  1. It's actually a little worse than that... whenever the car is in the "on" position, it acts as if it is in the "start" position, meaning the STARTER MOTOR IS CONSTANTLY ON! even when the car is running! This problem did not occur with the stock ignition switch, but the lock cylinder was so worn that it just got stuck in the "on" position with no way to turn it off or start it. Mo... what ed is saying is that a new lock cylinder can be made for the stock ignition switch (with the steering lock bolt) and keyed for $133. You can go that way if you want, it's certain to work. But we should address the cooling and richness issues first.
  2. Thanks... I'll take a look tomorrow when there's light. Hopefully I will have decent tunage tomorrow.
  3. A couple LED sticks between the front seats should do the trick.
  4. OK... posted this on XT6.net, but so far I haven't received a definitive answer, just a "search the posts"... doing so is now why I have a problem. When I search for information on the color codes for wiring the stereo there, I can only find 2 posts, and the information contained within is conflicting. About the only thing that the 2 posts agree on: Black is ground. Duh. If anyone know which colors of wires are 12V Switched, 12V Constant, and Power Antenna, I'd appreciate it. I don't terribly need to know what color the speakers are, as I am going to run new wire to the speakers... but knowing it could help me narrow down the wires I need.
  5. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/specs/general/specyears.html Will give you a reference for '74 thru '87. Most of the choices for '87 were also available thru '94 ('91 for XT's/6's, '93 for Justies)
  6. Well, the suggestion was get another key made... at least if the key does not readily unlock the doors. Which it does, so the key isn't really worn. Then the solution is to replace the ig lock cylinder, and have it re-keyed. Edrach says this is about $100 and doesn't last very long. Which you can see is why I chose the aftermarket ig switch...
  7. Winter? In Texas? Although I have seen your snow pictures...
  8. Did you have another aftermarket deck in there before, or was it the stock one? If it was stock, did you have to rewire everything, or was a wiring harness adapter good enough?
  9. Ah, the smell of fuel in ones exhaust. How does one lean out a Hitachi carb on an '83 EA71 with California emissions package?
  10. OK... so the friend that is buying Freebie off of me to help pay for the XT came over, and we were working on it some more. Took the radiator out and flushed it, then moved the car out and flushed the cooling system. Looks like it may have just been a case that all of the coolant that WAS in the system had broken down. Not much left but rust and water. Put those back together and put actual coolant in it, and it seems to be better (though didn't run it long enough to do a full heat-up). Well, then we went to work on wiring for the new Ig switch. I followed the directions given to me by several of you guys, and I'm running into a problem... I can figure out how to get the "Off" and "Acc" correctly wired, but every combination I have tried has "Start" and "On" switched (starter engages when key is switched to "On" position). Any ideas on how to correct this? She should be joining the forums tonight to ask about this, and another question I'm about to post.
  11. Can you really guarantee that all of them haven't had the same thing tried on 'em? I'd say get one from a wrecking yard that you know to be stock. FYI - Code 31 is Throttle Sensor, and Code 22 is for the Knock Sensor. For what it's worth.
  12. Quick, someone snag it before it falls in the wrong hands!
  13. Interested, but busy... autocross in the AM, helping the friend that bought Freebie off of me get it fixed in the PM.
  14. Lots of different opinions here. I guess it would be best if I went to go visit Suberdave and put a couple of the wheels on just to look and compare.
  15. I personally think they'd go better on the XT than a lot of the alloys Subaru offered. Rally looks ugly to me period, and Premier looks like it belongs on a GL-10 or RX sedan. Motion looks good on an XT, my last XT had a set of them... but from what I've seen, they're kinda hard to find now. H-Styles are pretty universal. But what are your other choices? Bare steelies? Bleh. Black steelies? Bleh squared. Wheel covers? Hard to find a good set w/o curb rash or cracks. Aftermarket wheel covers? Have you seen the ugly monstrosities that Schmucks has to offer? Oh wait, I know the ultimate in bling! FAKE SPINNER wheel covers! Yeah baby! I may be a ricer, but I'm not that bad of a ricer. I still have self-respect.
  16. Great. Now I just need to get my $10 ebay fart cannon.
  17. Besides the fact that in WA, anything 25 years old or older is automatically exempt.
  18. Do I NEED to point at the 4" exhaust tip on my Kia? Suberdave - you've got PM.
  19. OK, I had another hint of either brilliance or madness, the responses to this thread will probably tell the difference. I posted looking for some old, well used alloys for my XT of a couple specific types... but what do you guys think about this: A set of wagon wheels for the EA82 series, repainted bronze? Quick fashion question, I guess it is. Like it? hate it? Am I nuts?
  20. Where is 75subie, and why hasn't he bought his ticket out there yet?
