  1. not surprised that other keys fit the BRAT. sort of surprised your BRAT key will start another though. I have started my BRAT with 5 different legacy keys I found in the junkyard, and was able to start my old legacy with the BRAT key. One key from a junkyard legacy fit the trunk but nothing else on my old 94 wagon. dont go tell the world how easy it is to get into and drive off on our cars. I use the CLUB anytime i park for more than a few hours........ also, if you park overnight someplace, pull some ignition fuse, or plug/coil wire and disable your car the easy way.
  2. if you like the Benz with 300k on it, then look for another one same model year etc with less than 100k on it. You know what you got out of yours, and you can use yours for a parts car for the one with 100k on it pay the premium to get one with low miles.
  3. agreed. the 90-94 is just a better car, in so many ways. The rumours you ahve heard about the 95-2002 are true. Dont hear about any rumours from the 90-94 for a reason. Make sure you dont get juked on a FWD only car tho. Make sure to go West to find a rust free one, and have it shipped. Way better off that route
  4. very old junkyard tires eh? that may put this thread to an end-surely that is part of it. .
  5. Handling department: easy = 1. best money is spent on new KYB GR2 shocks at all 4 corners, I say that brand because that is what works, others have found out the hard way and whenever they put on GR2's they are quite happy (do not get ricey coilover crap), 2. some name brand tires (think Michelin, BfGoodrich, Pirelli as 3 choices off the top of my brain now), and 3. make sure you have a good alignment. All those things have probably not been done on a nice used impreza, so start the savings account and make a list. doing all this will set you back about 1grand or more. It is the start.
  6. check out http://www.legacygt.com/ YES, 05+ turbo engine is very problematic, like 100% failure rate of the turbo, and the block itself. Get only a car that has had this fixed under warranty, IE it has a new engine and new turbo.. 64 pages to read of blown turbos -> http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/anyone-oem-blown-turbo-please-83047.html?t=83047&highlight=blown+turbo+warranty http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/blown-stock-turbos-v40-many-67252.html?t=67252 126 blown turbs, 392 not blown in the poll. but you will find all the problems on lgt. I have to recommend no turbo, just get the N/A and you should be much better off..
  7. are you actually tracking the code source and replacing the defective parts? If you are just clearing the codes to clear them, they will come back. The system does a series of checks, and if the checks dont pass, you get a ABS light. You have to fix the problem to get it to pass, and no light/
  8. just cause he added 200 exhaust does not necessarily mean the car price has to go up to cover his cost. Heck, I sold a 92SS with over 1600 worth of stereo equipment installed and only got 1800 for the entire car........It also had new clutch, new tires, etc. just saying, people out to make a buck, just doesnt work in the real world.
  9. Wow, i cant wait to see pics. You would think this came from a lady who messed things up or something.
  10. does it run a little better on a cold engine, and then get worse as it warms up? pull the covers and check the "correct" timing marks on both the cam sprockets, and the cranks gear..... sure seems like a timing issue...which i have seen before firsthand. My 92SS i bought and it just would not rev past 3500 no matter what. It coughed and sputtered above 2000. It also had a shake to it at idle, until the timing was checked, and then corrected... then it ran like a champ
  11. Fairly certain that is the ASV (air suction valve). It has tiny reed valves in it that fail over time. When converting the carb to a Weber, we pull that off, pop a quarter in it, and fasten it back up. The quarter blocks off the exhaust heat and gases, that whole ASV is a emissions devices, it helps the CATS run more cooly and not burn up. Once the quarter is in there, the we are done and call it good, also removing the rest of the piping to it. You still have a factory carb tho, so wait til others tell you what to do. see this http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=95815&highlight=air+suction+valve
  12. sensors, smog control sensors and devices, intake
  13. pretty sure all these questions and answers are posted over on bbs.legacycentral.org no use in beating it over and over again, when a search there will provide all info.
  14. wow, the green giant, and now, if you check ebay is a Smurf Brat. weird stuff happening i think. I tend to like original colors on cars, factory original that is.
  15. yeah it replaced my old 92 ss seen here i dont think i will ever buy a car that originated from the midwest again. The 94 is not got a single spot of rust.....yet.
  16. my crappy camera but link to more http://s405.photobucket.com/albums/pp132/bheinen74/94ss%205mt%20day%202/?action=view&current=IMGA0852.jpg mods...get some mudflaps and probably try to make it more quiet and think about a 5speed dual range 3.7 with lsd drivetrain, think fwd for daily drive and options...
  17. I think its Crimson Red pearl a 94 only color. Not whinestone- I had that with my former 94tw Color code is 309
  18. So I gave it a bath tonight, and took some pictures. 109,000 miles, 5mt, NM/Florida car, stock AM/FM/CD has a potato shooter exhaust, and manual boost controller-guage. I bid on this same car, on Ridesafely auction back on 9/15/09, but did not win the auction. Damage was to the front right fender, and headlight. I tracked it dwn, and it had already been fixed and up for sale. I bought it. It does have a tweaked lower passenger control arm still, have that in the classifieds. the front windshield had large in white SUBARU across the top, and it had a tint strip on the front. that stuff is gone already, took a good 1.5 hours to get the goo off from the tint strip. Next up, de-tint the fronts, i don't want to give them a reason to want to pull me over. Also, trying to get the stock 5 star alloys to go back on......but i cant find anyone willing to ship. Final plans, daily driver....for quite some time. its vin number 499, i think that is lucky.
  19. really weird that the US versions are so much different then other specs...and this is a prime example
  20. SEARS or home Depot.....or stop at a local mom and pop shop to see if they will loan you one.. good luck Ben, you can do it.
  21. i hope the week of rest you gave Guido has caused him to allow you to coax on the rest of the lift.
