  1. Might be some more information here: PRG Membership Package available at this event! Includes discounted entry fees! Inquire at the registration tent for more information. Schedule: - Tech Inspection: 8am-9am - Registration: 8:15am-9am - Driver's Meeting: 9:15am - First Car Out: 9:30am Cost: $25 for PRG Members, $30 for non-members (both include admission to the ORV park) After tech inspection, please go to registration to obtain your timecard. There is only one session scheduled for this event. Worker positions will be assigned at the driver's meeting and the entire group will be split into run/work groups at that time. After the parade lap, those working first will go to their worker assignments. Those running first will put their cars into the grid to prepare for their first run. Helmets are required (Snell 95 and newer rating). Loaner helmets will be available at the event but in limited supply. If you're unsure about what class your car will run in, please read the RallyCross rules. Spectators: The ORV park charges $10 per car for anyone entering the park. If you're interested in spectating, try to carpool to minimize costs. If you know someone competing, ride along with them. There is a concession stand on-site, so please bring cash for lunch.   3. Actually, I'm the fortunate recipient of good genes. My Dad died at 84, having been a 3 pack/day smoker until his first heart attack at 65 when he quit "cold turkey." My Mom died just before her 95th birthday. Attitude and good health is everything. My attitude was helped along with getting married later than most and then waiting even longer to start raising kids. My first son was born when I was 35; nothing like being 45 when the parents of my son's friends were in their late 20's, early 30's. Shapes an outlook that doesn't go away. But nothing like the adrenalin rush when you get it all right on the rallycross course to help keep your outlook fresh. I'm actually counting the days to the next event this coming Saturday.....just like Christmas!
  4. The gas mileage on my '94 was great. Fully loaded with rally tires, wheels, tools, etc. and "cruisin" up I-5 I got as much as 30 to 32 mpg with the car. Of course when you calculated back from the ~10% odometer error it didn't look quite as good, but it was still okay.

  6. Thanks to all of you. Just remember, there's a reason we're called old farts. Actually, I think I was around 55, when I finally agreed that I might be considered "middle-aged." Went out this past Sunday and played about three hours of Ping-pong with the "seniors" at the Senior Center. It's great exercise and still a lot of fun. Since there are more players than tables (three tables), we play doubles and are very casual about who we choose to partner with. I wound up partners with someone I hadn't seen before and he was pretty good. We whupped up on two of the better players in the group. After we finished our set (took 3 out of 3), I introduced myself and we got to chatting. Turns out my partner was 80! I guess there's hope for me yet!

  8. Great comparison daehttub2000; about as good as it gets. I just have a slight dis-agreement about the 1.8 engine in the Impreza being a "snoozer." Certainly not untrue when compared to the WRX and the 2.2 and 2.5 engines. However, the 1.8L is a runner. You'll need to keep the revs up to get the some pickup, but that engine (in my '94 rallycross car) was a runner. It reved so freely, I kept bouncing off the rev limiter. One difference in its performance was switching to 14" wheels and tires. When I first bought it, it was a stone with the 15" tires and I regretted buying it as my rallycross car. After reading an article about building a rally car from scratch in Subiesport magazine, they mentioned that putting 14" tires on their early Impreza changed the character of the car for the better. I went to 14" tires and the car did change from a "stone" to a "runner." Certainly not to be compared to an RS or WRX but lots of fun to drive. So the secret is out, if you want a stealth car that others don't want to steal for a joyride or for the parts, find an early Impreza (with a 5 speed of course), put 14" wheels on it (cheaper than 15" or 16" wheels) and have a ball. The best "bang for the buck" that you can get from Subaru. And, not exactly "cop-bait" either.

  10. With the interior out you would be classed in Modified. Anyhow, the use of the rolling guest room is still available if you want to make it down to the event; both coming and going if you need it.
  11. Correct on all counts except for the brakes. Legacy came with disks front and rear, Impreza (at least up to and including '97 model year) came with front disks and rear drums. It's my understanding that the rear disks from a Legacy can be retrofitted to the Impreza although I've never done that. Another difference is that the starter motors are not interchangeable between the Legacy and Impreza. P/N23300AA381 for Impreza with manual transmission and P/N23300AA220 for the Legacy with manual transmission. Note that the starter for the automatic transmission is different on the Legacy; I suspect the same is true for the Impreza. I have it on good authority that the EJ22 manual transmission starter for the Legacy is the same for all years from 1990 to 2004. Just checking my stuff for accuracy and I found this on www.1stsubaruparts.com: Part number 23300AA220 was superceded by part number 23300AA220R1

Great chance to have fun and scope out location for WCSS9. http://www.pacificrallygroup.com/rci042807.html Sadly I got this from PRG today: I got a phone call today from Kim and Steve M. saying that the field at the ORV park is unusable due to the truck event over the weekend. There are logs and rocks all over the lower field plus a large amount of mud on the lower portion. It doesn't look like the field will be in any condition to hold a rally-x by Saturday We apologize for any inconvenience this causes anyone. Cheers, Erik Lyden
  14. I've had a '91 Legacy for the last 5 years as my DD. Great solid, reliable car. We bought a '97 Impreza last year for my wife to drive regularly. For economic reasons it became my rallycross car also (replaced my '94 Impreza 4 door). Impreza is also reliable but seems so much more fun to drive. Both are wagons and the Legacy definitely has more cargo space. If you don't need the room, the Impreza is certainly more fun. If you care, note that all EJ22's from 1977 model year and newer are interference engines.

I'm posting this for someone who's had trouble registering and can't post this for himself: You know the FWD switch up front near the ABS, the one where you put a fuse into the block and it shuts off the AWD? I was asking XXXXX* about this too, and we are both wondering: would it do any damage to use that block to run the car in FWD most of the year, and then switch it to AWD in bad weather? We are guessing that doing so would save gas. How much, we don't know. But what we also don't know is whether using the bypass circuit in the AWD clutch would do any damage. Or, if there would be any other unanticipated effects, such as tire wear. If this would work, it might save (I would guess) perhaps as much as 10% fuel. Can you help me research this on the website? Surely someone has played with this before, and I would sure like to know the effects before ever trying it. Interesting question. *Name X'd out to protect the innocent.

  18. Dealership has changed owners but I'm not sure of the website. However, I've always purchased from Jason in Parts and still continue to get the same first class service and internet prices. I never liked the website since it was too onerous to use conveniently so I started calling direct. 1-866-528-5282 is a toll free number and just ask for Jason in Parts.
  19. I don't qualify for most shows; I started with WCSS3 and have been lucky enough not to miss any since then.
  20. A few years back I drove to Albuquerque and back via Sedona, AZ in our '86 Loyale wagon. The car had around 200K on the engine and drivetrain. We drove over 3500 miles round-trip in pretty hot weather without a problem at any time. I would do it again in our '91 Legacy with 188K without a second thought.
  21. There's a subaru only yard on Vancouver Island (something like Saltair). A bit pricey but he has a good inventory of parts. I'm sure one of the locals will post more information.
