could be done but we ran out of daylight and packed it in.

Sure, we can forget about it. Don't feel foolish, just come back. We won't even charge you a re-instatement fee! A pleasure, guy, we were all missing you already and it's nice to have you back. -
I use a torque wrench every time all. IN ADDITION, I re-torque them again 300 to 500 miles later. Having had a wheel come off years ago, I learned from my error.

OEM Legacy Key
edrach replied to Durania's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Key blanks for all the older Subarus (including EA81) are still available from a good locksmith. Sadly, they all say Nissan! But if it's a choice between a new key and an old worn one, I know which I'd go for. Most dealers can get you the key code from the VIN# if they no longer cut the keys themselves. I had a new one cut by my favorite parts guy in Auburn, WA recently from the VIN# for our '91 Legacy wagon. Local hardware store then cut me some spares using a DA25 key blank. Doesn't say Subaru, but doesn't say Nissan either. -

Clutch problems in Gen 2 Brat
edrach replied to Bratbros's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Check with your local independent Subaru shop and ask them what machine shop they use for flywheels; they should know. -
Actually most of the early Imprezas were automatics; it was rare to find a 5MT; lastly, I was only speaking of the AWD version.

A secret about the early EJ18's: With 15" tires (or larger) they are "stones"; so slow you might regret having bought it. Put 14" tires on it and it's a night and day difference in pickup. I got that info out of Subiesport (early issue when they were building a project EJ18 rally car). It certainly worked for me! Also, it helped when you find one with a 4.111 rear as opposed to a 3.900
-
EJ series much easier to work on for many repairs. One timing belt instead of two; front axle replacement much easier; engine removal easier. I'll second GD's comments on handling and power. I loved my '94 Impreza 4 door; the EJ18 engine just loved to rev and it was a joy to drive. I've had manual transmissions all my life and prefer them so I can't address the comments favoring the automatic.

SOS (stupid old sucker) axle help
edrach replied to daeron's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm with the 180 degree out camp. I've done my share of these and occasionally with have it 1/2 rotation out. You can still sight through the hole, but if you look closely enough it's only half a hole! Bailing wire works, a nail, the right size machince screw will work......leaving it out will work UNTIL the first time you stretch the suspension and then the DOJ will fall off the stub axle on the transmission. Very embarassing. -
I forgot to mention a Peugeot with one 14" steelie left on the front right of the car. Located in the most southern row.

Lynnwood, WA A '94 Impreza wagon, automatic, with a smashed in front end and 180K on the odometer is in the yard. Transmission still there and motor is gone. Still some salvageable body parts and interior pieces. Someone really tore apart the dash. Smokey Point, WA Apparently open. Somewhere off exit 206 of I-5.

Lynnwood, WA. Nice looking '85 2WD Hatch (white with blue trim) with 130K on the odometer showed up recently. Good body pieces, good bumpers front and rear, engine is mostly intact along with 5 speed transmission. A couple of EA82's also in the yard. Smokey Point, WA Apparently open. Somewhere off exit 206 of I-5.

Well, Seattle doesn't often get snow; mostly rain. But the mountains are within an hour's drive. Remember, some of these pics were taken at 4000 and 5000 feet above sea level. When we started out at McD's it was raining; ten miles later (and 1000 feet higher), it turned to snow. Plus this is my 6th year of doing this, and this is the most snow I've seen; usually it's not quite this deep until we get much higher than we could go this year.

Patience guys. I got home at 7pm, had to warm up and have some supper. Here's the few shots I took today. Parking lot at McDonald's in Enumclaw. View from my Impreza with Jrach driving. Still about 10 miles from the turn into the forest. View out my side window; still 8 miles for so from entering the forest. Finally entering the forest; waiting for traffic to clear. A portion of the staging area. A place to play in the snow or prepare to go out and fetch a tree. View from the road where we stopped to pick up a few trees. Jrach on the side of the hill cutting down the first of two trees. Hard to tell but he's up the side of the hill about 100 feet. This shot taken with my telephoto on 40X. Ratty2Austin and his mini snowboard. Austin generates his own heat; note the cooler person to his right. Most of the group who were present today.
