  1. Regarding scoobywagon's comments: It's great to see someone talk about the facts and with some real understanding rather than the mis-information that I usually see posted when discussing A/C upgrades. As to the original poster's comment on having found a can of R12: If I remember correctly, these are 16 ounce cans; judging from the label on my Brat's compressor, a full charge (not just topping up) of R12 requires 28 ounces of R12 refrigerant.
  2. Exit 206 of I-5; head east past the airport and left at the Lumber Yard sign. If you get to the railroad tracks you missed your left turn.
  3. Visited yesterday. A good number of Legacy wagons. A '93, '95, '96 and '97 Outback there. Lots of older Legacies also. Found a 2WD turbo EA82 wagon with rear disks that someone might want. I saw at least two EA81 wagons. I didn't walk the yard like I usually do since I was focussed on pulling a fender off a '95 Impreza and removing rear disks from the '93 Legacy.
  4. My own experience has been letting it soak in for at least 5 minutes. I can't add any thoughts about applying heat since we've never done that; never needed to.
  5. Possibly, but I don't recognize the driver.
  6. It would be interesting to see the spec's on Yield. It is by far the most effective rust penetrant I've used.
  7. Going back to the original poster's question, the local Washingtion PAP yards (Tacoma, Lynnwood and Smokey Point) all charge $25 plus tax for any rear diff.
  8. Actually, FHI almost randomly applied a 3.900 or 4.111 front/rear diff on various years of legacies and Imprezas. Only way to tell is from the transmission number found on the bell housing of the transmission or the engine mounted VIN# plate. Check that number against the transmission charts posted in the USRM to find which ratio is the correct one.
  9. Impreza first came out in '93. Earliest Legacies were '90 altho I've seen some at PAP with late '89 manufacture dates.
  10. One thing that will help; do you have a manual transmission or automatic. Torque bind can affect both but for very different reasons. If your transmission is a 5MT search "viscous coupler" and you might find a few threads to help you out.
  11. You have two O2 sensors; the front one controls the fuel mixture and when it goes the car will run crappy (and if it's too rich will do in your cat). The rear one just monitors the exhaust and when it goes, it just tells the system that emissions are out of spec or the sensor is bad (or the wiring/connector are bad) and this one will not harm your cat. But as stated before, it can hide another CEL. I'm currently running with a P0136 code (O2 sensor on bank 2) with my '97 Impreza. I think I have a loose wire at the connector since I repaired that once before. I'll take care of that when I can crawl under the car again. Car is running fine and the CEL is on but not flashing.
  12. Not having read all 17 pages, but I did read where "final drive ratio was not a concern." I can't speak to EA gearboxes, but I do know that the EJ gearboxes came with a 3.900 or 4.111 ratio (check out the transmission charts in the USRM). If you're just adding an LSD that shouldn't change anything, but if you're changing the gearbox, make sure the front diff and rear diff ratios are the same.
  13. I have to agree with you on '82 being the best year since it is truly unique since the trim pieces were changed in '83 and later.
  14. It's a GL model '85 or earlier (rear seats were eliminated in '86 I believe). Not an '82 since the tail-light trim was different. I can't narrow it down any closer than that.
  15. Front wheel bearings are pretty easy. The HTKYSA book would tell you how to replace them I believe. Otherwise, ask here. Someone will help you. The odds are that the Brat's hesitation is a fuel filter which needs replacing. It's located next to the fuel pump underneath the car near the rear wheel. People tend to overlook it and when it starts to restrict fuel flow, it stalls the car or causes hesitation. Let it sit for 20 minutes and it will be okay again until the next time. Welcome to the Board.
  16. Amazing how often this question comes up. EJ22 was non-interference up to and including 1996. With the 1997 model year, it became an interference engine. With 218K, consider swapping it out with a lower mileage EJ22.
  17. It would be nice if they could hook up with WCSS11 on the Sunday after the show. There must be somewhere in Skamania county where someone could hold a RX.
  18. Amazing when I saw the original post date on this thread. Some people do use the search engine! Anyway (GD probably knows this), is Philbin still in business and rebuilding vacuum advance units for a reasonable price?
  19. I should be there in the afternoon. Happy B'day, Zap.
  20. I no longer use Fram filters but I did for many years (over 35) and really never had an issue with them. But then again, I change my oil/filter every 2500 miles. Leave it in there for any longer and you might have a different result.

  22. Yes. Check the USRM for tips on axle replacement.
  23. Max, thanks for the feedback. I was hoping for this to get back to you. I'm thinking of making it out in October but it's not definite yet. James will not make it out as far as I know since he'll likely not get the time off from school or work; also, he may not qualify for the National since he hasn't run any of the Challenge series. I've checked some of the videos posted on your group's website but all the Fountain ones are PPIR and not the Truck driving course. I'm really jealuous of all the venues you guys seem to have and the number of events you can field and the fact that you don't ever seem to use a water truck. Edit: Found the USTDS videos; I just didn't search deep enough. Regards to Ken also. I'm impressed with the amount of power that the EVOs manage to put to the ground.
  24. Yes, I personally prefer N/A since the turbo lag is one issue I don't have to deal with. Max was an exceptional driver and did very well in Hillsboro.
