Offset is important. Subaru uses 55mm almost entirely for the 15" rims. Most aftermarket rims are 35mm. You can use the 35mm rims, but expect earlier than normal failure of the wheel bearings in that case. If you can find a set of steel Subaru rims with decent tires (evenly worn and reasonable tread depth), put them on the car on a temporary basis. That will allow you to remove the tires from your alloy rims and inspect the rims for corrosion. I suspect you'll find the corrosion is minimal and that valve stems are most likely your cause for the loss of air pressure. You can clean up the alloy rims and get new tires of your choice for them. You can use the steel rims for snow tires in the winter.

Aside from too lean a mixture (most likely), the wrong heat range for your plugs.

I'm almost as much of a novice and you right now (just look at the results from RAP). Anyway ask that question of Steve or Kathryn.

Rally Against Parkinson's - PIR - Saturday Sept. 10
edrach replied to lkindred's topic in Rally/Racing
Nice run on the track Ken, what's your secret to success? Sadly Chris didn't find someone to run with that day. Results are here: http://www.oregonrally.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2011/09/RAP2011_Results.pdf -
I you have a pick and pull wrecking yard you could also just wait until you find an '97 Impreza and strip the ignition lock and door locks to install on your car after a key is made for them. But having done this on a few cars myself, I'd suggest having a locksmith do the ignition lock install for you; door locks are easier, but the ignition lock can be tricky. Price it out to see which option is least expensive. Other year Imprezas should fit also.

GD has the correct idea. Check with a quality locksmith to see whether it's cheaper to re-key the ignition to match the doors or whether to re-key both door locks to match the ignition. Pulling the door locks is pretty easy, but an inspection mirror and flashlight would allow you to read the key code for the doors....something like W369. Another way to get the door codes/key would be to check with the dealer and have a key cut for the doors using the VIN number of the Impreza. That might be the cheapest approach, but would necessitate using two keys which could be a pain. A good locksmith could re-key the ignition just from the key code and having a door key made by the dealer would give you some confidence for the work needed and a spare key. Just an afterthought, check carfax for a salvage title. I have a '97 Impreza wagon with the original ignition and it seems unlikely to me that the ignition mechanism would need replacing (mine has 217K miles on it) just from age. It's possible the car was stolen, damaged, re-covered, repaired and sold again as a result. You might have more of an issue with the PO than you thought.

Air conditioning condenser removal
edrach replied to 81EA81's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Once you unbolt the AC condenser, just lift it up and out of the way. The rubber lines are there to allow you to move the condenser out of the way for other engine work. No need to remove the R12 or break the refrigeration lines. If you have a working AC system, don't mess with it since R12 is still the most efficient refrigerant available for AC. It is still legal to "top up" an existing R12 system if it's needed. -
Glad to see you post again. I haven't seen you on the Board for a while. Hopefully all is well with you. Maybe it's time to take advantage of the very late summer and have a mini get-together of local Subaru folk. I think we have room on our street for parking and a small BBQ. I'll have to talk about my better half about it.

Hard to believe they would postphone because of rain! Mud is the great equalizer. http://www.youtube.com/pdxrallynw#p/u/6/TbnYDCxWO4I

Yes, when the DOJ goes, it can shake pretty badly. I once had one vibrate so much it felt like the entire transmission would fall out.

Keep the flywheel from the blown engine. You'll be happier the next time you replace the clutch. Also, no need to worry about emissions any longer since there are no emission check required if your Brat is over 25 years old. Nice job is keeping a fine Brat out of the crusher. Best of luck with it.

Prematurely that is. Unless a new venue is found there will be no more events this year. Here's the quote from the ORG yahoo site: "ORG RallyCross events for the rest of 2011 are cancelled. We will continue to work on finding venues for another possible event this year, and also for next year. If you think you know of a good location find out who owns it and see if they would be interested in having an event at their property, and then I will contact them." If you know of any suitable venues, contact them at www.oregonrally.com.

Rally Against Parkinson's - PIR - Saturday Sept. 10
edrach replied to lkindred's topic in Rally/Racing
Thanks for posting this Lynn. Just got back from the OR shore last night and didn't get around to posting this. See you a week from Saturday. You're right, it is a great event and fun even for beginners. -
gear oil coming out the speedometer cable
edrach replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This needs to be resolved soon. If the grease gets into the speedometer head it can do significant damage to the speedo accuracy which can only be repaired by replacing the speedometer itself. -
Had my '85 Brat for a week now, a few questions
edrach replied to whistler's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You can get a rebuilt vacuum advance from http://www.philbingroup.com/rebuilt/distributors.htm in Portland. Much cheaper than buying a new disty and the vac advance has long since been discontinued by Subaru. -
This is definitely my favorite location for the WCSS. Aside from the great views the grounds are just the right size for our show. AND the local restaurants (not too many, but enough) offer some great food at reasonable prices for those not wanting to live on campground cooking. On another note, it looks like the vendors did well. They were well attended and brought product to sell. From what I saw they did sell a fair amount of product and made the trip worthwhile. The low WCSS vendor charge for a table didn't hurt either.

Sorry Shawn, I got them as Jerry was registering.
