I was trying to figure out how much of a pressure drop there is across the stock turbo setup. My boost gauge, which is plumbed directly into the intake, says that max boost is 7 psi. I was wondering what the wastegate is set to open at since the wastegate solenoid pulls a measurement directly from the turbo outlet. Just trying to see how efficient the stock setup is.

I'm jumping on the bandwagon too. It would be real nice to see some dyno printouts. Even just scan them on the computer. By the way, where did dj go?

The AAV was what I was talking about. I mixed up that and the pcv valve. Sorry again. It is the hose that connects to the nipple that is on the underside of the intake plenum (with Turbo 4WD cast into it) that I left unconnected. So i need to plum that into the intake after the intercooler? Also, do you think wrapping any of the IC piping with a heat wrap/header wrap would help keep temps down? Thanks for all the help.

Last nite I hooked up a saab 900 intercooler on my 87 turbowagon. My problem is that is didn't have enough time to hook up the bypass valve or do anything with the pcv valve. I just left the hose that runs into the stock intake metal piece from the pcv open. The car would fast idle for about 5 seconds and then just die. Is the cause no bypass valve or pcv. I remember hearing someone say on the board that they ran all of their pcv valves to a separate air filter?

is there a speed limiter on my loyale?

general disorder- when you say it was on the "downward slope of the power curve" at 5000 i was wondering why, because i believe that the horsepower peaks out at 5200 rpm. I could be wrong but wouldn't 5000 be living pretty good? -
I plan on running 11-13 psi on my 87 turbo w/ intercooler, 180 thermo and rebuilt heads and had a few questions. first, is there any way to run 89 octane with this setup? Second, does advancing the timing past 20 degrees BTDC to say maybe 25 degrees BTDC make the upper RPM power decrease. I seem to recall hearing that advancing the timing boosts low end at the sacrifice of top end. I was wondering if this is true.

I was mixing up hoses. Sorry. Everything now goes where it is supposed to, but the breather hose, after it tee's with the line coming from the canister to the intake, goes to nowhere. This was the main question of the post. Where should it go after it tee's with the line going into the intake. You said it should go to the MAF, but where does it go after that? I just got all mixed up looking at it last nite. Once again, very sorry.

I thought it was a little wierd that the book said that i should get boost under a no load situation. The hose i have right now that isn't connected to anything might be okay being left unconnected? The input to the wastegate solenoid still gets a direct signal from the manifold pressure so i'm wondering if it will work and if not, what goes where hose is coming from on the manifold. I am starting to become less confused, just more curious. ARGGGGGH!! Thanks for all the input though.

Sorry to be persistant, but i've been racking my brain all evening trying to figure out where it might go. If anyone knows a general idea of where it is supposed to go, that would be greatly appreciated. Any experts know?

I was looking at the vacuum setup on my 87 turbowagon and saw that there are 3 lines coming out of the wastegate solenoid. The one in the back, to the wastegate, the one on bottom to the manifold, block, and the 3rd one in the front goes to the line running from the canister into the intake but has a tee on it. The section coming off the tee on the other side goes nowhere. It must have broke off something because the plastic nipple is snapped off in it. I search for past threads and it said that the line should go to the turbo outlet? I am very confused. Vacuum seems to unaffected because it idles with 17-18 inches. Goes right back after throttle. When i rev the motor to 2400 w/ clutch depressed i get no boost though. The book says i should get 6-7 psi. I am thoroughly confused. If anyone could help, i might be able to sleep tonite. thanks

I've got the adjustable struts maxed out up front and my camber is horrible. Can Les Schwaab or other suspension places bring it back into range or do I have to lower the car and then have it aligned. It drives like a pile of crap right now and i can't stand it. It's almost like a toyota or something.

Thanks for all the advice. I would do it today but i broke my clutch ankle snowboarding last night. It was a fun drive home. Looks like i'll be surfing the web today. Just a quick question about the idle, should i set it exactly to 700 or can it be anywhere from 600-800?

How should i go about finding the marks on the flywheel. There is a little bit of rust on it. Do I turn the motor over by hand to find them and if so how do i do that. thanks

I have a turbo wagon and there are no timing marks on the crankshaft pulley. Will it still have timing marks on the flywheel even though it is a turbo?

'92 subaru --Stubborn startin up why??

On a sube i had in the past the grounds always needed to be adjusted when the weather turned cold. As soon as the temp would change drastically it would fire off as quick. Check all your grounds. that might be it. -
I just put in the superstock coil, borg warner plugs, and NGK v-power regapped to .052" in my 87 turbowagon. No missfires even at 6500 revs. Noticeably better and smoother acceleration. Doesn't bog down. One of my best mods yet. I think this was exagerated by my crap Kmart wires and old champion plugs. Still, it was well worth the money. The resistance on the superstock is higher than my stock coil, but i believe it only matters if the resistance is way too low. Like lots of MSD coils.

The new Borg Warner Nascar Select plugs are supposed to be real good. They measure less resistance than Accel 8 mm superstock wires. YOu can also buy them already custom cut to fit. They are only 7 mm but are magnetic suppression so thicker is not needed. They work great.

I measured the downpipe diameter on my 87 turbowagon and it looked to be slightly less than 2.25 inches ID. I was wondering if this holds thoughout the pipe or not. The bottom end was still hooked up and was not easily unbolted. I'm trying to get the best flow for as cheap as possible. I was thinking of running the stock downpipe W/ staright pipe instead of cat with some grinding at the wastegate flange, custom 2.25" exhaust and no 2nd cat or muffler. Will this give good power or should i go ahead and fab up a custom downpipe?

Has anyone tried hooking up the ebrake on the rear of a sube that has disc brakes. I thought maybe the calipers from the front and rear could be the same, then all you would have to do is run the cable. Just an idea. I miss doing ebrake slides.

Optima and Interstate are part of the same company so if there is an Interstate battery wearhouse around you can get optimas for really cheap. I bought my red top optima at the Interstate battery in WA for 60 bucks. It was brand new but they said it had cosmetic blemishes because it didn't have a label. My car is a cosmetic blemish so i bought it. Works great.

thanks for the correction. Do you guys all plumb your bypass valves between the intercooler and the thottle body? That seems like it would be the best place.

I read on a website that using a Bypass valve on a hot wire MAF car is better than using a BOV. It said that when a BOV releases into the atmospere that it makes the car run richer, because it makes the ECU think that it is burnt and draws more fresh air in. A bypass valve vents it back into the intake behind the MAF and would make it run a little leaner, but maybe more precise. I was wondering if anyone had experienced this with any results.

I was wondering if anyone else had the same turbo problem with using Restore. My compression isn't horrible in the cylinders but i was thinking that using it once would top them out. I don't want to mess the turbo up though.
-
Anyone tried using Restore in their sube's? I've heard it works real good and am considering it.

i bought the fan off of ebay. It is from partsfinder. My buddy got one for his honda and said it worked great. It's called a reversible HP thin electric fan or something along those lines. Just look up 12" electric fan on ebay and it should pop up. THere are a lot of them.
