  1. Always to the point (not what i want to hear though ) Does air bubbles in the coolant tank always mean a HG failure? or could it be a leak somewhere else in the system.
  2. Was adding window washer liquid yesterday on the 91 legacy and also checked the oil levels. All were fine. But when i checked the coolant tank the volume was just below the MIN mark (about 1 cm or so). Just had been driving the car for about 1000 km in 5 days with my girlfriends parents. Showing Holland. Usually driving around 100 km/h on the highway. Nice and normal speed at 3k rpm. At normal roads at 2.25k rpm (80 km/h). Car drives fine however in top gear not a racer (but think the 2.0l with the 4eat and 250k km is never a racer) Although when i shift back it just wants to go like a plane. It drives fine. I changed the coolant 2 years ago and added a year ago about 300 ml. Now added about 200 ml. When car is running it never ever overheated or even showing the needle higher than in the middle. When running at idle airbubbles are shown in the overflow tank about 1 bubble per 3 seconds. There is not much oil usage and also havent seen oil in the coolant. Heater works fine as well the radiator cap. Could this be a head gasket or is it just the driving in hot (25C) weather for 1000km. Could it be evaporated coolant? I am woried cause some search results show all HG problems in combination or airbubbles in coolant tank.
  3. Well good you dont have anything. Was the car still running while it was upside down? Colleague saw the picture and said its a bit strange way to inspect the exhaust and catalyc unit.
  4. Can i get your old ones????? So i can hang then under the hood to distract the beech martens to eat those . Well here its every 105K km together with timing belt (why the difference with the US cars where its 100k miles i dont know).
  5. I always have to think how much 2 inch is it doesnt sound much. But its a real 5 cm which sounds really 2.5 times bigger/more Dad is picking up the 05 OBW which i kissed the tree with. So guess will not be driving the Diesel soon again. Or maybe i can try and get new sparkplug cables from the dealer and show my interest.
  6. Its just aint fair you can get the turbo in the legacy over there. (now i will get complaints that we have the Boxer Diesel ) Looks nice although i can not have any opinion about the price. I know 100K miles in US is different than 160K km in europe (different roads)
  7. In Holland, Germany (and probably all other EU countries) when you have your car parked after sunset and outside residential zone of a village you need to have your lights one when the car is parked on or partialy on the road. Just to prevent people crashing into the parked car at night. You can either park it completely of the road (lights can be off) or install LED lamps for the tail and front markers so it wont kill your battery. White (blue-ish) LED's are cool . Yes and there is the switch for.
  8. What the .. It looks cool but bit overcomplicated I also know the boxer diesel having to crankshafts and the cylinders moving towards each other making the compression.
  9. Finally we made it so far that we can make clean and quiet cars and now suddenly lots of people lost their ability of sight in cities and get run over by an electric car. COME ON Just look before you cross the street, Always look. Ok but indeed for blind pedestrians it can be quite hard. As we here in holland have addapted traffic lights with sounds for the blinds, as well when a blind person lifts his (i am blind pole) than the cars should stop and let him cross. Although now subaru can add the cool boxer sound to show a tiny car is comming
  10. we got full size spares on both the 05 OBW and the 91 legacy wagon. Although the Outbacks one is now on the attic at home cause the propane tank there. Ok but to help you out a 5 tire rotation scheme would like like this Left front = LF, Left Rear = LR, Right front = RF, Right Rear = RR, Boot = B LF goes to LR LR goes to RF RF goes to RR RR goes to B B goes to LF Guess i had them all if you need a drawing please ask again, have no time at this very moment.
  11. Not so sure about thouse 115hp, my EJ2.0 (non turbo, SOCH) gives 116. The EU rateded the EJ18 at 105hp, thats not a lot for a heavy car. Dunno how much 1 hp will do though.
