Hey guys - I popped the hood open on the XT this morning to see if I could quickly pop in the spare cone filter I have laying around, and noticed that as opposed to having an intake hose screw down on both sides of the MAF tube, this one has the engine side screwed down, but is bolted to an adapter plate in the incoming side. How does one hook up a cone filter in this scenario? Is there an adapter plate that bolts to the MAF that provides a tube for the cone filter to affix to?

They weren't. But I've been noticing a plethora of mis-titled older Subarus here lately. Like the 78 in this forum that's titled as a 73....

In the Craigslist post on Marketplace, there's a link to one in Port Orchard, WA... a '79 for under a grand.

Looks like it's probably a similar deal to Carter.... it's probably a mascot that they've restored and put on their floor for show/nostalgia. -

Actually, I was out today. Tweaked my back. I have 4 weeks of vacation + 5 sick days... figured it would be worth taking one to keep from hurting myself worse. I'll be back tomorrow. And maybe one of these days I'll stop being shy and stop by and say hi. -

Not all XT's have air suspension. This is a GL model, so it has coil suspension. -
75 4WD Wagon Update
Ever Victorious replied to gen1lover's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Yes, it has a steering wheel lock. Resolution: either get a key (as noted above) if you have the $$ to do it, or disassemble the ignition mechanism and take it off the steering wheel, that will remove the bolt. You can get a generic ignition with new keys for $10-20. Having a key made would be better, tho, since it would probably also work in the doors. -

Uh uh. Try New Hampshire. initials N.H. on the lower plate, and the red and blue graphic appears to be a picture of the states of Vermont and New Hampshire. Though Carter Subaru in WA has a blue wagon very similar to it in just as good of condition. it's their mascot. -

Well, those wheel covers are going to be tossed when they come off. the RF is severely curb rashed, and the LR is broken, missing a pretty big chunk. They're EA82, but all XT's were either MPFI (N/A) or Turbo. This is an MPFI. Oh, and looking at a picture I (finally) found after looking for a while, I think this car may be equipped with the famed spider intake. As far as getting the car's looks to "pop"... don't worry, insidious ideas like that always go through my head. Remember, I'm a ricer. -

First, she needs to be washed, inside and out. She's going to become my daily driver. So nothing radical that will take her out of service (at least not until my wife's car is repaired). some alloys might be nice, and if the paint starts to go south quickly here, a fresh coat. Possibly install a new stereo, but nothing fancy. My friend has a spare Pioneer tape deck sitting here with a 6-disc changer. I gave him an MP3 CD deck recently, I think that might be a fair trade for it. I've got a spare cone filter sitting in the garage. Maybe toss that on. -
75subie - you asked for em, you got em. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8541&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8542&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8543&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 The car was originally Liberty White. It was re-painted by Maaco 5 years ago. New alternator last year, new water pump a few months ago. I could tell it had been sitting a little while from the organic debris under the windshield wiper, and the climate controls spit out little chunks of pine needles for a few minutes, but it's no biggie. The car runs and drives exactly like my old XT, and I've just been bombing around today with a huge grin on my face.

Though I wouldn't recommend using your house key... Broke the ignition tumbler on my '76 DL doing that on accident. hehe -

http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/specs/general/1978dlwa.html Vin indicates 78 DL 4WD wagon. A67L means Gen1 4WD. Subaru didn't introduce 4WD till 75, so no possibility of an A67L VIN prior to that. -

C'mon, don't let a little thing like that stop you. There's got to be one somewhere... I mean, if that '75 in Utah can't be saved from the yard, maybe someone could at least pull its door... -
Unknown Coolant leak

You have actual COOLANT running down your exhaust? In liquid form? Cracked head or bad head gasket(s)... -
key/ignition lubrication question
Ever Victorious replied to Ever Victorious's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
She is. And her truck will live to see another day. Airbags didn't deploy, so the accident wasn't all that fast. It'll be a few days to fix... thank goodness for rental reimbursement. -
key/ignition lubrication question
Ever Victorious replied to Ever Victorious's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Point is now moot... wife just had a car accident, at-fault... so the increase in insurance rates is going to destroy my budget for freebie. It's for sale again... -

Barring the smashed door, this looks, at least at a glance, to be in about the same condition as Freebiemobile. Did he say if it runs/ran? If so, this thing could be a very sweet project... -
key/ignition lubrication question
Ever Victorious replied to Ever Victorious's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Those are already out of the car. I had to do a little re-wiring on the windshield wiper switch since someone before me wired in what appears to be a POT to control the speed (home brew intermittent wiper kit). I also don't have any of the trim pieces that go over the steering column PERIOD, they're just missing (hence why my turn signal switch isn't anchored) -
decode vin numbers
Ever Victorious replied to mudgoat1983's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What kind of help do you need? the VIN indicates the car year (83) and type (GL Wagon 4WD 4MT D/R), and gives its serial number (36494)... -
