  1. One more question about the ssr's how do they do in the snow. I'll be working at the steves pass this winter so i'll be drving in the snow a lot and my subaru is my snow car. Would i be better off getting some snow tires for the winter and getting the swampers in the spring. Eric how do the kohmos compare to the swamper in the snow Thanks
  2. Im looking to get a set of swampers for the wagon. Its my second car so its not driven on the street that much. Im wondering if some one can tell me the difference between the ssr 27x9.5r15's and the TSL radials 215X85r15's. Also 9.5 is pretty wide i run 215 75 15's and rub a little at full lock, I just got finished watching Zap's soobaru fun video and they are all running a swamper that looks pretty narrow what tire is this. Thanks, also is their a good place in the seattle area to get them or is it best to order them online and have them monted by any tire store. David
  3. Yeah i just got the inbox cleared out, sorry. Yeah i'll defenitly come up to b-ham some sunday, i'll get a hold of you next one that i have free. David

  5. Hey, Ive finaly got my wagon ready to do some 4 wheeling, (lift tires lights ect.. still looking for a lsd) Ive taking it around and done some minor trails and such. The problem is i dont have any friends with off road cars. So im looking to see if any one wants to get together to do some wheeling. I live in woodinville, work in seattle. I have every sun. and mon. off and get off at 6 on the other days. Reiter Pit is close to me but i am willing to drive anywhere! I am new to this but am eger to learn more. I just got ezaps video and am inspired by what someone with driving talent can do with one of these little cars. PM or e-mail me davidbuswell@comcast.net By the way what is the best way to post/host pics the admin. told me the USMB photo gallery is not the place, i didnt let me register. I just have a couple pics of my car and such. Thanks David
  6. Check out the Alcan its a road rally that they run in feburary from seattle up to alaska. A lot of newer subarus run in it, maybe something for some of our old schoolers to hook up with. http://www.writerguy.com/primitive/cde/2004_alcan.htm has info on on the 2004 i heard about the 2005 on npr earlier in the summer.
  7. I just picked up a cam for my 83 wagon, what all is involved in installing them. Does the engine have to removed. Any word on how ea 81's react to new cams. Thanks David
  8. I knocked one side of the diff hanger off last night on a log. The bar is pretty bent, i've read about people reinforcing them but wondered if anyone had any pics. I have a welder so its just about finding the best design. Thanks
  9. Yeah the pannel is great it has fuses for every circut right in the pannel so it let me get rid of the fuse pannel i had. I didnt feel relays were really nessecary with just 15amps. I ran 12 awg/2 wire which is more then enough but i had a spool. With just plain switches i had trouble with the current affecting the radio/speakers out put with this pannel. It is back lit with leds that draw only 10 mili amps. David
  10. I would run a 12awg wire and run each pair of lights on a seperate circute. I put in one of these pannels in my car to run all the acceseries. I have the fan, sterio, lights, cb. all wired in. All you have to do is run one positive lead from your battery to the pannel and then i have a buss bar that i gound every thing too. This keeps all the acceseries i have seperate from the original wiring. A lot easier to remove if i have to. I had aleady built a new center consol to mount my sterio so i just cut a hole to mount the pannel. I run a optima red top as my main battery, and am adding a blue top as a secondary so im not worried about drawing to much. You can find any of this wiring stuff at a good marine store. I work at one in seattle (fisheries supply www.fisheriessupply.com) we ship out. so if you cant find them around you, you could order from us.http://www.bluesea.com/dept.asp?d_id=7997&l1=7460&l2=7997 David
  11. I have an 83 4wd wagon and have heared that subaru used two different heads on the 83s and one is better then the other. So now im wondering how to tell what i have and if i dont have them how to tell what cars i can find them on. Assuming that they can be swaped. Thanks David
  12. grind down two sides flat and use a regular cresent to un do them.thats how i did it before.
  13. I was going to mention about the position of the star on some of the earlier post with WCSS in the state, they seemed a little to far north east. Shelton is pretty much strait south of the bottom of the hook on Hood Canal, on the end of the sound. Designs look great, shelton should be a good place, there are tons of logging roads around for some light off roading.
