  1. Check the vin# first; they will tell you which ratio is right. If I remember correctly, the 97 OBS uses a 3.900.
  2. Check the number on your transmission; it'll be on the bell housing near the starter; something like TY-752VXCA. You can also find the number on the VIN# plate on the driver's side fender inside the engine compartment. Then check the transmission chart found in the USRM and it'll tell you whether you have a 4.11 or 3.90 if you have a manual transmission. You do have a manual and not an automatic??? http://www.northursalia.com/techdocs/trannychart/trannychart.pdf
  3. Check the northursalia transmission post in the USRM as noted in the previous post to make sure you get a rear diff with the right ratio. My first choice would be a junkyard diff. My second choice (only for the money difference) would be to call CCRinc. I don't think they would steer you wrong. Good luck; I hope to make it to the third 100K service.
  4. Finally got a chance to look at mine and here's what I found. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=81097
  5. I've long suspected there was a leak somewhere, but haven't located it with our dry summer. But now that the rainly season is here, I've found where it's leaking in. But short of taking apart (looks like I have to remove the blower and whatever plastic is around it) I haven't a clue. I suspect a leak around the window seal but I want to be sure before I go through that expense. Is it more possible for access by removing the plastic piece that runs along the top of the firewall? Here's a picture of the leak (and it's not even raining right now).
  6. Good input. I have the same problem with our Impreza now that the rainy season has started again. Luckily passenger side only.
  7. Event has been cancelled for 10/20; hopefully to be re-scheduled on another date to be announced. Field is reportedly under 6 inches of water.
  8. Because I was too focussed to read past the October date on the schedule. Sorry, my bad!
  9. Great pics, porcupine. You should post them up on the USRM to supplement the info on axle replacement there. My pics aren't nearly as good or as clear as yours.
  10. Check the USRM, the EJ write-up applies to your OBW. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=75785
  11. That being said, I'm willing to bet you a case of beer that the course will be muddy.
  12. I only do it to generate interest. However, as we found out, the forecasts may not be accurate for the specific site. A rain gauge within 8 miles of the ORG rallycross site recorded two inches of rain in the 10 days prior to the event. In the same time period, the gauge at the airport across from the field registered .01 inches!

  19. Too bad that you missed out on it, but there's a chart in the USRM on transmission types for the EJ cars. Many different gearsets and final drive ratios, but if you have the correct matching front and rear diff ratios, most of the gearboxes interchange. I wound up putting a '95 Legacy sedan gearbox and diff into my '97 Impreza L wagon. Works just fine.

  21. This is a great event to work and watch. A short ride from Portland and a bit longer from the Seattle area. But it's worth it. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1357686
