  1. I might be mis-remembering and I can't check this since I sold the shop manuals for my '86 wagon a while ago, but I believe the shaft diameter is heavier for the 2WD; don't ask me why. Spline count is only different for the turbo axles (25 as opposed to 23 on the DOJ end). Something funky about the axles for an automatic also, but I can't remember what that was. If someone has a OEM shop manual for an EA82 car, it's pretty well spelled out there.
  2. I work in and around the UW all the time and there are certainly a lot of Subaru's in the parking lots. Drop me a PM and I'll leave you my cell # and maybe we can have lunch in the area.
  3. EA81 stock: 55A max. EA82 stock: 60A max. XT6 stock: 90A max. All of them will fit your car; I believe you'll have to change the pulley on your XT6 alternator to fit the belt. Just a thought, check the current draw out of the battery with an amp meter and the ignition off. It could be that you have something else draining the battery. Will your battery hold a full charge? Lastly, it could be that you don't drive enough to put back what you took out of the battery starting and running for short periods of time.
  4. No need to be sorry; what's a little hi-jacking between friends. I'm getting my Toyota friend at work who's well into 4x-ing interested in getting out with you guys. He was literally drooling over the mudpit videos at WCSS8. Keep me informed and I'll pass it on to him.
  5. I'm beginning to wonder about the incompetence of the WA state emissions testing. My son took his '96 Impreza through today. He didn't see the guy put the rear wheels on wheel chocks and wasn't paying attention when the guy put the car in gear on the dyno. After about 30 seconds the emissions tester realized something was wrong, took the car out of gear and finished the test. Car passed, but James says the car "behaves funny." So what are the symptoms of that type of abuse? With a holiday weekend coming up he can't follow up on this until Tuesday.
  6. Be careful what you wish for, it might come true! September is going to be interesting: Rallycross schedule: With the post-phonement of WW, there's a PRG rallycross at the ORV park on Sept. 9th. Scheduled rallycross by ORG on Sept. 17th at Hillsboro, OR Rallycross by PRG at the ORV on September 24th. Rallycross School by Primitive Racing at Hillsboro including a rallycross on Sept. 22, 23, and 24 There's a double rallycross weekend at the Mt. Washington Lodge on Vancouver Island on Sept. 23 and 24th   Well, there goes my rallycross budget for the year as well as my "honey do" list is just shredded.
  7. A little early, but never too early to make plans. http://www.subiefest.com/
  8. You know, it is a West COAST Subaru Show. Next year it might be in California.
  9. Check with bratsrus1; he had custom axles made by CV axles of Ocala.
  10. Sorry all I get from this link are non automotive videos; do I need to get deeper into it to find monstaru's run?
  11. I second that (i.e. timing belt change). Since both cars are interference heads, timing belt is definitely overdue if it wasn't done recently. Also, with this mileage, water pump should be changed since it's unlikely to last until the next timing belt replacement.
  12. It was a great time; anyone else up for doing the work of getting it done for next year? Hood River is a great location and seems to work for most of us. Any Oregon folk up for continuing a great tradition?
  13. Not true, I saw a red one roll in yesterday but didn't have my camera in my hand at the time. I'll get him today.
  14. Here's the first of the Friday photos of our early arrivals: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=902
  15. Interesting, when I came down yesterday afternoon at the motel, there were about 20 people with backpacks in the front lobby trying on t-shirts. Obviously, a group of bicyclists or runners. It must have been the Hood to Coast group.
  16. I know you guys will chastise me for this but there are two wineries within 5 miles of the fairgrounds. We did the winery tour today and the Pheasant Valley Winery is fine!
  17. Prices should be available anytime, just ask. I've found it doesn't pay to haggle at most yards. Pull a Part yards are so reasonable that it doesn't really pay. Others will remember you and quote higher next time. Yards that pull the parts for you are usually more expensive than PaP yards. If you're not sure of etiquette, don't be shy, just ask.
  18. Your original VIN cut key was improperly done; get another made and make sure it works properly before making copies. Also, use some tri-flow lubricant on all your locks; sounds like they need it.
  19. Salvage titles only hurt you if you want to re-sell and make a profit. But if you want to keep it for yourself, this is a pretty good deal. A front clip from a wagon would replace what you have there if you're very handy and want to have a real project. If it becomes more than you want to deal with, you're only out your time and the $450 which is nothing compared to buying a non-salvage titled Brat with some rust issues for $1000 or more. No rust in your neck of the woods is worth a lot. If you buy it, document everything in terms of what was wrong and what was done to repair it. Salvage titles are only an excuse for insurance companies to total out a car so they don't have to deal with the actual repair costs. If you document everything and repair it properly, you might even recover the actual value of the car before the salvage title was issued.
  20. Honeydo won the auction at $7300!! I have to save this for the archives and it's time to insure my Brat for increased value.
  21. Boy, I think I will have to hold off selling my Brat for a bit and fix it up this nice. Did anyone else read the answers to the questions? He says the engine and tranny work was done by Brian, your independent Subaru guru; I wonder if that was the Brian I know when he was still in Burien? Car is now located in Louisiana. If so, I might re-install a Brian rebuilt engine. This is too cool.
  22. Those are stock alloy wheels; check the wheels section in Subarus of the '80's; I think they are vintage '83 or thereabouts.
