and another side note, the very first years of airbags have been determined to be way too far explosive for average people-by the NHTSA. At the tme, thats what they thought was best. Later years at NHTSA they determined they NEEDED to make them WAY less explosive of forceful ness, as people were getting killed when they went off and fractured skulls, necks etc..... The "Today" cars have safe airbags, but it took them a while to figure it out. Thats why cars now have airbags all over, they act as pillows now, pillows for your head, your ears, your knees, your shoulders, and your arms. Pretty soon, we will be driving pillow balls. No recalls, sorry. They expect most cars to be off the road soon with the dangerous ones installed. edumacate us more NHTSA. Why doesnt the NHTSA require airbags, or even seat belts for school buses??????thats a thought to ponder. If they want to save more lives, require ONLY 5 point harness, thats what NASCAR, NHRA, and all the major racing sports require, and that is it. 5 point is way better. And it would make building cars cheaper....and cheaper to buy, and cheaper to insure.

what about the spfi upgrade.....go from carb to fuel injection.

need to drop that in a svx now......jk good work so far been reading and following for some time. the way you adapted the oil pan, now to fit the starter..that should mean only 6qt oil changes vs the factory 7qt capacity on the eg33. nice.

if one of the impact sensors is severed or disconnected (ones near the front frame rails under the fenders) it will turn the system to off and you will have a AirBag light on the dash on at all times. The main airbag controller is in the center console, under the radio area, mounted in front of the shifter. You could also defeat the connectors there. wow, this is a gray area. whoever disables it could/will be liable if theres a accident, but like you said, it will do more harm than good. The earliy airbags went of much more violantly, explosively than the new ones, old airbags are going ti hurt someone small, but the new cars now have eased that explosive charge somewhat.. I would leave it well enough alone.

1. will running synthetic blend in a ea81 have any bad side effects, ie leaks. 2. is this synthetic blend (castrol) really oil or man made- i think it could just be highly refined. 3. will this make my engine last longer 4. will i get better gas mileage 5. 5w-30 too light weight, i have been using regular gtx castrol 10w-30 but might switch for this winter expecting answers from a few mods....and anyone else. I searched but nobody said its okay on ea81 era.

The cost of maintaining your soob

The good thing about Subarus, are they are completely easy to work on as compared to 99% of all other cars on the road. A alternator swap takes like 10 minutes, open the hood on a Subie, there it is. Open a hood of most any other car you see, and where is the alternator That tells you something right there. -
look up by the steering column, and over towards where the cigarette lighter wirings are. I have seen some over by the fuse box area above the brake pedal as well and one of them over nearer the lighter socket. sometimes theres only one plastic connector and the other side is just a metal spade tip. wire colors are dog crap brown, and then black.

nice 3 door, wish Subaru would make small 3drs again... -
this is what i would try, and you might want to test a area out of the main vision field first, but probably some super super fine steel wool, the finest you can get, think mine is "0000" or whatever, and use some paint thinner with it to rub it off. I used steel wool with ammonia to remove the film residue from window tint on my windshield, it had a tint strip along the top on my 94ss. I did not rub very hard cause i didnt want to risk scratches, and it did not scratch.....Also if you use paint thinner be careful cause it might be flammable with the steel wool if you rub and get it hot.

look up ShawnW on here. He is in the Denver area, and he usually has leads or some for sale that are all ready to go. He is a Subaru master tech, he can make sure you get a good one, or he will help you get it all ready. -
seems like you just need new heads, or used ones that are checked and fresh. It is not usually enough to damage the block, but if it hit hard enough at high enough rpms, then you could be looking at a rod that might have bent or fracture......doubftul though. You would have to put fresh headgaskets in any engine, so why not keep your engine, get some rebuilt heads, and run with it.

i would go get the oil changed asap. That is a sign of old oil not getting to your lifters etc.....or it maybe had been cooked with the headgasket issue. Do you get lots of tiny air bubbles in your overflow tank after a nice drive? To check for that, go for a 30 minute drive, pull the car over with it still running, open the hood, and look into the top of the overflow tank. If you got bubbles coming in there, then you have a classic headgasket failure, and that means it may have overheated on the owner before, and he might have cooked the bearings. again do a oil change asap.

Denver does a decent job of plowing snow on 1_25 and I-70, and other main thru roads like Federal, Speer, etc. But, Denver does not plow side streets at all, where people live. I lived South of Wash Park, the night we got 33 inches of snow, and everything was closed for 2 days, well i went out and dug around my car, but the city plows NEVER came down my street, not in 2 days, not in 3 days, not in a week. They simply save money by not plowing most sidestreets. I noticed, people with big full size trucks were stuck in the middle of most streets. But, Subarus were going right on by, going about normal business. That was when i got into Subarus, my friend had one and his was like a tank. That might explain it some. Along with the fact Subarus have HOT heat, pretty decent gas milage, and lots of room. Nothing else can compete for what they sell for. Just watch out if you get into a new Subaru, they dont come with all season tires anymore, so you will find yourself purchasing new tires for one asap so you can get around.
