Maybe that's why it was on the ground......target practice!

In a way I'm glad you got it back. Keep your options open and decide whether to buy back the car or not. Sad to see it so destroyed for such minor stuff. Did the police at least try to find who stole it? There was plenty of evidence in our Impreza when it was recovered and I think our local police collected a goodly amount of it but as far as I know never caught the guy.

GD has it right. Or do a search online for www.1stsubaruparts.com; website is down, but 800# still works. Ask for Jason in parts.

Someone came along and offered his cash for all of them without going through ebay; I know it's supposed to not happen, but it likely did.

Great Smoke Clouds I becech you!!

One other thing you might check. The PCV valve; if it gets stuck open, you'll suck oil from the engine straight into the intake manifold and produce volumes of smoke. Your engine might still be lunch, but check the water inlet from the previous post and PCV first before you tear into the engine. Pull the weber and check the inside of the intake manifold; if there are gobs of oil there, it could be as simple as that. Good luck. PS: There are also other ways to suck oil into the engine; check the Air Suction Valve(s) and all the plumbing from the valve covers into the weber intake. -

I'm in and my preference is #4. -
do you see a problem with this??
edrach replied to 7point62fmj's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My son has hauled his 700 pound motorcycle in the bed of our '84 brat along with a passenger. You should be okay with the tub. -
August 16th...that's just plain ugly. I'm wishing they would keep the kids in school until the end of June and not go back until the 3rd week of Sept. or so. Our rains don't stop until early July and our "Indian" summers are just too great to keep the kids in a classroom in September.

Influenza Subaruensis; very common in the fall.

Yea, we've got the same problem. Jeanne has to start a week before school starts and this year they started school the week BEFORE Labor Day. Dumb!

Do not mix orange and green; they are not compatible. Green was the old standard and is still more than adequate. I've used orange in the past, but it has a tendency to seep out at the slightest opportunity from a loose hose clamp or faulty seal. Although I never had any trouble with orange and there are some good reasons of using it, I switched back to green after a thorough flushing of the system.

It depends how much effort or money you want to spend. When my son bought his Brat (the first Subaru in our family) over 8 years ago, I bought a set of the standard wagon wheels for it, had them glass beaded professionally, and then powder coated. They still look fine today and just need a good washing to get them back to their original condition. Normal paint or clear coating is okay, but you'll find it will chip or peel in a couple of years. As for alloy wheels, my original sentence applies also. I'm fond of the 8 spoke alloy wheels for my Brat (my son started something way back then). After spending about 4 hours polishing one wheel and getting it to look acceptable (not great, just acceptable), I took them to a metal polishing place in South Seattle. It cost me $75 per wheel, but they looked like this: If you polish a set, DO NOT clear coat them! Clear coating will chip or collect brake dust and they will look like garbage in short order. The shop which polished them suggested a quality metal polish every 3 months or so and a good application of car wax to protect the finish from oxidation. I would think that a powder coating in clear would last longer, but that's something I never tried. Good luck with your project.

They should be, I was there around 4pm today and they were in a row that looks like it's been there for a while; I was surprised to see them still on the car.

New to the Subies/Seattle

Welcome to the Board. Turbone's advice is good. I try to do as much of my own repairs if possible, but when I have to pay someone else to do it, I go to Smart Service in Shoreline. Good luck with your new purchase. http://www.smart-service.com/ -
I had a chance to stop there today while coming back from a business appointment. Nothing too special there but I did notice a Peugeot with two 14" steelies on the front. Look for it in Row A.

Radiator replacement - will another one fit?
edrach replied to stickedy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Amazing. I can buy a new radiator for your car for about $100. Shipping couldn't be that expensive even for an international shipment. -
About 180 one way. But you have 7 pull a part type yards around Vancouver/Portland from what I understand. Also, there's one just south of Olympia about 95 from Vancouver.