  12. Ow yes but i have seen a zoo instruction video about martens. They can bite off fingers easily thats one reason to not even pick them. Second they are full of other small life not so healty to humans. As well they are protected species over here. Altough i cought one once on the engine while i started and that one was pulled in the alternator pulley and was in 2 pieces befor it could do damage. 1-0 but now its 1-2 and i dont like loosing.
  13. Well at least the 05 OBW has a underbelly under the engine bay which helps a lot already.
  14. The parking place was filled with at least 75 other cars so why do they choose me. There are mothballs but i guess they finished working:rolleyes: . I am a biochemist and have access to lots of chemicals (e.g. sodium cianide salts, but salts dissolve in water so one rain and i might kill myself with the vapors comming of). Was more thinking in covering the cables with some steel mesh or duct tape.
  15. Had some problems this morning. Started engine and was running bit like on 3 cyl and rough. Ok was cold so give gentle throttle to keep it going and started to deice my windows with the scrubber. Got in the car reversed out of the parking space, move lever to D and engine stalled. Ok seems weird but lets say its the cold although car ran flawless night before. Managed to drive bit powerless engine, still no codes were shown. drove away from traffice light and just no power at all could not even go above 1500 rpm. Put the car on the side and opened the hood, and got a shock from touching the release button. Managed to open and saw nice lightning sparks from the coilpack to the intake manyfold WTF. Those bastards visited me again:mad: . They chewed cyl 3 cable completely and cyl 2 was opened. Stopped engine and replaced with the 2 i still had as spare in the trunk from last time. Its getting really annoying (and expensive compared to the market value of the car since there are not many junkjards with subarus) Anybody any new ideas against the Beech Martens. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beech_Marten
  16. 1991 Legacy stationwagon 2.0 2wd 4eat, NO a/c, no cruise. 250.000 km With wintertires its 2 to 3mpg lower, although they are overpresured by 0.2 bar to save some extra. Just have to check the tire wear well for bad wear tracks. On average its 24mpg, In the city from 10 to 20 mpg depends on weather and distance On the highway 65m/h around 28mpg. 2005 outback wagon 2.5, AWD, 4eat with A/c and cruise (on LPG/propane) 115.000 km 18mpg on average, on gasoline around 28mpg. (it will be fixed soon again after kissing with a tree )
  17. Ok to get on the topic again. One Eye how does it driver after having it for a week. Any unlogical things? like buttons ect.??
  18. OUCH just checked same outback would cost 58.5K For the us people here this is 91K dollar. I would say lets give Setright a (i know salaries are higher in Danmark but not so much.
  19. you are really not going to believe the following numbers: Lets say Car (just the car no tax no anything) costs 20k euros Then add 45% tax on that (its a government punishment for the reason to buy a car, this is called BPM tax which also applies to all extras bought) So then we arrive at 29k euros, then we still have to add the TAX which is 19.5% OUCH yes over the car so of the 20K. Which then is 34.65k euros for that car. The outback 2.5i basic costs 23.1K euro and you pay 36.6K to take it home. Most painfull this BPM tax is not used to improve the traffic jams and roads. HINT, never buy a car in holland. This BPE gets lower with the life of the car.
  20. Had seen it last week when i the crashed outback at the dealer. Also the new outback diesel was in. I like the new forester a lot, it lost its 'i am a japanese looking car' a lot. Wishing i could buy them in dollars, omg $ 26k. Its over 30k euros over here that hurts a lot. Good luck with it
  21. You should know how low the dollar is against the euro. Its much better for me to get parts from there
  22. Pitty its not allowed to use studs or snowchains in holland. Only normall winter tyres are allowed. Since its only colder here, like arround 5 degrees Celsius on average. But yes it would have been better and my own car has them. If it is an write off we might go for the boxer diesel which is just introduced here +X (where X = infinite) for the engineers who make it possible that you just unbuckle and step out without being harmed
  23. Thats what i thought as well, but keep in mind it weights over 1500 kg (its a bi-fuel) which has to be stopped. Somehow the middle of the front doesnt seem extremely strong, probably for reasons.
