  1. The metal arm that goes out to the diaphragm has a spring around it. If the arm is binding there's probably rust inside the tube that's restricting the arm from moving easily. Either that or someone stretched to spring to make it stronger. I think I may have some of the pieces you need. If you know exactly what you need I will look into my "sprare parts bin."
  2. Hitachi or ND? If it's Hitachi, the entire thing can be disassembled quite easily. If I remember correctly, the lower plate runs on ball bearings. If that's rusted or one of the balls is out of the channel, it'll bind up. Sorry, it's been too long since I've had one apart so far.
  3. How long do you plan on staying? We could put you up in the motorhome if you're looking for a place to crash.
  4. I know of at least one, but I'll have to look through my pics to see if there's more. I'm sure we had a Forester section for the show 'n shine.
  5. Thanks. Not a super rush. I hope you're surviving the snow and now the monster rain.
  6. If you have a manual transmission and can read the ID number on it (or off the VIN plate), check the transmission chart in the USRM to see what the rear end ratio is. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=76617
  7. If you need to put it in 4WD to get it to move, check and tighten the castle nuts on both front wheels. If it still doesn't move in FWD, then one or both of the front hubs are stripped and need replacing. Also, check the inner and outer axle boots. If one is pretty torn up, it could be a broken joint which could give you the same symptom as a stripped hub. Good luck with it. Nice score.
  8. It would help to know whether it was LSD (clutch disk type) or viscous VLSD.
  9. that might help if you want to go through the trouble. Year, model, mileage, condition, etc. would help also. Send me an attachment at edrach at spamcop dot net. Thanks.
  10. In our case, the fight is with the insurance company which has dragged this out for three years. To avoid the 3 year statute of limitation, we had to file suit against the taxi driver who hit the Brat. Our fight is not with him, but the suit is needed to finally establish a court ordered valuation for the Brat. After that it will be more difficult for the insurance company not to pay. We'll see.
  11. I'm sorry for your loss. It's so sad when someone young is killed. There's a duplicate thread on the NW forum of nasioc about this. William was in the back seat of that WRX. He likely never knew what happened. Remember him fondly; forget how he died.
  12. Having just filed a small claims action, filing fee is $25 and $34 to have the papers served by the sheriff. After that your time and effort to present the case properly. Actual court time isn't that great.
  13. quite right. Only recourse is small claims court which is relatively inexpensive to file and lawyers are not allowed! Downside is you have to argue your own case and be meticulously prepared.
  14. Here's a particularly useful section: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=284-30-330
  15. Washington Insurance Comissioner's Office. 1-800-562-6900. You might have to call more than once. Different people give more useful information than others. Know what you want to ask BEFORE you call. Pertainent regulations are in the WA code at WAC 284-30-3907 and WAC 284-30-3911. Here is the link: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=284-30
  16. Your first couple entry is confirmed. My wife who drove rallies for me for 15+ years will be running with me!
  17. Copied and pasted from another website: Hi guys, It's that time of year again and we're trying to put together a season of events for the rallyx season in our area. We got permission from the landowner today to use his property for this event. James, I'm posting this up here because it's only 2hrs from Vancouver in Stanwood, WA. Last time I posted a rallyx I got PMs about not having enough rallyx events on the mainland. Here we go! Details are still being sorted but here is the information we currently have: Quote: What: OCE Valentine's RallyX When: Sunday, February 15th, 2009 Sanction: NASA Where: Stanwood, WA (actual map to be posted later) Cost: $30USD/$35CAD per entry, free to spectate Bonus: Bring your wife/girlfriend and she gets to race for 1/2 price! Thanks, Erik Lyden Off-Camber Events
  18. Yea, call me; PM'd you my 'phone number and some preliminary questions.
  19. Two pieces of advice for getting the maximum life out of your battery: Make sure you don't leave it in a partially discharged condition for any length of time. Lead sulfate can coat the lead surfaces when in a partially (or fully:eek:) discharged state. Keeping up the charge will prevent this non-reversible situation. How to do that: Make sure your alternator is always putting out properly. If you make many short trips (each start takes out more charge than you can put back in 15 minutes of driving), use a trickle charger overnight to bring the charge back up. If you have a battery that still allows you to add water, check it often and top up with distilled water only.
  20. You might try www.fixmysuby.com. They are in Portland, but UPS ground shipping is only one day away. They are an all Subaru service shop but I'm pretty sure they can get you your KYBs. Owner has been a USMB member for a long time. Ask for Richie if you call them.
  21. Looks like the Off Camber group might be planning a rallycross at a new location north of Everett, WA. http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8141
  22. Consumer Reports always favors lower price over better quality (easier to quantify). Cost of lead has gone up because of shortages (think Iraq war) and as a result the cost of batteries for your car.
