Aux instrument cluster for an EA82
Durania replied to CzarMohab's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The lighted fan toggle switch is retarded. The previous owner of my brat rigged one up to be like fast and furious and it caused more trouble than it was worth. Those things wear out easily and you don't want it wearing out on you in the middle of summer traffic. If you do, there is plenty of articles about doing headgaskets on here. -
OEM thermostat and gasket all the way! I changed mine out two weeks ago and it does sweet, the gasket doesnt have to have any junk put on it cause it will seal itself once the motor gets warm. Buy buying one from autozone you get a thermostat that can fit everyone else's cars and having just a random operating temperature. Buy using a subaru one you it is made specifically for your car. Only about 17 bucks for mine.

Lets see some more of that famous Rosy the Riveter action. -
Id just assume to buy a new one, how much would that run me.

Heard some stories about how replacing one of these can be beneficial and helps the motor run better. Whats the steps to go about replacing one of these and what to look for?

From the pic, that looks like Satan's school bus.

Assuming she hasnt done a motor swap, the BRAT wont have timing belts. The belt that connects the alt and water pump is the main one, are you getting goofy voltage readings? -
You might want to post a duplicate or have a mod move this thread over to the new gen forum. The EJ guys might know how to help you better than the EA users.
-
That will work, thanks fellars. I will try and get around to doing that this weekend, I could always pull onto a parking curb and do it. Maybe I could get one of them pictures like the 4WD guys have and then I could finally fit in.

Did both hoses, upper heater hose, and thermostat and gasket (Yes, GD I got them from the dealer per your advice). I put new coolant in when I did this work on Saturday.
-
I dont hear it at shut-down, it only last for about 4 seconds at startup. My EA81 hatch did the same thing and the motor doesnt get hot or anything.
-
If it goes and you have the $$, you could get one of them sweet CCR motors.
-
At startup after a few preliminary revs of the engine I hear the sound of coolant rushing through the heater core I assume. Is this a normal sound that most experience or a sign that I need to flush out my heater core?

The EA81 sings a beautiful song that rivals that of Shakira.

Not bad of a price there Frank.
