  1. i dont want to talk to the boss, I will just get more work. but. I am interested in: Roll bar for 85 Brat that has intact jumpseats/belts, etc. need to clear a high topper. Roobar/deer guard for a 99 outback-one deer hit is enough on that car. something with tubular steel that doesn't look pickup sized. hmmm.
  2. If this shop is reputable (not sounding that way so far) then I would recommend replace the oring for the dipstick tube holder, the ring where it mounts to the tranny. that one almost always leaks after some time.
  3. this is the 4th Ej22T i have had in my possession. The other 2 were sold in cars they came with, and I still have a good one in my 92SS. I have decided if I find them with low miles, i am going to buy them.
  4. newer filters are smaller. reason, smaller is cheaper. still sell for the same price, but cost less to make, so the company has more profit. The larger filters do a better job, so that is a sign the previous owner went for the better of the 2. I know you said you generally use FRAM. IMO FRAM is crap. Put on a OEM, Nippon, Puralator or Napa Gold, those are much better than a FRAM.
  5. VERY GOOD INFO< THIS MOD WONT WORK WITH THe STOCK AIR CLEANER BOX/HITACHI.....the kidney bean thing is too large and in the way note to others...took 3 pages of threads for some real info. thanks TheYeti.
  6. make sure the fuse in the fuse box labeled ignition/coil is inserted securely. Mine can be in place with a good fuse, but it has to have it just right for the contact. How did i figure this out? when i installed the weber, I was messing around with the choke wires and the extra 2 plugs that used to be on the hiachi grounded out and blew my fuse for coil/ignition. I put in a new fuse, but sill no spark. that was when i could see how the fuse can be sort of sideways and make no connection to the fusebox terminal.
  7. cant be too many more of these left. moosens was the last one i knew of, and now this one. Gosh these things are dying like the celebs are..better enjoy them while they are still around. i sure wish subaru stayed by their old motto i see on youtube of being priced low, the new ones are so outrageously priced, thats why i like and stay with the old cars.
  8. not to burst a bubble but even on the 1991-1994 legacy, subaru front end between FWD and AWD was different at least the axles were different the reason is the FWD axles were actually beefier than the AWD axles. Not sure how that correlates to the control arms, but even he control arms on the newer ones were different. the higher end models (usually the AWD models) had an extra stabilizer bar bracket, which the mount bracket was absent on the control arm of lower models. I would guess similar for this question.
  9. also, the crew from CO hang out a lot on http://www.awdpirates.net/forums/
  10. without the discount dealers above, I would find my ownership of Subarus in the decline status. Thanks to the discount parts dealers.
  11. out of all the cars to use a CVT, the Subaru is going to be the hardest on them due to the AWD and the extra wear due to that fact. I bet in 10 years, people are looking for D/R to swap in place of the CVT They are nice and smooth when new though. good idea if it works for the long haul
  12. yeah just in the past year or so, the cost of the materials, cost of paint has skyrocketed. literally, paint for a vehicle used to cost like 100 or so. Now, the paint alone and thinners etc are going to be about 700 bucks, then you have primer cost, masking tape, sandpaper, etc. clearcoat, etc. I think its due to the osha laws, and environmental costs of stuff, remember paint materials are bad for the enviro, so they make us pay these days. If you guys haven't checked around recently on paint cost, you will be shocked like i was. I can see 5g these days for show cars, yes. I can see normal cars around 1500 + just a fender paint is gonna run 200 bucks + hood paint 300~ so yeah. Connie I hope you have more pics of progress, this stuff takes a lot of time to do right, you seem to be coming along steadily. keep it up.
  13. nice score. I like the 91's. I just pulled a ej22t from a pick n pull 92 car showing 85,300 on the odo. it was an automatic car, think the tranny gave out on it. these are super rare indeed.
  14. cars like that jar the heck out of me, i won't ride in one. terrible ride quality. also, we get snow here, that just would not be practical in any way shape or form. to each his own. oh, and one pothole and your car is totaled. pull in a low drive, totaled.
  15. the turbo engine has a turbo specific water pump cuase it has outlets for the cooling tubes to the turbo. You cannot use a non turbo water pump on a turbo engine. But you can do it vice versa if you cap off the coolant lines off the turbo pump on a non turbo engine I have on a shelf a new water pump for turbo engine I bought a while back. I think i paid like 70 for the pump which is a steal. I can sell it since you need it. otherwise, I think the ej18 / ej22 belts and pulleys are the same, its the pump that has to be for turbo engine.
  16. I have the same thing sitting out back from my 92SS. driver side front, would not budge even with a press. its seized...... I found a good one at a junkyard, axle was new, and hub was good. installed it. The thing is, my axle on the seized one just needs a boot.
