  1. cool car but pretty hard to find parts for at the junkyards, and if you are in Iowa, they don't exist and the dealer won't know what it is. You say sir, you have a S OO B A R OOOO, X, teee what..... same as SVX. I couldn't really keep mine cause no parts to keep it going
  2. unplug vac advance hose, plug hose with something while checking timing. that is how it is done. probably know that, but just in case, here it is.
  3. Dennis's brown wagon still running fine with the ea81 from ski wagon in it. My Brat is non lifted now, running, but with oil leak i need to addressm either rear main or else oil pan or ?? Ben's Guido is now lifted, but hanging out with McBrat, unknown to when or if it will be revived. McBrat, where was he again.:-\
  4. I will offer my hatchie in the next few weeks if I get my leads on the next one. Ohio is not that far away, and amtrak runs from Chicago to here. So if my leads turn up, and you were interested then you would take amrtak here I would make sure you got it back there to your home. only had it for 2 months, but have already driven 2k miles on it. It is a good one. Or I would consider driving it there for a fee of my gas, my amtrak back, and a meal.
  5. yes. Firstly, the 2005+ headgaskets leak oil, externally. There is not risk if you keep the oil level inspected. As far as I know, it is not coolant that leaks past the gasket, only oil, and it leaks outside the block. Many people have had to repalce them and it seems the 85k-95k mark is where they show up. Better than overheating due to loss of coolant like the old ones. Better than that. Keep eye on oil, deal with the burning smell, or else, fix them. They will leak again even with new OEM Subaru gaskets. Subaru NEVER did figure out the EJ25 block/heads for the headgasket design. Hence, you will see new engines from Subaru, the new FB block is going to be better. Sorry had to be blunt Some "bad" shops will purposely poke, rip, knife axle boots for a job that pays well in labor.
  6. yep, the seal outer and inner is what protects the bearing from outside contaminants getting in. Always. would be like changing a timing belt and reusing the water pump etc. that is no no. new seals. yes. that shop failed, cross them off the repeat customer list.
  7. oh, on the chisel, mark the camber adjuster bolt shoulder head with the chisel. chisel it at your favorite clock position, or chisel it with something else for refefence and then also spray paint the entire knuckle before taking anything apart.....then you have 2 places to check on reassembly, your chisel mark on the bolt, and the paint marking edge. you could also chisel both bolt heads and make them in line with a straight edge. course there will be a top and a down on the camber adjustment bolt.. Good thread, hope to help out others.
  8. that will work with levels etc. Or you can be even quicker and use a chisel, along with spray paint...
  9. yeah; awesome. Same, my dad can take broken bits and make them drill better than new with his bench grinder. He was a mechanic professionally for 41 years at the same GM garage though. He can take pretty much any bit and make it sharp. He gave me a drill doctor, cause it was never beneficial to him, they don't sharpen as well as his self ability with a grinding wheel, eye/hand/feel.\ It is really only the very tip end blades that do the cutting, and once you get that down to how, no biggy, I wish i would learn someday. Maybe i will ask him for a session of doing some of my old bits that i tend to ruin. He also gave me a bench grinder on a stand. I used the drill doctor once, but it is a pain to figure out, i would rather know how to use the grinder wheel.
  10. BOSCH. best i have used..made in Germany. And, a drill bit sharpener....
  11. I have always just borrowed my dads engine hoist in the past times. Real hassle to do the borrow. He lives 7 miles away one way. He always has to move stuff to get it out so i can load it up. Mower, toe machine, other mower, tiller, car, etc.......Then I would have to take it apart, load in my Brat or wagon, then when i got home with it, assemble it. Then after I got done using it, had to disassemble, load, drive 7 miles, unload, assemble, move crap out of the way... So, today I got one. I got a foldable one that the legs either fold up or come off. Way easy to store it, and no more hassle. whew. I can rent/loan it or will allow others to use as needed too. The other day i sold a ej22 longblock, would have been nice to have one then. Lots of times they are handy. now i can fix my BRAT oil leak when i feel like it.
  12. I had an instance when i couldnt get one in too. So i grabbed my other spare and it was ok....
  13. sounds sketchy for sure, but will wait for further info. Most people take paypal, only reason to not have paypal is if your account got suspended due to non shipment, too many violations. Paypal is like ebay, if you have good standings you have a account. WHY can't this person have paypal? probably a reason, either normal or bad, but I would be waiting to see... if legit, I will buy a set of these go have hangin around the garage, who know when the next rusty hunk comes up needing some. But, RED flag of caution when no paypal.......unless he is a "old school" guy and i would see that.
  14. yeah 90-94 models have the manual button,.. you should go find similar hill of ice, put it in 3 and press manual on. Car will start off in 2nd gear and you will be doing better than most cars on the road, just as good s those who were ahead of you.
  15. will the 33" spare fit in the spare tire area? looking nice.
  16. first off, do you have a EA81 or EA82 Cause you mention changing timing belt. That is not even possible on a EA81
  17. you know you need to change gas tanks too, unless it has a lift kit. The AWD tank has a hump where the drive shaft goes...
  18. on the auto's pressing the manual button ON, forces the car to start in 2nd gear from stop, when in 3rd. will not spin the wheels as much.
  19. In the US there is only a very small tiny percentage of the population who would buy and drive a small light car, even if gas doubles in price (which it could). The large percentage of the population who will only drive a large heavy beast are the ones who simply complain gas is too high, but they do nothing about trying to conserve. That is the reason small cars don't sell here, further proof of the dumbing of the population. Most people don't even consider mpg when they buy.. They want fast, power, and something the size of a yacht. The new impreza has TONS of rear seat legroom. But the overall length of the car is far too long for my taste.
  20. ?? ?? no link provided how can i say yes or no okay yes , YES. NO if they cost x then yes if they cost x then no if yes then no get the size that is right>
