you are going to quickly find that ordering the RIGHT parts for these older one's is getting harder and harder to do every year we tick along. some are no longer available even with generic brands. heater core, forget it, heater valve, windshield gasket, oil pump, certain electronics, nothing. all sheetmetal repair. The EA81 is just too old and nobody kept them to have a demand for parts big enough for them to produce parts.

leave the seats in. flip the bottom cushion forward, then fold the seat backs down then fold the carpet in the back toward and over the folded seats. the fuel pump cover is the oval one on the passenger side (usa passenger side right) the side f the car with fuel filler just behind the seat hinge in the cargo area remoevr four screws and lift up the oval cover plate. spray the 7-8 nuts with pb blaster let soak, cause the studs will snap no matter what. You will likely only save 3 or 4 studs from snapping off, that will be okay for reassembly, but not ideal try to not snap them off. think they are 8 or 10mm nut. spray with rust penantrant. soak with rust penantrant remove 3 fuel lines after loosening the clamps unplug the wire connector, tuck under and to the side. pull up and out the pump, sender unit assembly, it needs to be twisted and maneuverd up and out, fuel sock will need to be folded some.

any slight engine miss/roughness due to those are greatly exacerbated thru the trans, especially when it is in lockup mode. your trans is fine, well just normal slushbox, you got some sensor that is weak. Probably could use new plugs NGK and new OEM plug wires. That might create a random misfire that isn't happening all the time with any consistency.

They didn't have parts inventory for computers back in 1983. My dealer pulled out the paper book, and got part numbers from it. I ordered 100 bucks worth of BRAT transmission parts from my local dealer who adds 10% to retail. Those same parts could have been purchased online if i had the part numbers for only 40 bucks. Yes my dealer adds to retail price on parts.

I think a sticky about headgaskets and what to look for by year should be added, you know, for the new 2005+. By now, the info about the dohc 2.5 should be known, but not enough people know the 2005 sohc 2.5 N/A has headgasket fail of oil leaking, i say leaking because a weep is just the initial stage to leak, then to drips.

Question about topper seal
bheinen74 replied to KNOPPER's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
there are numerous threads and all end with someone claiming to just use garage door seals. But i have yet to see someone report back with that and post pics. Well, that is how they end, and you know what, i have looked at garage door seals and various other seals, and nothing really fits the application. Not the right way. -
he had a phone number listed, maybe call TOO before he kills that shell.

I would suggest buy this and swap over to it. http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/pts/2866472732.html lots, not all, on the West Coast don't appreciate these things at all. They cut them up out there for who knows why?

We own stock in PB Blaster in this part of the country. You would be a fool to not own stock in it.
