fastest I have been in my '88 XT turbo is 190km/h, or 118,75mph to 100mph is easy, the last couple of miles takes the longest, I think I may have gone a bit higher, perhaps 200km/u, but I ran out of road...

I believe your question is equally off topic but, to answer your question, find out your original tire sizes, using the tacho and final drive ratio's calculate the speed your suppose to be going with original tires, than do the same with your bigger tires, that way, you'll know the difference and can anticipate for it. and most importantly, avoid hefty fines :-p

exhaust making a puttering sound
joostvdw replied to cndymyfrnd's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It sounds like a leaking exhaust to me.. can you find the source of it? is the sound coming directly from the exhaust? or maybe somewhere under the car, or perhaps from the engine itself? are you sure the timing belts are installed correctly? -
I would leave the engine/tranny at the same/correct angles to each other to fix you problem, smack a dent in your TWE header or, dent your Xmember

im FT4WD 5spd...YUSS
joostvdw replied to LPGsuperchargedBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I get that every morning on the offramp to school  off course, only when I hit the corner hard, but hey, still kinda fun:grin: -
caboobaroo: what kind of plumbing are you talking about? the flanges will be made and welded for me, I'm adding a impreza IC so plumbing to my spider intake shouldn't be that hard? north wet: I believe my turbo is broken because it burns a lot of oil, it uses a litre of oil in about 800km's (don't know what that is in non-metric sizes, sorry), it still boosts good, I haven't check axial/radial movement, I'll try this weekend. there is no oil in the intake and I do not believe the rings are gone (had the heads off 6000km's ago and I could the original cross markings in the wall) do you have any idea what a VF7 + shipping would cost me?
-
right, so I have a choice now, my old VF7 is taking a crap and I have to replace it, I can have it rebuilt for 500 euro and go one just the way it is, or, I can get a TD04, have it mounted and a IC for like, 600 euro's.... So this is a forced decision, I have to pick either one and stick with that choice, I don't have the money to switch around. Of course the TD04 will gross me more power but what about reliabilty? Is the stock engine/fuel managent up to it, at stock boost (I believe that is 10psi right?)? It is my daily driver and if it blows up it's "bye bye XT" because this is one of the very last XT's in my country.... one final question, does a impreza IC bolt onto the XT? Or do I have to fab something for it to work? thanks in advance, Joost

Evidently, stock is best. *dyno charts*

bump to a old thread! did someone ever find out about this strange boost behavior of the '88 ecu? because my XT did the same last week, boosting all the way to 0,9 bar (13psi for you ) but only above ~5000rpm but it wasn't noticably faster or something? who has the answer? -
My car has an unfriendly tenant

as far as I can see those spiders live in abundance here, and since I don't know the english word for them, here's the latin name: "Araneus diadematus", you'll be able to find pic's and descriptions using that name. as far as killing them, well, I don't particulary like them, but killing is a bit harsh, I usually sweep them out of the way or work around em. edit: check out this link, http://www.ivory.org/spiders/araneus.diadematus.html -
Turbo Spec???? VF_ Whats it all mean
joostvdw replied to ausubaru92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the RHB5 code says something about the internals, the compressor wheel dimensions and so forth the VF4 or VF7 code specifies the whole turbo unit, so they may have the same internals, but different housings or mounting pounts. that's what I always thought anyway... -
My car has an unfriendly tenant
joostvdw replied to bgd73's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have spiders in BOTH door mirrors, very annoying, every day I remove the webs between the mirror and the door(s) and the next morning they're back all that effort to make my 18 year old car look like new, and those stupid spiders ruin the whole look grrrr btw, a royal garden hose flush didn't do a thing, hardy little bastards -
FT4wd 5spd first gear noise
joostvdw replied to LPGsuperchargedBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my gearbox in my '88 XT does the same, and as far as I know, the first gear IS straight cut, for it to be stronger when offroading... just as useless as the height button for the air susp if you ask me -
the sidetanks are metal, don't know if they're alloy or just steel, but a magnet will tell can (and should) I make it a 2-row if it isn't already? or how should I check whether or not it's a 2-row?
-
yeah that's the main problem, sure, you can get most parts in the US, but in europe (and holland especially) it's a real pain to get even a dizzy cap anyway, rad rebuilt? never heard of it, but, I'm going to check that out tomorrow. guess that's my only options, if it turns out to be nothing I'm going to try some random radiators, like maybe a VW of some kind, a bmw perhaps? :-p
-
hi, is there any new gen radiator (legacy, impreza, whatever) that fits in the XT? because my old radiator is about to die and any original replacement are non-existent, so I'm searching for a rad somewhere else the most important thing is the bottom pins/holes to line up, and to fit between the rad support.

or moisture! did you make absolutely sure your rear disk setup did not have moisture in them or was laying open when you got it? If not, flush the rear section, and bleed them again.

I caught an "invisible" in action
joostvdw replied to bgd73's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I must say, this is starting to become increasingly difficult to understand your saying "it" likes your new muffler and hot exhaust gasses, but on the other hand it's a good thing your wheelnuts are rusting (while you've just painted them) and spark are flying to your hands.... talk about communication difficulties :-\ I may have read that you are from a different country? could that explain your "interesting" description of problems? or should I start smoking something and come back later -
What is "highest mileage" world record?

old mercedes diesels can and will reach 1,5 million km's, especially in the old eastern germany and poland/russia were they use them as cabs (from 1960 till now ), they just keep on driving them... -
Steveman09's E-Manage Project Thread
joostvdw replied to Steveman09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I haven't seen this thread before, but it looks very promising! I knew about the E-manage system but never read about a old sube equipped with one Still think it's worth the $$? No annoying problems so far? If so, great work -
if you do so, you'll lose all the marks, letters and everything else, except what lights up, not very handy plus that when your dash is originally red, putting a blue piece of plastic in front of it, won't make it blue, but more....uhm.... maroon I guess? anyway, ugly

at 7k to 7,5k your valves start to float, I've had my EA82T up to 7-and-a-bit-k and sounded alright (just very loud ) If you want high rpm's go for desmodromic (do you spell it this way? don't know for sure....) heads that would rock...
-
VW sound so much sharper because they're AC, a lot of the noise they make comes from the cilinders a subaru is of course LC and the KVS jackets dampen the cilinder noise, so you'll only hear the exhaust note and yes, subaru's sound great un-mufflered

Another Stupid Exhaust Question
joostvdw replied to 4WDFrenzy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you'll probably lose a lot of low-end with that large exhaust, I'm currently running a 2,5inch from the turbo back and I noticed a bit loss of torque, but not dramatically so I think you're better off with 2,5 inch and 1 (or 2) free flowing mufflers
