  1. At first i read the thread and was thinking pressure plate torque, those are 12 ft lbs i believe. Then I realized your were talking flywheel to the crank shaft, yeah sound like 54 or so on those.
  2. if you 05 outback has less than 100k miles on it, Subaru has extended the factory warranty on the bearings to 100,000 miles do to a TSB bulletin. They will fix and replace for free if you have less than 100k, and they are in fact bad. Miles-NO. They are a hub unit, not just a bearing. the whole unit has to be replaced, there is no "just press out the bearing" press in the new. The whole thing has to be replaced. Subaru is going downhill.
  3. No, wassnt that the story of 5000 RPM, 20 degree timing advanace, and with E85 blend? Dennis said he would either ride along with someone, or try to get a relliable enough ride to go along, not the SVX he has.
  4. Passing Lamp / Offroad Lamp was only on 1980, 1981, and 1982 cars from the factory. check out the center link "subarus of the 80's for the brochures it will tell what models it could come one. They are rare now, in that sure, they can be retrofitted to basically any of the same body style generation body, but it is RARE to find a working center lamp, with harness, with the RELAY (really rare) and a dash switch all as a COMPLETE unit to install retrofit.
  5. looking good that is a nice BRAT color.
  6. yeah, they trap salt/sand and dirt in between the rubber strip, on both sides, and how it is swedged onto the fender rib. If you take them off, and put some good wax on there inside and upper side of the fender lip, and leave them off, it will help prevent rust
  7. if you use thicker oil on a 4 cylinder that is not worn, the oil will be too thick to get to where it needs to be. Like GD said, you are probably causing damage. Subaru engines don't start showing wear til after 300k, and even, then, use the recommended weight oil. If we are talking V8's Big blocks, etc. then what you are doing would maybe be okay.
  8. good way to pull a prank, call in someones car vin that has onstar and report the car stolen. They will disable the car and friend will be stuck wondering what happened. Maybe Toyota should to that for the runaway cars they have now. Big Brother does not belong in private owned cars. Fail to make a loan payment, they will shut the car off. I agree, you dont want it.
  9. The best way to get high miles is to keep using the same ol same ol. Whatever the car manufacturer recommends for weight and you will be good. Anything else, disrupts natures course.
  10. Subaru's answer is not acceptable in my book. Glad you filed your complaint to nhtsa, maybe they can make something happen
  11. It would be nice if Subaru would listen to what some of the people want.....please bring back the FWD/Selectable dual range 4wd.
  12. it will be meet in Des Moines at the Waveland Cafe for their famous breakfast (thats what we did last year) so I assume the same, then we head south out of DM to the level B roads, then meet for lunch at a small town diner, mingle, then back to DM at a Restauraunt/Bar/Grillfor awards, muddiest truck, and watch the pics and vids on a big screen at the Grill/bar.
  13. this depends also, do you drive the car on icy roads and snow? This could just be the same thing as what a large number experience, even mine exhibits strange behavior on potholed roads where the back is definitely not sure footed and planted to the road.
  14. after looking at that diagram, reminds me why its good idea to carry fire extinguisher in the car..
  15. What is the purpose for removal? This sounds like a waste of a lot of valuable time with no benefit in the end.
  16. hmm, it is a 86 Turbo GL. 400 is the asking. heres the interior shot if that helps
  17. save your lift for after i vote. Even the Gravel roads are muddy now.....so i can only imagine what a level B is like-can you say gooooeeeyyy
  18. Are you just concerned about speed, or speed and mileage counts? I would just paint new numbers on the dial at the appropriate conversion to mph and be done, basically reface the dial. Not a bad thing for when we go to the metric system.
  19. mmm. I need a car trailer..but i may just rent the uhaul with trailer on this and take a day off to get it.
  20. First off, this is a problem that has occurred with many people for that year, across the line of Subaru car models You can search complaints, and file your own complaint with NHTSA here http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ Also, you might be able to get warranty replacement of the whole headlight housing from Subaru, at your local dealer. You may have to go to several dealers before one is willing to help you. Print the NHTSA complaints on this to help you persuade them it is a common issue Still, it is best you file a complaint on the link, and talk to your dealer. sorry, first year models, are prone to bugs. You are not alone. Please get your vin handy, and use it when you file your complaint. Enough complaints, and there will be a recall. That goes for others with the same issue. -another approach is to unplug the DRL (daytime running light module) but this is a safety issue, but will maintain a little longer headlight life. Do this as the LAST RESORT only if your dealer, or dealers cannot help you get new lense for free. And for the last plug, you could sell yours, and by a newer one. But, you may get the ghostwalk issue, if you dont already have it.
  21. geometry is wrong; file a complaint in the link telling that your older one wasnt like that, and write a good description. At some point, something has to be done about the newer handling, etc. The engineers i think messed up what once was a great car.
  22. i also vote for do it after the lift. You are gonna want the exhaust to bend up right after the y pipe, and factory form it goes level back from it. After your lift, you will want a bend up after the y pipe, and tuck up along the driveshaft again for clearance.
