And So I Bid You Farewell....
Ever Victorious replied to TurboXT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
We shall say goodbye and good luck for now, but once Subarus are in your blood, you always end up with one again. -
It finally stopped raining long enough here for me to install my H6054/H4 multi-reflector headlamp kit on my XT. Thought night hasn't come yet for the true test of lighting power, I can already tell the new lamps are at LEAST 4 times brighter than the old, just looking at the light reflecting off the side of my house. Piccies.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=9669&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 (Scroll to the left to see the rest of the images) Will go out in a couple hours and see how much difference it makes at night.

Hey Qman!
Ever Victorious replied to Ever Victorious's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
That's fine. But a response to the effect would have been nice, that's all. -
I sent you a couple PM's last month... did you get them? Do you have a response for me?

And if they don't like it, they can move right next to an airport or a trainyard. Because those are so much more fun. -
I'll give it :slobber: :slobber: .... Yes, some early subaru Mags would look good, or maybe ones that are like on 75subie's BRAT?

My EA82 looks like a spaceship. -

SUNDAY FREE in SEATTLE
Ever Victorious replied to xoomer's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I'm all about cheap/free parts. But none of them will fit. Unless you have an EA81 alternator... just found out Freebie's alt is smoked. -

Hmm... The good 1) the "Subaru Sound"... 2) Tougher than my grandma riled up on caffeine and politics 3) dash gauges tilt with the wheel in the XT 4) cheap parts, and USUALLY easy to replace (stupid heater core hose clamps...) 5) even the 2WDs do better in poor weather than a lot of others' 4WDs The bad 1) In the "older" generation subarus, I feel like I'm eating my knees. 2) the "newer" generation Subarus hold their value too well, I'll never be able to afford one again. 3) anyone feel like taking apart the dash of an XT? No? awww... 4) It may be a gas hog, but the Kia is WAY faster, and handles about as well as the XT. Still love the subes. Though I've gone back to the Kia for a while. Something about having heat in the morning that's nice... -
Dry. Poked around at the connections on the underside of the coil and there was this round connector with four pins inside it that was SLIGHTLY disconnected. After reconnecting, it fired right up. I need to look at it again later... not leaking coolant any more, but it gets to about 75% of the way to hot before it stops... whereas before it would get 60-65% there and then stop. Edit: (rereads specs on the XT) Yeah. Probably don't have enough coolant in it... I put in about 2 quarts, mixed... says 6.1 quarts capacity. And I'm fairly certain I had basically no coolant left...

Mmm... pretty pretty XT... and a non-turbo 4WD? NIIIICE.

All 5 of the wires going into the top of the distributor are properly seated, as is the disty wire to the ig coil. Is there a specific wire I need to look at? This seems more likely, as the output line split on the outboard (driver's) side of the line, spraying everything between the hose and the fender, about 4 inches to the front and rear of the split in the line. How is this fixed? parts? opening it up and pointing a hair dryer at it?
-
OK, I replaced the line $%*@#$%@#%.... anyway. New problem: the car won't start. All I've done is replaced one of the heater coolant lines (the one that was actually split, I'll worry about the other one next weekend). I checked the ignition coil wire, it's secure both on the coil and on the dizzy cap. The car turns over, but doesn't sound like it's trying (or able) to fire. Occasionally, if I've been turning it over for several seconds, I'll get a "lug" out of the engine (like one single fire) after I release the key. Ideas? Starting problems are something I have almost no familiarity with... so treat me like I'm the idiot I am on this one...

Ratio of running vs. non-running subarus
Ever Victorious replied to Snowman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
One of my own that will be running as soon as I replace the heater core hoses (XT) One that belongs to Havoc_66 that is sitting on my property that runs, drives, but needs some work and licensing (Freebiemobile) -
OK, so the coolant return line from the heater core to the water pipe (?) on my XT blew this morning, good 1" crack, lost all coolant. Doesn't look like I overheated the car, though, so I may be lucky. there are two hoses that come forward from the firewall that contain coolant, one is the cracked one, the other I assume is another coolant line. Anyone have any advice or know of any pitfalls in replacing these?

I'd actually go back and refit my GL with a package shelf (there was even the right one in PaP recently!)... but the back of my seat is stuck shut, so I can't get to the mounting hardware...
