The tree wasnt hit like going full frontal in to it. I was sliding under sideways going forward. Hit the tree exactly in the middle and pushed it bit more towards the passenger side as you can see from image 3. The passenger side fender might be bended slightly. Actually i would not expect the airbags to deploy concerning the speed and angle of negative acceleration. Airbag sensor do not to be crushed in order to work but just pass the thresshold value of negative acceleration. Small posts usually set them off, but in many cases the seatbelt would be sufficient, like in this case. I was more happy i didnt struck the car on the side. Would give much more damage and, ok with side airbags and curtain, i still can not imagine it is better then a frontal crash.

Somehow i dont like ABS, its not helping in anyway in this situation. Question though would it been better without, most likely not. Maybe i should have given throttle to get out but then i most likely would have hit the tree on the side which would be my side. Although there are side airbags and a curtain i still prefer it like this.

Was going to pick up my dad in the morning, heavy snow fall last night for holland. Was driving carefully but not carfull enough i guess. Had to take a 90 degree turn to the right was reducing speed from maybe 30 km/h, then started to skid tried to correct and aim for the bushes but was already going sideways to much. Braced and bang. Engine still running but squeeling, gearbox jumped into N. Stopped engine directly and stepped out not being harmed at all. Hit the tree with ~15 km/h (no airbag deployment or seatbelt pre-tensioner). Car folded up much more than i would expect. Radiator was still ok and not leaking. Then had to call dad cause its his car . Car was towed to the dealer, will see if it is end of story. Drivetrain seems fine but front end damage is quite a lot, rear bumper has small scratch of moving sideways. Well i have nothing thats most important

It is rated at 5.6 liter per 100 km which is exactly 42 miles per gallon US standards. -

Just WOW I drove the diesel legacy station yesterday evening at the dealer. Had to go there to pick up dads 05OBW from the service and really couldnt resist to ask for a drive. It drives very nice and quiet not being used to that from a diesel. I had my driving lessons in a BMW 325td which is a very fast car but its still a BMW. Ok about the diesel. The interior is the same funny thing is that the consumption meter is not going very far and as well the 'on a full tank' distance is great. The gearbox was bit funny, 2nd is bit 'missplaced' in the row of gears. But it will work great in traffic jams. Read from one autojournal that while slow drive a shift to 1st is unavoidable. Complete nonsense i would say. There is just so much torque available. And for a diesel its a very fast one. But the price. In holland is really bad, bit high. -
I have a key hidden under the car. And you really need to know where in order to find it. It might also be good idea. Usually the reason for that was my sporting needs. If i go sailing and the boat sinks or breaches and i loose my keys then i am stuck far away from home. Second is i climb a lot also things can happen.

nope nope nope, thats for sure not a subaru and nothing to do with it. Then what is it. Its an Opel Astra (GM), also know as Vauxhall Astra or Holden Astra. And from now i think as the Chevy Cobalt. BTW the police cars are the same make as well. And they are all build in Germany. And trust me its second best sold car here in holland so i know the model. Although it would have been better if it was a WRX but then the police wouldnt stand a chance

I had other rodents eating my ignition cables 2 of them (yees subie runs on 2 cyl but not great). The i put chlorate cubes (these WC things with their hangers) at 3 places in the engine bay and no problems afterwards. (once had a rodent decapitated by starting the car, clever animal puts his head between the belt and the alternator pulley:grin: )

It is 107 (torque arround 150 Nm), not to bad compared to the 116 from the (91 legacy) old 2.0 Although i drove it and it just seems missing the power to get it going nicely. In 1st and 2nd it goes in high revs but then it lost already all sense of fuel economy. To my opinion the new 2.0 would not be much worse in consumption just because it doesnt have to work so hard. But on the other hand the 1.5 will just do fine if you just want a nice AWD for daily travel (not towing anything).

And yes the Legacy boxer diesel (turbo) is for sale in Holland, Germany and probably in other European countries. Consumption is 5.6 l/100 km which is more efficient than its main competitors (VW passat and EU Ford Mondeo) and its very quiet. At 120km/h its 70 db while even a RR phantom is 72 db . Price is like competition. http://www.autoobserver.com/2008/01/subaru-boxer-di.html And some sound (at idle) -
As i have noticed my torque converter only locks after 20 to 30 minutes of driving with speed above 75 km/h. This is done by keeping 80 km/h (+- 2500 rpm in 4th with not locked TC) then when TC locks the rpm drops to +- 2250 r) If i now give little extra throtle the revs dont increase (a lot like 250rpm) but more in a slower way, it feels if the engine is directly driving the wheels. If TC is not locked the revs increases somewhat 250 rpm. I expect this to be normal to the gearbox, also the longer warming up time. (on outside temperatures of aroun 10 C). am i right ??? And when it doesnt want to go to 4th i never pass 2500 rpm to treat it well as just common sense that it cant be good to go higher.

What is it with these frameless door windows. THey are just cool. Driving in summer opening the door and you just see just the door which makes it look like a real sports car. Subaru also proved it whas not needed for safety (looking at all subies without them performed best in safety tests. There seem to be more wind noise without them. (mine does, 05 OBW doesnt?!?). Looks like a starting button taken from toyota. Its fine as long as you can keep the key in the pocket.
