wouldn't it be better for Subaru to just fix the problem, instead of a band-aid magic blue bottle fix. I mean come on, they didn't need this conditioner back in 1992 on their engines. ^if this is their solution, then that is pretty low. engineers get paid big bucks, they otta fix the HG problems. I bet the old subie engineers laugh at the new ones who can't seem to get it right.

85 BRAT exhaust with lift redo
bheinen74 replied to bheinen74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
okay its all done now. cut off the oem after the y pipe, 1/8" larger than stock tubing tucked back up into the body, re-using the stock midpipe resonator, then new 1/8" larger than stock pipe, going into the stock muffler. tucked up nicely. cost 99 plus tax, 106.xx total too bad this will only be useful for a few years, then the ej22t swap will need some 3" in about 4 years now, still need to locate 32/36 -
one of 3 things speedometer cable came unhooked from the back of speedometer behind dash speedometer end assembly base that screws into the top of the transmission is malfuncitoning/worn out the speedo driven gear or speedo drive gear INSIDE the transmission has succumbed to the age, miles, heat and it stripped, cracked, or simply broke. It is made of a nylon type plastic, and they can in time fail. Mine did this, as well as once each of the other 2 things above.

drive in an old clunker loyal wagon, when they ask if that is your trade, say NO, that your friend is buying it for 4500 dollars, and you are selling it to them as soon as you get the new car to replace it. Then talk about pricing on the new car.. when you get them under msrp, then they might bring the old, lets see about maybe we could take your car for trade to get a better price. When they step aside and say, well, we could give you about 3200 for that old clunker, say deal.

on the resonator, keep it or remove? what have other done. -
Have an appointment at the muffler shop tomorrow to pull the exhaust back up nice and close to the body, since my 4" lift dropped it down. What advice should I tell the muffler guy. I am not really getting a total new exhaust, mine is still good, just needs fastened back up out of the way and not hang so low. What did you guys do to put it back up toward the body after a lift kit? I stopped for a quick estimate today, and he asked if the middle section was a cat or a resonator. I think the CAT is up front, and it would be a resonator, should i ax that resonator if I can ? please advise by the AM. thanks

Today i drove the rescue wagon to Chicago and back, 600 miles roundtrip. LEft my house at 7:30 AM, got back about 9:45PM. Picked up my 3 SVX wheels that i ebay bought for 9.99, had some GIARDANOS famous stuffed crust pizza, wathched some of the cubs game on TV at the pizza place, stopped at IKEA, and Frys Electronics (looked for a cb and antenna, think that must be old technology, they had nothing of the sort that i could find). got 28.9mpg there, and about 25.5 mpg on the way back, head wind alittle, and extra weight etc. No problems, but about 8 miles from home on the way back a big rock/clod of dirt (about the size of a softball) fell off a pickup in front of me on interstate causing a loud THUD front of car. I inspected after getting home, and I think it cracked my grill right in the center abouve the Subaru badge. tired, long day. Rescue wagon is getting some good use.

well i have never really ever heard of a bad alternator alone causing a current draw......WIRING TO IT, yeah it can cause a current draw, but not the alternator itself, when the car is off, its not even activated. doubt that is the issue, this is most likely a WIRING issue, and probably related to the digi dash, or a guage that was added of some sort. Basically, its a electrical wiring issue. Some HOT wire, is pinched somewhere and grounding, causing the draw...soon it could cause a fire, hence my earlier post to see if you have full coverage. There was a guy in Iowa with a 76k mile BRAT went up in flames, due to wiring issue, that ws due to rodents though.. thats my 2 cents on this at this time.

Finally getting my parents into a Subaru. There was a rebuilder auction last night, and apparently I won a 09 Legacy I sedan with 3250 miles on it, had a front hit, airbags not deployed, needs a hood, grill bumper, and radiator and a few miscellaneous things, and the title is Clear. It was 6500 bucks, unless they deny my bid, I won and they sent me invoice so pretty sure its a done deal. wish me luck.

going rate for gen 1 brat?
bheinen74 replied to milkman111083's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
i generally think the going rate is the 600 cost to ship one here (since they don't exist in my area) , plus about 1000 or more vehicle purchase cost, way dependant on the condition of body and drivetrain and if it runs or not. ...... hopefully get one for less than 1800 shipped, but could easily see paying 4000 for a nice one then the shipping cost. does it have jumpseats does it have body work before does it have any rust toppper/BRAT hat roll bars etc rats living in it (thats a no no for me) -

hvac controls on EA81's

sounds cool but my BRAT has AC, although the belt is disconnected for it at the moment. What other solutions? -
Just bought a '84 Subaru GL - Pics Inside =)

Wonder why the bumpers are chromed. Thought they went to plastic bumpers in 83, that the 82 was last year of chromed bumpers. The grill is a 84+ bumpers 82- otherwise i think it looks sweet, nice and straight and good paint -
Just wondering where everyone keeps there hvac control set when there is no need for heat, AC, or defrost. Is there an off setting? like now, in spring, i need no heat, no ac, no defrost. I guess i put the slide lever on the heat setting but temp control to cold. Makes no sense to have it set to heat, when its summer , but guess subaru wants us to have it on heat...

that coil spring, without a inner structure, does not look safe. Have you ever taken mehanical ink pen apart, and removed the spring from the ink can, stretch it out some, then squeeze it together? it goes shooting off somewhere. same thing here, no support structure, and when it gets compressed, see ya spring, mia. Maybe i a foobar wrong on this, but that would be the way i think.
