Did some work, same problems.

I would have to state with 100% certainty, that it is time for you to do a compression test. yes, a bad HG will cause loss of power, most noticable until it warms up, When metal warms up it expands, and can mask the headgasket issue for power loss, but if you are losing coolant, yeah. compression test this. it will tell you if you have a bad hg and is a good way to tell the overall health on your engine. -
82 EA-81 fuel delivery problem

fuel pressure on ea81 non fuel injected 1.5 to 2.5 psi as mentioned. -
if you pull if out with torque converter attached, be very careful with the angles of the tranny to bellhousing. You will need to undo the dogbone pitch stopper, and actually jack up the bottom of the tranny as you pull up on the engine to clear the motor mound studs. you don't want to have a lot of pressure wieght difference, binding from the transmission on the snout of the trans input shaft. You need to be very careful that ll is secure when you separate the 2. Don't booger up the tran input shaft when you slide off the TC, and also thereas a circlip that you will most likely end up destroying this method, so you will need a new one of those or a non damaged circlip to the TC. good luck

What is this?

the car pictured is not a 98. If that pictured car is the one they are selling for that price, its a steal, go get it and don't argue because they are pricing it for what a 98 would be. don't look back, take cash and drive it home. -
I assume this is a 1992 EJ22? your engine is non-interference so you will not damage much by doing this. take your spark plugs out, and set them aside. get a 22mm socket and ratchet to fit the center crank bolt pulley. Turn backwards to see if you can turn it the wrong direction to get to the TC bolts thru the access hole. I like to use a little snap-on 1/4 drive ratchet with short socket to get the TC bolts out, and i use a little cheater bar to snap them loose.

I tend to agree its a vaccum leak somewhere, either a cracked vac hose, or a loose fitting vac hose, or as mentioned, the intake gasket is bad somewhere, letting lots of air in there, and the boggy issue. Also, you said you removed a spring from the throttle body. that spring most certainly was there for a reason, you need to get a shop manual, and find out WHERE that spring goes, and put it back. I cannot tell you how finicky these are without the correct parts on there. -
What's an '86 BRAT worth?

no comment, at least you have non rusted ones all over there its a dime a dozen around your neck of the woods, ones that aren't a safety hazard due to frame that is rotted/MIA. shipping cost of 900 from west coast is no biggie that is all we can do to get one decent, otherwise we can get rusty ones that are totally not safe, dangerous, etc. -
this loud bang you heard, can you describe a little more. sounds like it may have killed your trans. usually, loud bangs are not a good thing.

is it possible its a single heater core, but with 2 valves. reason being, they did make a dual climate control model hvac system, and that would probably have 2 valves, one for each side in the passenger compartment. Now, on a non dual climate control model, maybe it still has 2 valves but they operate in unison, and maybe that 2nd valve is not working?????? maybe your lever, rod, acuator came loose from the one valve, or maybe the one valve is stuck. I do not even know if there are 2 valves, but could very well be.

Distilled water is the term. when you go to the store, they have bottle of "drinking' water and then there will be bottles of "distilled" water. Its the distilled that you want for mixing with antifreeze. clear? Or, if you are cheap like me, and you run a dehumidifier to remove moisture in the home, the water which is pulled into the dehumidifier will also be the same as distilled. I dont know why anyone buys premixed antifreeze Price wise, a gallon of antifreeze that is straight antifreeze, non mixed, is priced exactly the same as the gallon of premixed. so, for an extra 79Cents (cost of a gallon of distilled water) you get double the antifreeze that is usable for only a few cents extra.

you did not state the year and model. if its a 91-94 legacy, they should have backlight on when lights are on, and they also have the in use light when pressed on. 2 lights. you did not mention a year, so I cannot help with anything else, and nobody else can help either. PLEASE state model and year.

If you bought what you thought was a mercedes, but then opened the hood and saw a KIA motor in there, would you try to get your money back. Contact the person you bought it from, tell him/her you were misled, and ask for your money back. You might be out the shipping, but oh well, get your money back on this.
