Next PRG rallycross info: 9/24 at ORV park
edrach replied to edrach's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Didn't need rain on this course; felt like the surface was all marbles and required attention to where your car was going. In some respects worse than slick mud. -

I had to opt for staying local this weekend. But please post again if another double rallycross in the future. -
Try this to see how the tire change will affect your car's performance: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Just make sure you don't get stuck with the 390 metric rims. Good luck with it.

GL-10 Blower Switch 1 not working

Right, complete open circuit puts full voltage to the blower. -

Only way they would find their way that far north would be for someone to ask me to ship them up!! That's not too likely. -
I'll second the gas mileage difference with the 1.8; my wife gets a full 5 mpg lower mileage with her '97 Impreza (EJ22) than I get with the '94 (EJ18). I easily get 30+ on the highway with mine; never seen close to that with hers. Also, you might find the purchase price of the 1.8 is lower since it is "less desirable."

I believe these wheels were an option in '94; experts can correct me on this. -

Richie, I'm not unhappy but would like to catch the SOB who took them. I wonder if the local scrap dealers would watch for them since they are quite rare. -
GL-10 Blower Switch 1 not working
edrach replied to beataru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It's the resistor block. In all the cars I've found with this problem, it has never been the switch. -

EA81 and EA82 both use the same resistor block if I remember correctly. Some of them are difficult to replace if there is a leak in the windshield gasket allowing water to run down into the blower area; this causes the screws to rust in place and yes, that makes it a PITA to repair. -

Lots of ways to do this, if you do a search on the resistor block you mind find a lot of info. I remember posting the resistance values for each leg. Nichrome resistance wire will work and you can wind your own. Other approaches work but remember that the wattage is quite high (over 50 watts if I remember correctly--that's why they are mounted in the path of the blower air stream for dissipation of the heat generated) and 2 watt resistors from radio shack will go up in smoke pretty quick. -
GL-10 Blower Switch 1 not working
edrach replied to beataru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Pretty straight forward; once you locate the part, it's less than 5 minutes to remove it and re-install it. I hate to disagree with GD but here in Washington, the failure rate on used ones is pretty high. I used to scrounge Pull a Part for these and found 9 out of 10 were bad....but then again, you're looking at parts found in 20 year old cars or more. If you find a '90's Loyale you might have better success finding a good one. Good luck. -
Fresh off a successful RallyCross at the Straddleline ORV Park, Pacific Rally Group is putting on another event on Sunday, September 24th, 2006. This event will run on the same schedule as the last RallyCross (see below). We had a good turnout for the last event and we would like to improve on that for this event. Please pass this along to anyone that you think would be interested in competing. I hope to have a flier by friday evening for anyone to print and distribute to any groups that you think will be interested. This will be posted to www.PacificRallyGroup.com when ready. Schedule: Tech Inspection and Registration: 8am-9am Driver's Meeting: 9:15am First Car Out: 9:30am Cost: $30 for all entrants (includes admission to the ORV park) After tech inspection, please go to registration to obtain your timecard. There is only one session scheduled for this event. Worker positions will be assigned at the driver's meeting and the entire group will be split into run/work groups at that time. After the parade lap, those working first will go to their worker assignments. Those running first will put their cars into the grid to prepare for their first run. An alternate format may be used depending on turnout. Helmets are required (Snell 95 and newer rating). Loaner helmets will be available at the event but in limited supply. If you're unsure about what class your car will run in, please read this: http://scca.org/_FileLibrary/File/20...CrossRules.pdf Spectators: The ORV park charges $10 per car for anyone entering the park. If you're interested in spectating, try to carpool to minimize costs. If you knowsomeone competing, ride along with them. There is a concession stand on-site so please bring cash for lunch. Links: Directions to ORV park Pacific Rally Group website 2006 SCCA RallyCross rules (PDF) Please pass along this information to anyone else that you think would be interested in rally-x in the western WA area. Replace the resistor block that controls the speed of the blower. Easy fix, pricey part. -
Rallycross/Rally information from ORG
edrach replied to edrach's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Whoopee! Posted before I got home from Hillsboro last night! Way to go. Turnout was a bit low for ORG so that resulted in 5 runs each and a fair amount of fun runs. Great course with "restrained" use of the water truck. Good organization and ran on schedule all day. If you weren't there you missed a fine event. -
OBDII didn't happen until '96. That being what it is, the EJ18 is not gutless. I have a '94 sedan that I use entirely for rallycross and backup car for when my daily driver is not available. The car originally came with low profile 16" tires and it was a stone....just what I wanted in a rallycross car! Anyway, when I switched back to 14" wheels and tires the car suddenly had lots of go. Night and day difference with only slightly smaller tires. In my rallycross class I run against 2.2's and 2.5's all the time and I beat most of them. I have a 2.2 engine I was planning on rebuilding and installing this winter, but am really ambivalent since the EJ18 is so strong. I notice the difference in low end torque, but once you're in the power band the car really goes. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=856

Apparently a final, firm date for Wild West; also it is now a National rather than Divisional event. Check out the latest news release at the Rally America site: http://www.rally-america.com/story.php?article=149
