put in the TransX additive. My brothers recently acquired 99 outback had the 30 second delay when going from Park to D and the additive fixed it in about 20 minutes time. cost about6.50 its in the blue can in the stores. the particular 1999 model year of outback did this delayed engagement, and the solution is this additive http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=87708 for all your toilet reading time fun.

Which LSD to use - can they be tested?
bheinen74 replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i wonder when the DEA will drop in here based on the thread title -
I "think" that the OB springs are longer. The reason I think this is because the FOR is based on the Impreza chassis and they are usually a shorter, smaller breed. But, since they are Legos, still works,...now, the Tribeca, thats a different animal but even it may work.

New fix for 4 speed shifter slop.
bheinen74 replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Transmission, Axle, and Brakes
also, the top of the bolt head that is towards the tranny case may need be filed so it does not hit the case. On mine, the bolt head hit the case enough to prevent hitting 4th and reverse easily. And, all mine, the lower bushing and rubber sleeve is where the slop was, the roll pins were tight, it was the bushing that was the ENTIRE problem. I spent the time to tap out as listed above, and it was still slop, no better. Then i found the lower bushing MIA. I would have never had to tap that if i would have known. -

there would be no reason to get under these at this point, due to the rust. Nothing under there is worth reusing, unless you like tissue paper thin metals on your driver. They were most likely already rusted when he put them there to begin with (this is the midwest guys) the only reason we park them like this is when they rust in half from salt. -

somebody around here has over 50 BRATS in a yard....... -
Are you using premium gas at all fill ups? If not, just doing that wll do more than increasing timing, which should be set at factory specs, +/- 2 to be safe. Most people want more performance, but arent willing to pay the price of premium gas. higher octane does not detonate as easliy, and is safer for your engine. Use premium if you don't

What's wrong with Fram oil filters??
bheinen74 replied to TheLoyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I install them and remove them by hand. always check to make sure the o-ring is on the old filter after removal (dont want it stuck on the pump when installing the new filter), and always smear a finger of oil on the new oring all around it. Keeps it from sticking to the oil pump surface for next oil change.. the pictures on the prev page show why FRAM is GARBAGE. Pictures tell the truth, anyone can argue otherwise, but i see it in the pictures. -
its not the dealerships fault for not knowing anything about a crappy aftermarket alarm that they are not supposed to have to mess with. Why do you expect them to know anything about a crappy aftermarket alarm? Where would they get training on fixing something that does not belong in their car. Sounds like they still fixed it. If i was working on a car with a non-oem alarm, i would demand it to be unsinstalled, at the owners expense. That would have fixed the problem, minus the fuel pump eh.

Check out my subaru replacement

Make sure you have 4 matched tires. Long story short...my Dad worked at a Chevrolet dealership as mechanic for 40 years. There was another mechanic at the garage there, who did an alignment on one of these and noticed the tires were getting worn, so the dealership sold and installed 2 new tires on the van. shortly after, the customer came back and the transmission was toast, but the van was still under warranty. So the Chevrolet dealer ordered new warranty tranny, and installed it. About 2 weeks later, same customer came back, that tranny had gone bad. So, they installed another thinking it was just a bad one from the factory. Well, about 2 weeks again pass and they come back, again, tranny is toast.......They got to looking and noticed the 2 new tires on back.....which they had put on there......Dealership did not KNOW about AWD systems, as they are rare indeed for a Chevrolet in that era. Guess what, they learned.....Make sure all 4 tires match...same as a subie. -

coolant can go 3 places. out the pipe on the ground on your floorboard. if its on the ground, keep your pets away from where you park. -
vehicle must be lifted first:)
