  1. well if you are still around we just bought a 2004 legacy wagon for 20,000...it has been great all around so far!
  2. 2004 Legacy Wagon, 2.5 Automatic it only has 1,000 miles but we get around 23 in the city and around 28 on the freeway. According to SOA you get less mileage with the manual tranny, about a mile per gallon less, It should improve some as we get some miles on it.
  3. Just bought a 2004 Legacy, dealer did the same thing...you can punch out the screw but holes will be left behind...I haven't done it yet on our legacy but I'm tempted.
  4. Another Q....what brand of gas do you recommend...I live in cali, I have the 2.5 litre H-4, the soob recommends 87 octane.
  5. Sounds good, thanks for the info, how often do you suggest replacing the PCV valve.
  6. Thanks for the tips... the dealer said to stay away from synthetic oil until about 4,000 miles...I guess the seals have trouble seating themselves. I live in an area where it is around 100 degrees all summer:banghead: and it is around 40 in the winter...:santa: what oil do you guys suggest I use...I am thinking of going for synthetic at around 4,000 miles...how often will I need to change it out for normal, every day driving?
  7. Well here in cali the drill before they even hit the dealer lot...got love cali...the land of taxes, taxes, and well more taxes:madder:
  8. Well you can get the Outback Limited for the same price as the Legacy GT. With the legacy GT you get the sportshift which is pretty cool but it didn't seem worth it to me, it is about 5 grand more. Basicaaly it came down to cash, if I had the extra cash I probably would have gone for the Outback Limited
  9. We liked the silver too, but not a good color in fog county, we got the seamist green, looks great
  10. I wonder if they have been saying that for the past 10 years...well only time will tell.
  11. Well I have Legacy H4 with 50 miles on it. I am a very proud owner and wnat to take very good care of her! So what do I need to do that the maintenance schedule doesn't call for? Any tips or advice are more than welcomed! Andy Haussler:headbang:
  12. Have they redesigned the 2.5 at all for the recent models to avoid the head gasket issues...we have a 2004, hoping they got the kinks worked out
  13. Well on Saturday we becam official subi owners. We got a 2004 Legacy Special Edition H-4. It is a very nice car. Thankyou for all of your input. I bouht the 100,000 warranty...haggled with them to get the cost down. The costco program was best price we could find. We are hoping to take a trip up to yosemite soon. thanks againg for the info! Andy Haussler
  14. I understand the benfits of AWD and would love to have it. However I do not live in snow country, although yosemite is about 40 min drive up the road. Well it is decision time, we are trying to find a manual tranny and are having a tough time. Thanks for the heads up on issues that can arrise. As far as the Forester Turbo goes my wife isn't a huge fan of how the forester looks and we like the cargo area in the legacy better. We will probably get the extended warranty unless it is outrageous, it will give me some peace of mind. Thanks for all of you radvice and effort!
  15. Well I have to admit you guys are worrying me a bit. i have had a terrible experience with a GM car, just not designed to last. Is a subaru going to be reliable on par with a honda or toyota?
  16. So does anybody have a response to the last post? GM makes the body cladding, that surprises me, does GM make anyhting else for subaru?
  17. Ya, getting the wife to go for manual was a huge win. Thanks for the tips on the dog...dogs are great but they can be a hassle! Another q for all of you guys out there. We have the option now to extend our warranty up 7 years and 100,000 miles, the going price is around a grand. Do you all think this is worth it?
  18. Hmmm...We haven't thought about the dog w/fabric. We have a golden retriever, awesome dog by the way:) but tons of hair. We are planning on getting the rubber mats and keeping her in the back...so it probably wouldn't make a difference, as the leather isn't in the cargo space anyhow. Thanks for the advice...we test drove the H-6 but it didn't kick in some serious power until it got revved up pretty high...you would have to push it hard to get the power out of it. When you are ready to buy check out carsdirect.com, they have the best prices I have been able to get so far. Hopefully by this weekend we will be official subie drivers!
  19. Thanks again for the input. We have decided to go with a manual Legacy Limited...unless we can steal the outback limited for about the same price. Thanks! Any more advice is more than welcomed! I will probably be pestering you guys for advice on how to treat our new Legacy!
  20. Thanks for the input...we are thinking the 2.5 Legacy limited edition is the best deal. I have heard of people having trouble with the clutch in the manual...anybody confirm that? What about these horror stories about gaskets going...yikes!
  21. I am thinking seriously about purchasing a new (2003 or 2004) Subaru Legacy or Outback Wagon. Any advice on whether to get a manual or an automatic? I have heard the manual have more problems, is this true. Also do you think the outback is worth the extra cash? Another question, do you think the new subarus will have the same problems with the head gaskets? Thanks!
