Rock Auto or 1st Subaru
bheinen74 replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah the cost savings of parts thru rock auto is eaten away by the high shipping. whereas jason ships everything for a rate of like 9 or 11 rockauto is faster to receive but when its all said and done, I think the prices are about the same due to the high shipping costs of RA -
Weber Carb install has begun on my BRAT
bheinen74 replied to bheinen74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just an update. After calculating the corrected mileage reading, I have figured my mileage at 24.0 mpg will update if that changes, but so far, with my 205/75/15 27.5 inch tires, and its dead on at 24mpg. This calculation is with just over 600 miles of driving since the Weber install. just did about 140 on it today. its ready for a long trip now...... -
Another Newbie with '82 Subie (Brat)
bheinen74 replied to SueBee2's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
nice i want to see the pics. a less then 90k miles 82 torridor red brat is worth a lot. -
first off, when you say you got half way thru the job then put it back together...... can you elaborate on that some more. Did you have a gap between the engine and transmission housing? If you did pull it apart some, had you unbolted the flexplate to torque converter bolts thru the access hole? If you did anything i am talking about on the above, and you did not properly seat the torque converter to the snout of the tranny, then ATF fluid is not even an issue a that point. You may be in over your head, or maybe not, but we need alot more info than you have provided. are you sure you are not putting the ATF down the gear oil tube?

get the 192 we need that for the winter temps we get here or you will never have warm heat and you will not be able to defrost the ice on your windows. -

the part here on the thermostat means do not go with a beck arnley therm. please get a subaru OEM therm, not the one from rock auto. Need to get this at the dealer. -

even a tire with a bad belt or a sub-par tire with belt issues can cause a pull. I would assume you have tried to rotate the tires as well, to see if the pull follows a tire? Okay, let me know if you have done the tire rotation. and yes cars are designed and aligned to slightly venture off to the right, for safety. Also, roads with more crown on it affect alignment subtleties. Interstates are crowned more than state roads. around here, I ask for my aligment to be adjusted for less crowned state roads. So, when i do hop on the freeway, the crown makes my cars pull more , that is to my liking, as my cars drive perfect on the state roads.

also, this job would be relatively quick if you just drill into the floor. I did not put a single new hole in my floorpans, and used all 4 of the factory mount holes on the floor, creating new seat brackets to match those original holes on like 3 of the 4 seat brackets. I did have to cut some of the side sill plate..... aah, holes......

and when i mentioned the door comes close, its mainly the arm rest of the door where it can be pressed against the side part of the seat back. My armrests will touch the side if the seat is in a certain position, otherwise it is not a problem, just be aware to watch this area. If i have the passenger seat folded forward for when i put my smaller dog back behind the seat, then the armrest hits for sure with the seat folded foward while its slid forward for the room for doggy, door still closed but has some pressure on it. I am w/o camera now, its lost, otherwise i would put some pics up of the mounts and stuff.

I probably lost about 2-3 inches headroom too. I am 6ft tall, and I wish they sat a little lower, but there was no way to do it, given the thickness of the bottom cushion, and the power mechanisms. Also, the side bolster is pretty close to the door when closed, and the upper side is close to the frame of the body. The headrests limit slider motion all the way back. All in all, it works quite well but it too time to consider all this in making brackets. For wiring, I left the airbag connectors loose. The wiring for the heated portion i have that goes from the seat connector to the switches. Then there is wiring from the switches which I joined together at the fuse box for "rear defrost/unused". I had to wire in both power adjust and the heated portion, and i think there was a purple wire if i remember, and a blue wire, and then ground. I think one of the wires was power for seat movement, and the other was for the heat. At first i placed a 15 amp fuse, but found it would blow if i had the heated seat switches on and tried to move the power adjustment at the same time. I then decided a 20 amp works for it all. I have no relays for this.

Removing truck fenders that aren't bolted on?
bheinen74 replied to idosubaru's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
:Flame:zzz:banghead: when you damage a fender, they assume you will buy a new one, not fix it. is it totaled? -
91-94 legacy's mount the ECU up above the fusebox above the hood release up by the column, that was a great place.

Brat just got out of door handle surgery. I used the pitted but non-cracked one from the passenger side of my parts Brat. Surgery went well. I am going to be off in recovery at the Pour House having a cold one. bh -

surgery on the door handle begins soon....... -
my Oreilly's auto had nothing at all for my Brat, no fuel hoses in the correct size, no vacuum lines of the correct size/length, no coolant lines, etc etc. They are worthless. I ordered coolant hose off Ebay, and found the breather hoses in the Ag fertilizer section of a farm and home store (Theisens).
