  1. hydro is not adjustable. did not mention car model. I would say a worn pressure plate/defective pressure plate, or else glazing.
  2. another testiment to really how many miles these first gen leg tanks are easily expected to get. I dont expect to see any of them not make it to 400k. the engineers did their job well on the 90-94 legacy's kudos to fhi.....for that era.
  3. your new kit may have "holes" marking it instead of paint.\ maybe your old clutch was just out of adjustment.?
  4. that dang 5 letter word starts with H. wut are you doing mick, most on here care less about that brand. lol
  5. and the reason the camshafts/rockers must come out on dohc is the head bolts are behind them, and the head bolts cannot be removed if they can't be gotten to. egg cartons work well to hold the parts, make sure you draw a diagram (or better yet label the parts too) so they dont get mixed up when reinstalling.
  6. engine electrical fires bad. glad you got to it before that happened. do you carry fire exteng? better give it a twice over see wut else they messd up. it really is hard to find a reliable shop around here that works on subarus correclty, never put the domestic abilities away either.
  7. I will try to keep this short. my knowledge shows, its almost always cheaper to source a rust free western car in the long run and have it shipped, then to try to find someone willing to cut out the rust free patch parts, pay to ship the pach parts, then pay to have them installed, then pay to have the thing painted. buying a cheap rust free rig and shipping it will cost around 1g for car and 900 to ship. Paying someone to cut up one, and ship it, then install and paint is about the same price. And once you have rot, you never really get all of it, its like cancer. It comes back and even faster.
  8. Subaru "had" to come up with a new design since the engineers "never" fixed the headgasket issue on the ej25.... Hopefully the engineers spent detail on the headgasket/reliability issue on this new design. Who care for power, its the longevity that matters most to me, along with efficiency. I hope its offered with dual range trans, not full time awd, but a switch to make it awd. External water pump, great. Just like the early ea71 ea81 engines, same location, easy to change. Timing chain not as reliable as a geared timing set only, but much more reliable than a standard t-belt. I see a much more reliable engine, and sure that the power numbers will get up there in second year/third year modifications. MPG can be achieved with that awd switch to make it fwd for mileage. Hats off to those who purchase the 2011 fozzy. Hope its closed deck.
  9. its most likely terminal, post some pics and we should be able to better answer. you are in Michigan, it kills cars around where we are.
  10. usually theres a flash time in the basecolor and the clear has to go on within that time, or it will flake off in due short time. The clear has to blend in with the not yet dried base. The flash time is usually documented on the back of the can. Never seen a flash time of longer than 24hours, so that means the clear MUST be put on within 24hours of the last basecoat. Less time of course in less humid enviros. We need to have a bodywork thread category. And let the experts chime in for us.
  11. before they replaced the diff, did you have a LSD diff? what about now, is it still LSD? my bet, is they gave you open, and snatched the lsd. at least your tire noise is gone now, and better check to see if lsd is gone too. thats all i can suspect at why they jumped so quick to replace. I hope i am totally wrong, but that is what i would imagine for reason to so quickly swap diffs since like mentioned by wise folks, they rarely if ever fail.
  12. i bought one about april of 2010 for my 85 Brat from rockauto.com dont really remember price, like 150 shipped or something like that. My old radiator's cap would not fit the replacement radiator, the replacement radiator had a need for a larger diameter cap. I called rockauto thinking maybe they sent the wrong part number, since they claim its direct fit. So i had to get the new cap at local store (oreilly). When i called radiator barn, they didnt seem to care and said it should have been same size cap, but it was not, and they really did nothing to help. No problems so far. The one they have comes with lines for ATF model and i just capped them, no worries.
  13. 142.55 for plug wires installed.....?????????? ???????? ???????? wow, a brat plug wire kit is like 12 bucks and my 3 minutes to install them WTF is this world cummmmmmmmmming to? serious that price is jacked.... not for here, but jacked for Subsru world peeeps.thanks ben for that photo i was about to sheeet myself on that one on ramsey ram me in my sheeeter, You guys/gals on the west coast could not afford to keep a rust bucket running here on those type service prices, so appreciate our old schoolness times 100 and thanks to ben ,Mick where are you?
  14. did the 385 miles one way in the 4" lifted BRAT on 27.5 tires with weber last evening.. about 23 mpg after corrections for speedo etc. Then coming back, today, with about 500 pounds of someones belongings, got about 27mpg til the wind started to pick up, then down to about 19 i guess. BRAT with 4" lift and 27.5 tires has a roadtrip in. For those, who want to lift a gen2 BRAT, the 205/75R15 do rub when loaded, (on turns and bumps) rub on the backs, on some Skyjacker lift shocks. My mudlfaps, whats left of them at least..........yeah i had a good load in the back end, topper on etc. My lifted BRAT is worthy unloaded of a cross the country trip, i would not hesitatate to take it to alaska, loaded would be no problem with some smaller tires, not the 205/75R15 Baja Widetracks. Not sure i want to go the 1500 miles roundtrip to Denver next week with the BRAT......or if i will take SVX (if i dont sell it tomorrow at the Subaru Show) or take the CRX......... fun times in Lafayette indiana and moving the SubieMech back.
  15. ej22 early years are not a headgasket eater. its ilkely something else wrong, ie air in the system, maybe low on coolant, etc. I would NOT tear into an early EJ22 to do headgaskets the Subaru gods made that engine to last an eternity, not have to do headgaskets. check the radiator, burp it, new cap on rad, etc......never tear down a ej22 they go for half a million before needing tore down. i have never seen a blown EJ22 hg, but have seen MAny newer ones....subaru made that ej22 bullet proof, like the song....serious, i know what i am talking about that motor is the best FUJI ever had....lets hope someday they can replicate that engine, or just bring it back.
  16. wow that thing is beat to hell and then some, I bet they NEVEr changed oil on time, prpbably added oil when it got low after 10,0o miles, that thing is trashed, why even risk it......what a waste of a car owner to have something so bad of shape....WASTE my time reading this thread, my advice is HELL no. and btw for anyone who is smart, that thing is NOT mechanic owned ever. its a work and that should tell you something run away far and dont look back. If that was my car (and no i would never own something so fugly) it would be give away and not sold for that asking price. bad things will come in this.
  17. snow covered highways they will be NOt good. those are a offroad tire. Spend some money and get a decent all season or snow tire....like blizzack, or better yet get something in the Nokian Hakkapeliitta breed, they will be the best tire you can get for snow, way better than some offroad tire......
  18. good project and good pic. The 12A is okay but wait til you can get a 13B..... wish i had this. make for darn certain that oil cooler is not leaking at the fittings....if it is, you will fry that rotary in NO TIME.- they run hotter than a ho with no panties on.
  19. yeah the 99 Outback has just gotten finished........new Headgaskets, cam seals, water pump, t belt, valve cover gaskets, etc etc etc, new idler bearings, ready to go another 150k. All parts from Subaru online, except the idlers came from import experts. This car had about 150k on it, and it was just beginning to show bubbles at that mileage......and needed to replenish coolant into radiator from the overflow. The idler bearings were about shot at this mileage. Ths car should make it to 300k now....with general maintenance as needed.
  20. lol coool. most of the people who posted on this thread are either inactive, or long gone lol
