  1. The o-ring kit is something that Mike @ Smart Service suggested... I trust his judgement, besides the fact that in addition to not functioning, I know the pump is also leaking (out the hose side, right onto the cat) thanks for the p/n on the brushes, that's a good start.
  2. Ok, so after finding out the hard way that neither Autozone nor Schmucks knows the difference between a mechanical steering pump for an XT and a cybrid pump for an XT6, I'm coming to the conclusion that I seriously do not have any choice but to rebuild the existing pump. I've called the local Soob dealership a couple times to try to get info and one guy said he can order it and quoted me a price, but when I called back to order it, the other guy couldn't find the parts. can anyone give me part numbers for both the motor brushes for the cybrid steering pump and the seal/o-ring kit for the pump?
  3. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/165mm-H4651-H4656-H1-HID-EURO-CONVERSION-HEADLIGHTS-SET_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33710QQitemZ7943941622QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V This set will do one side of a quad-lamp setup (so you'd need two of these for all the lamps). I've used this brand before on my XT (dual lamp) and they look and worked great. Though heed the others' advice about wiring, the XT was designed to run its hi-beams off the same lamp.
  4. Somewhere in the first five rows, right?
  5. And, to ask the stupid question... How does one check for that?
  6. grossgary... I have a question about the diagnostic method of feeling how the hoses heat up. I fired up the 6 and started monitoring the hose temperature. The d/s hose was pretty warm by the time the temp gauge got to the lower tick of the C spectrum on the temp gauge, and got a bit hotter (hot enough that touching it was uncomfortable, but not dangerous)... and the p/s hose didn't ever get as hot, even when the gauge went past 1/2 way to H. HOWEVER... I then went and replicated the experiment on my Kia, which has a perfectly functional cooling system. Its upper hose is equivalent to our p/s hose (it comes off the thermostat and goes to the radiator) and its lower hose is equivalent to our d/s hose. I turned the car on and monitored ITS rate of heat progression, and it did the exact same thing... except it never got over 1/2 to H because both of its fans kicked in at the appropriate time. Now, I didn't heat the 6 up to the point where the fan kicks in... but I noticed there are two fans on this model instead of one. Are they both supposed to kick in at the same time, or is one a failsafe that kicks in at a higher temperature? I remember autozone's site listing an "auxiliary radiator fan" but didn't pay much attention to it.
  7. I seem to recall that the Datsun 510 can use a Subaru LSD in place of its own rear diff, and that Datsun owners will even compete with us for those few rare ones. All is fair, I guess, since Soob owners compete with Peugeot owners for their wheels.
  8. There are a lot of people who determine their car's life in miles rather than age. There are also those who do still measure in age, but 2 years is too old. We call them real estate agents. Besides attrition from accidents, this is one of the ways that cars "die off" to the point where we consider them rare: people trade them in, someone else buys them and thrashes them, then junk them a couple years later.
  9. Alright... here's hoping it just needs a flush... By the way, does anyone know what the capacity of the cybrid steering pump's reservoir is?
  10. FWIW, the last car I had converted to r134 was my '91 Storm. I took it to a mechanic to do the whole thing, and he converted it and recharged it for $135 after tax.
  11. OK... so is it an XT-6 only radiator, or are there other fitments that work?
  12. Freebie was wired like that, and it became a problem, so you'll understand if I pass on that suggestion. I don't know if it does this at highway speeds. I have only tested this in the confines of my garage (I still don't have the front struts on, I haven't had time). So this has technically happened only once, but it's not exactly something I want to "test" a lot, i'd rather get it fixed if you know what I mean. I don't know if the radiator has been replaced. Car has 115k miles on it and other than the toasted air suspension and a dead cybrid pump, it's in REALLY good condition. The fan DOES come on, but not until it's 3/4 of the way to hot. Which I find very bizarre. Is that still the same sensor? Or would that be a water temp sensor or something like that? Edit: Also, know a good way to remove the t-stat housing bolts WITHOUT snapping them off in the water pipe?
  13. To you XT6 owners: Where on your temp gauge does your XT6 normally run at operating temperature? My 6 seems to be running hot, but the odd part is the radiator fan doesn't even kick on until the car is more than 3/4 of the way to hot... which is where the heat peaks out. It doesn't fully overheat, but it does look like it runs HOT... is this normal? If not, what's the fix?
  14. It was either $15 or $20 per tire brand new for 13", but yeah... On Evergreen just north of the Boeing freeway...
  15. You can't expect anyone in any profession to know everything about it when they just start out. We learn by doing. Often times by mistakes as well. If he's young and inexperienced, he's learning, and the court will not punish you for it. If it is an honest mistake and he is unaware of the legality of 1) passengers in trucks and/or 2) passengers in jump seats, then certainly he will learn from court. There is no reason to "smear" it in his face or to think him stupid or a hardass because he gave you a ticket for what he may honestly not yet know is OK.
  16. Besides the fact that the OEM roof racks are VERY difficult to remove after a decade or so because the screws are so rusted.... if you DID go that route, you'd need all new fasteners.
  17. Hey, you can always pick up chicks on the ski slope. Ski chicks dig 'Burus. As for the mocking, you shall get none from me. Three things Loyales do best: Carry stuff Commute Not drain the wallet Edit: Oh yeah, if you REALLY miss the roof racks, you can install some...
  18. You know me, Ed... I worked retail for 11 years, I have the utmost respect for retail employees because I've been in their shoes. A lot. I could explain a couple other things... not sure they're 100% appropriate for the forum, so I guess I'll shoot you a PM.
  19. That would be him. apparently the fact that I bought both of the struts on the same receipt, at the same time, from the same guy, and was returning them because they WOULDN'T FIT, doesn't mean anything. The guy who was processing the return asked him, and he just looked at me and said "nope, can't return it". Nice. jackhole.
  20. Cheap used rims is easy... Pull-A-Part. They're going to be the same size as yours, though, 13". Subaru didn't make a larger rim with the odd 4x140 pattern that your RX has. Your options for larger rims are to either find alloys from a newer Peugeot 505 (it is the 505, right? with the 4x140mm offset, you can find 'em up to 15"), import rims from France or Australia ($$$$!), or do a 5-lug conversion. This is moderately expensive, but allows for you to use a wide variety of rims, since that's the same bolt pattern as the XT6, Impreza, Legacy, WRX, etc...
  21. I gave up looking for an impreza there, so I went down the street to Best and paid the extra money for the Impreza struts from them. Oh, and I'm kinda sore at PaP right now because the yahoo who sold me the Legacy struts didn't mark one of them, and they wouldn't let me return it. and then had the audacity to say it is MY job to make sure it's marked. (Excuse me, but no... if you put a stipulation like that on return, it is the employee's responsibility, not the customer's... failure to do so could be considered oh, FRAUD...)
  22. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=10916&size=big&cat=500&ppuser=14593 A pic I snapped when it was in my garage...
  23. That's a good question, I didn't read the vin plate because I didn't know there was a difference.