  14. I checked at napa and if you get the higher output alt for a 79 olds cutlas V8 it is the same one that raven used for his swap. It was around $55 at my store.David
  15. What is "properly adjusted?" Mine is new from carbs unlimited and still runs funky. Starts every time including after sitting in 10f temps. I seem to try a new adjustments every couple weeks, each seem to have their +'s and -'s. I would seem low on power and so i richened it up a little, more top end but would die when ever i came to a stop after getting off the freeway. Lean it out, i would get less mpg's but wouldnt die. I am just trying to find a happy medium. Also twice when returning from the mountians i have had it all of a sudden loose a lot of power, had to keep it floored to keep moving in 4th gear. It would die when ever i came to a stop and then it would be fine when i restarted. Almost seemed that the first barrel was not open and i had to get into the 2nd to get any power. I am going to find a good carb guy to take a look at it and see what he says.
  16. Sorry i dont have a digital camera. They are just pieces of wood paneling maybe 1/4" thick that i cut to fit the bottom section of the doors because i removed the carpet like stuff in the back and the cubby baskets in the from. I stainded them pretty dark and then glued them into place. I then mounted the speakers through the wood. I hope that i helped.
  17. The dash speakers are worthless, they are rated at 5w. Any new deck would blow them with ease. They are are pretty small too. If you found some 3" or so round tweeters or something they could probaly mounted in the stock spot and the cover would fit back on top. The passenger side one is behind the fake vent slots and is hard to get to. You are kind of stuck if you want to use the stock spots and use newer speakers. Since you are going to have to do something custom for the dash, you might as well go custom on the speakers too. I am making new door pannels for the bottom parts out of wood and they look pretty nice.
  18. When i was driving to Mt. baker for opening day in december there were five of us (us meaning subarus) in a row. Pretty much every style from my 83 wagon to a new outback. The parking lot at ski areas are always full of them. Last time i counted it was close to 1 in 10 cars being subarus. I always wonder if they notice the old ones, as much as we notice the new ones.
  19. I would put speakers in the front doors instead of the back. The location of the speakers in the rear doors is right up against the seats and it really dulls the sound coming out. I first put some there and just moved them to the front door and they sound a lot better. I also cut new holes in the front door. I found that if you mount right into the metal of the door it cuts down on the amount of rattle that you get. If you want speakers in the back i would put them in the hatch. if you take off the pannel you'll see two openings i screwed some 1/2" thick wood the the inside of the metal frame and mounted the speaker throught the pannel into the wood. To wire the speakers in the hatch i ran it inside the trim along the edge of the celing and then down the side of the rear window. The sound from a decent deck and four decent speakers is really good. I built a new consol for the deck out of some wood and then painted and fiberglassed it. It isnt the best looking thing but it works.
  20. I'll check the ground on the radiator, just by feeling the hoses and such in the radiator it seems to be heating up fine. The more i dig the more i find weird stuff in the wiring. I only get around 4.5v out of the cig outlet. thanks for the idea i'll give it a shot. David
  21. This is on my 83 gl wagon 4wd. Over the last month i have noticed that the temp gadge in the car will go up to a certin point and stop. Slowly that point where it stops has been going down. Last week not knowing if the two systems were connected i drove the car hard for a while and thought the gadge showed barely over the bottom line I knew i should be at least around the middle line. Then checked while car was still running and the radiator fan was not on. I tested the fan and it runs fine with 12v of power. The radiator, fan, and water pump are all only three months old, so i feel that no damage has accured by overheating. I replaced the fan switch in the radiator but that didnt change any thing. Currently i wired the fan to run with the key in the on position. I was wondering where the gadge's sending unit is or any other ideas on why these are not working right. On another maybe connected not by battery gadge will read less then ten volts when i start and raise to around 12 when running, but my battery reads 12.6 with the car off and 13.3 when runing when i test with a multimeter. Any ideas on ether of the situations would be great. Thanks David
  22. Well with the filter on the end it makes me think that i could make one out of some PVC fittings. I was planning to run it out the passenger fender and up the side of the window. Is their an advantage to run it inside the hood, other then saving the time and parts to run farther. David
  23. i have a weber and i know a lot of others do too, i was wondering if anyone has pictures of how they connected thier snorkel to the weber intake, Also where is the air filtered. Do you use the stock filter or do you use an after market one on the end. Thanks David
  24. What are the people, who have done this swap, using as the spacer for this swap? Is it something that has to be specialy made, or what. Thanks. David
  25. thanks guys i guess its time to go to the junk yard and start looking for xt6's. To bad they are not more common.
