  1. It looks like the Hillsboro site and August 14th date are finally official: http://www.oregonrally.com/calendar/calendar.php?op=view&id=187
  2. Well, we're back. Just in time to find the GFI in our garage had tripped this afternoon and cut the power to everything in the garage....including our freezed. I discovered the power outage when the garage door didn't work. Took me a while to find the GFI and re-set it. Luckily, the freezed was still sufficiently cold and we didn't loose any food. We had a great time and our new ('85 Toy Dolphin) RV made it just fine. Everything seems to work normally.
  3. Happy birthday Austin! I'm glad you made it home safely and without incident. Also, I have a Brat the same age as you!!!
  4. Car-toys will have them; Fry's Electronics has the cable adapters and might have the DIN adapter also.
  5. I've got an '82 Brat with the third eye as well as a spare. Blown headgasket and significant rust; first $250 takes it away.
  6. Boy Connie that sounds shady to me; not having it running is normally the kiss of death at auction time. And you don't need to pay a mechanic to install a battery! 5 minute job; I suspect he knows it won't run if he does and doesn't want to admit it. $700 is certainly a lot to ask for an unknown condition.
  7. Most likely axle related; from the sound of it, the inner joint (DOJ) is bad. Check the boots on the inner joints, if one or both are torn, that's the axle I'd replace first.
  8. I'm not trying to bust your chops, but it's highly unlikely that you got four transmissions all with the same problem. I'm with the school of thought tranny mounts or bushings or such. Go back to the beginning and don't ignore something because "it's already been eliminated/checked/changed." Last thought...if you really feel it is the tranny, buy a known good used tranny from someone on the Board and install it. If it still happens you are easily the most unlucky person in the world or you have a mechanic who doesn't know what he's doing. Good luck.
  9. I'm with oddcomp (and I'm sure lots of others who were there); thank you guys for putting it on. I'd hate to have your phonebills and hours spent away from family and work and play that went into putting on this event.
  10. No I'm still on Vancouver Island. The campground has internet...Yea I know roughing it is tough. I'll lose it tomorrow morning however since we're packing up and leaving for Duncan early in the morning and won't have internet there unless I find it in town somewhere. I'll likely not be on until we get back home on Monday. ---ed---
  11. It's not the tent that's a problem, it's sleeping on the ground....ugh.
  12. Try cable; you'll never go back to DSL. However, I'm glad you're back online.
  13. Living in an RV park just north of Ladysmith, BC for a few days and then off to the Islands Folk Festival for the weekend. As you can see the RV park does have internet.
  14. Matt, I'm so glad you arrived home without incident. Thanks for the great food and pleasant company. Best of luck with the XT6; looks like a good start.
  15. I'll be vacationing in beautiful Vancouver Island for the next week. In case of emergency, try my cell phone. If I find online availability I'll be back sooner.
  16. You might try pricing one at Spalding Auto Wrecking in Spokane, WA. They market new Modine radiators for a good price ($84 for an '84 GL wagon rad). 509-924-3300; check the internet for their 800 #.
  17. Austin, have a safe and uneventful trip back. As near as I remember some of the roads you're considering, everything out there is boring. I-84 is interesting with one humongous pass just after Pendleton and then one smaller one after that. I-80 is the most desolate road I've ever driven on after passing through Salt Lake City. Conservative cuss that I am, I'd opt for the direct route and skip the sight-seeing for some really nice scenery.
  18. You might call the tech guy at www.cvaxles.com and explain your dilemna and he might shed some light on it. Their axles are the best rebuild as far as I'm concerned; and not too pricey either ($55 each plus returnable core and shipping last time I bought a set).
  19. Typical symptom of the diode trio failing in the alternator. Usually a pre-curser to complete failure to charge. At least get a working spare from the local Pull a Part yard so you're not standed before you decide to install a new rebuilt alternator.
  20. 2WD axles and 4WD axles have different shaft diameters; I'm not so sure about the stubby that goes through the wheel bearings however. But it might explain why some axles pull through easily and others not.
  21. Actually, you're lucky they gave you the 23 and you have the 25 spline DOJ; the other way around and it goes on so easy you don't realize it's wrong until after you're done and go to drive away and the oversize DOJ shears off the roll pin! Been there, done that! Good luck getting the right axle; you might try getting one from richierich at Superior Import Repair. Good luck.
  22. Superior Import Repair, Rich Lawson (aka richierich on the USMB)....you can't go wrong with him. 503-288-8634.
  23. If the rad has become inefficient the sure sign is that the faster you go on the highway, the warmer she runs. If you've already replaced the thermostat and the fan kicks in when it should and you have the proper amount of coolent, then it's time for the radiator to be replaced. Don't waste your money on a flush of the system....that generally costs $30 to $40 and a new radiator can be had for around $100.
  24. 13 PSI is correct. I hope you kept the receipt for it also to prove it; it would be nice if you bought the rad cap at the same store.
