going from a Acura to a Subaru is going to have its share of disappoinments, by this I mean Subarus will need maintenance, they have things go wrong with them, unlike your Acura. When they first started selling Acuras in the states, the Acura dealers got a big disappointment, in the only services they got in their shops were oil changes and brakes, tire rotations. There were no other services to do, nothing went wrong with them, they were a great car. Service centers did not keep busy. So they just kept selling more and more Acuras. Good car. Subarus, have all kinds of little things go wrong, some big. You will enjoy the AWD and safety, and all the good stuff of why we all like Subaru. Once you have the AWD you won't go back. But there will be maintenance items for sure, whereas your Acura probably had none. Do not get a pre 2003 2.5 engine outback. If you go with a pre 2003 car, get the one with the 2.2 engine. If you go with a 2003 and newer, get the H6 or even the 2.5 after 2003

good luck. when i lifted my Brat 4" i had to eventually cut the shift rod in half (my first atempt was just to heat bend the shift lever rod that resulted in a very weak and evenutally broken lever), and weld it back with a side offset and different angle, so as to clear the 4wd linkage, and so i could hit 2nd 4th and reverse. reverse was the most difficult to figure out, then i had to make sure the shift nob wouldn't bump the radio on off switch when in first gear. I think we welded the lever so it was just to the left of where it was originially that way i could throw it in reverse and the bottome portion missed the 4wd linkage. Also had to pull out the 4wd linkage rod, and welded a angle bracket around 3" with a tilt to it and then drilled a hole for the attachment bolt to tranny on.

basically your car is mostly optionless. I always thought the "leftmost" plug and hole was for the center lamp. My BRAT parts car had the center lamp switch there, that is why it is covered with a black plug on the other models..? I may be wrong, but why would they put the center lamp switch on the right, over by the wiper switch. It was by the light switch, ON THE LEFT. GD i think i taught something to you, although i think you are mostly 99.9% correct on all others.

wish i could come. The Subaru dealerships around here in my State all suck ( there are 3 dealers within a 250 mile circle) I went in a few years ago to one and asked about the spec B, they never even heard of it. then I asked if they would be getting a lgt, they said nope, whats that. lol have fun and have a couple mugs for me at Hooters afterward

looks good, no rust, already swapped in the 5spd D/R, this is a good little car. trade for a rusty old BRAT that has started to get stripped?

maybe you have really worn shocks, and the combo of the bigger tire hitting into obstacles. What tire pressure also? I consider you a wheeler level way above my few times out, but I dont want to be doing this to mine so i want to learn from the benefit of you bending them. Please followup on this more.

on full suspension compression, are you sure its not hitting on the frame rail or that thing that hangs down which has the brake line routed thru

nah (it is in the pic) but, i cleaned it last night will get some more pics this evening. its shiny again. also, noticed my Hitachi choke assembly cover was really loose, hmmm, that could have beeen part of the craptachi issue.....oh well, this will make the car much better. -
the deer hit 99 obw my brother bought had the passenger side belt off a few teeth like this. Didnt even have to remove the belt or tensioner to reset the timing to correct. It did not bend the valves, runs great. When the deer hit the car, it drove the radiator and fans back enough to rub into the t belt cover, but no other damage to the sprockets or anything. when the auction sight started the car to run it into auction, the belts and stuff were squeeling at that time and that probably when it jumped. the idler pulley for AC was pushed into the fornt cover just enough, and the way the belts were riding, the extra tension on the belt probably jumped it a few. all is good now
