Rust.... and work on Mtn Grizzly
bheinen74 replied to mcbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I honestly don't see much rust Mick. Those on the west coast wouldnt drive it like that, but for here, that is nothing to even talk about really. cheers -
all i read was FRAM part of the first sentence, and i skipped right to the post i am saying now, FRAM is junk. its the worst filter you can buy. It can and might kill your engine. Also I will post, jiffylube, etc will also do the same they use the cheapest crap filters (fram) and hirer undecated underacheivers who will blow your motor up eventually, it has been proven over and over and over again do not use FRAM, do not go to grease monkey, meineke, AAmco, etc. done with my typing

Parking pall
bheinen74 replied to jrt2nd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
the parking pall is a metal rod, pretty long. It can get out of place when you separate the tailshaft, like when you rebuild the clutch packs. The parking pall is NOT electronic, its a rod, and when it goes out of place, you need to separate the tailshaft of the rear output from the front diff. You need to go back and demand they fix it. i have accidently put one together and the little spring clip holding it into slot fell out of place. ITs not hard to get it wrong. Its way easy to fix, many many labor units involved though. they goofed up. but, check your electrical plugs going to the tranny first. If they are not seated firmly, you can get same type result not going into park or out of park etc. been there too. -
Have any of you been lurking on the other boards before your new car purchases? Apparently there is an upcoming TSB to address the "shakers" that Subaru has recently produced. Anyone have any thoughts, and in general what do you think the quality of Subaru has turned to? It does seem that people are really getting turned away by some of the more recent issues. Same as the engine problems the Legacy GT and impreza had. I sure love my older ones but have not so much been able to justify saying the same on the newer ones which my family has had. thanks Brent

went from this broken trim piece to this after removal, fiberglass bondo, and paint (painted and fiberglassed on the kitchen counter/bathroom for paint. the paint match is darn near perfect, some leftover duplicolor wheel paint i had laying around, over top of several good primer coats, then 2 coats of clear. Its hard to not tell it was painted. pulled out the broken rear stabilizer endlink here installed the new one ( i got a set of 2 new in the suabaru pakage off ebay 2 of these for 12 bucks that includes shipping) removed the non working radio and installed this which i scored off ebay for 39 shipped (its the 6disc with cassette from a 03 wrx) only to find out i still had no sound, so dig into the door panels, and all speakers are non functional, so i installed a pair of polk audio's i had laying around in the front doors, and just bought a 22 dollar set of new pioneers on ebay that will go in the rear doors. all in a non heated garage in the very cold of about 23 degrees.

2005-2009 models had suspension problems from the get go when they had 0 miles. go over to http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/ and join there. honestly, in my most honest opinion, the 2005+ legacy/outback is garbage, when comparing to the older ones. SOA was too busy trying to correct hg issues and never spent quality time, or put quality components into them. Your previous 7 Subaurs were of good quality i bet, so i would be complaining to the dealer

maybe they've rigged a pulley spool on the back axle shaft and just have to engage it when needed to wind the cable. but, knowing how crazy the russians are, i bet they "Vise-gripped" the cable to the axle lol...... no offense to the russ's, i wish i had a russian wife sometimes lol

still havent seen any dates on the 2011 forester with this new engine? It is coming out mid year? is it on a delay due to working out "bugs" of the new engine. Is it even coming out in 2011. Seems they are really behind right now and no word on when the vehicle is for sale. not even in the main magazines. one more month in the year 2010, and all other makes have the 2011 models out. maybe it wont be here til late spring, making it a 2012 model?

New Guy, Is an '82 Brat worth $2500
bheinen74 replied to allanbegg's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
yes rust on the rocker panels, and bad rust up under the front door frame area directly under where the door meets the fronts fenders on the curved frame rails you need to look under the car, stick your head up under the door area near the front tire and look up. also rust at the rear shock mounts to the wheel wells, if you look into the bed and see bubbled rust, rot over the wheel wells, its a gonner. be prepared to spend a thousand or so just on: carb rbuild or replace ball joints brakes water pump gaskets clutch cooling system stuff, heater, thermostat, hoses belts axles or boots bearings exhaust interior electrical stuff etc etc -
Adding heated windshield to 02 OB
bheinen74 replied to Ionlyhave3suubs's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I had a heated windshield once in a car. It is a joke. What happens, is it actually "cooks" your windshield wiper blades. -

Confirming front diff gear ratios?
bheinen74 replied to ghost's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yes do this; or look for the stamping on the ring. 37 teeth its a 3.7 39 teeth its a 3.9 41 teeth its a 4.1 etcetcetc but for sure its stamped onto the ring when you look at one. -
thats the truth. A few years ago, some cities around here replaced the traffic stoplights with new LED versions. Well, you can't see the red and green in direct sunlight, and the places that converted have admitted that when its snowing, the leds version do not melt the snow off, and the lights cannot be seen. Its a traffic hazard going to LED on stoplights, same if you do your car that way.

in 1995 and after, the stickers are no longer used. -
not as bright, cost LOTS more, and don't really last quite as long as they are advertised to last. test for you 2 do: go buy 2 regular bulb maglites of the same model number, and enough new batteries of the same brand for use in both lights at the same time. Buy the led updgrade bulb and place in one new unit, and new batteries then go out and test for yourself you will see.

save up for the routine EJ25 headgasket job and all associated stuff. about 450-550 worth of parts by the time you figure new T belt, water pump, tensioner pulleys, valve cover gaskets, grommits, and the new headgaskets, rear separtator cover, and some cam seals. Labor is a lot too on top of just the parts price.
