  1. FWD or 4WD? if FWD, the rear brake assembly (rotors, calipers w/flex line, backing plates) from both sides.
  2. Were I not making a P-a-P run today, I'd probably join...
  3. EA81's have been very bulletproof for me. Also, the EJ22's have been very reliable. Then again, I never had a problem with my EA82... despite breaking a timing belt, hosing up the water pump, and driving 5 miles in stop-and-go freeway traffic to the nearest service station, it still ran great.
  4. Hmmm... Think I might need to borrow the wife's SUV on monday....
  5. The keylock assembly does the exact same thing my '82 DL wagon did... all the locks on the exterior of the car work great, but the key doesn't work well in the ignition. Seemed to me that freshly cut keys always worked better... so that's another thing I can try. As for interior components... I'm not kidding when I say it is a total loss. There are only a couple pieces I may salvage... the dash down to the climate controls, the gauge cluster, the door panels, and the steering wheel. Everything else is moldy, torn, and/or rusted (the driver's seat has lost 2 of 4 mounting points on the rails. thankfully the floor mounts are still intact). I couldn't help myself, though... I just HAD to put a couple gallons of gas in her, fire her up, and take her around the block. If that engine IS 197k miles old, it is in DAMN good shape. She pulls hard when asked, and only stuttered once, going around a corner. Clutch is definitely new... it is so tightly adjusted that the instant you let it go from the floor, it goes. Definite exhaust leak, though... probably near the manifolds. VERY loud... louder than the Flowmaster on my Kia. And she doesn't smoke much at all now that I've run her through a short run.
  6. Thankfully, there wasn't much of anything wrong with the drivetrain. Well, besides me. I'm hoping it's just what you mentioned in the 2nd paragraph. I just changed the oil, but am planning to change the coolant soon, there's a radiator hose that needs dire attention. I'll do them at the same time. So... I guess priorities are... 1) title! 2) get new ignition switch, make extra keys, and fill gas tank 3) coolant and radiator hoses 4) new hatch 5) strip interior, get new seats, bleach anything that's left 6) get fresh tires 7) emissions and registration 8) attack the rust Or something like that.
  7. Yeeeeeeehaw! Thanks, Xoomer... for pointing out what a braindead puke I am. Battery cables that have sat for 6 years are very, very dirty. I cleaned the inside contacts and she turned over fine... and was EXTREMELY surprised when she actually fired... WITH NO GAS IN THE TANK! She runs... she idles... she smokes. Dunno if that was crap built up in her engine bay or what, but I need to fix the ignition switch before I do too much more (lest I break the only key I have)
  8. ok, Freebiemobile now has a new filter and oil, and I've got a can of gas ready for when I get the engine lubricated enough to fire. New problem: I obtained a new battery, which makes contact and I get continuity through the system (move the key to ON and get all the warning lights, the fan blower, plus the whir of... well, whatever it is that whirs before the starter motor engages). The ignition tumbler has a hard time getting to the "start" position (seen this before, think I can fix it with an old Chevy ig switch). As soon as I turn the switch to "start", the starter motor kicks once, then the entire electrical system goes dead until I exit the car, disconnect both battery cables, then reconnect them both. Turn off all accessories, same thing. Ideas?
  9. I think it's time I start to live up to my new nick... I didn't let the stuck filter on freebiemobile get me down... especially since it "bit" me last time (tore the extender tendons on the back of my left hand the first time I tried) I have managed to grunt the oil filter off, without damaging the threads on the oil pump. Time for a little dinner then a trip to Pep Boys...
  10. That's a very obscure cross-reference, too... have you taken the caliper to a part store and compared it to one that is known to be for that acura? I get this sneaking suspicion that the acura part was a misprint...
  11. Just ended... He was pinned in and tried to run in a driveway... car was hit again, by a patrol car. Edit: more info: this car was stolen after a home invasion robbery. If this belonged to someone here, I am deeply, deeply sorry... you didn't deserve to be victimized by this piece of trash.
  12. Yes. Turn on King5. He's run through a fence, driven through a golf course, and been hit by 2 more trucks.
  13. And it's a blue SVX. rear driver's quarter window is gone, and he ran into a truck but is still going. PULL OVER AND GIVE US YOUR CAR, YOU UNGRATEFUL BASTARD!!!!! rrrr... Edit:... vehicle's stolen.
  14. I'm jealous. My Kia won't even chirp in 1st gear unless I'm sitting ON the paint for the stop bar... Stupid automatics.
  15. Give it some time. sometimes it takes a while for someone from the area to get around to reading the post.
  16. Great pics, Brian. Loved the view of Reno over the mountain, too... reminds me of what Ellensburg would look like if it were bigger. And drier.
  17. Counterclockwise. Same direction from on my back as standing above it looking down. Same direction it was on all my EA81's. I've run into this once before where there was a filter I couldn't remove, but the other car was a Chevy, so I didn't care.
  18. Well, then whoever has the money to devote to the project will have an easy time doing it. (Replacing the pump will exceed my budget, it defeats the purpose to exceed said budget)
  19. And now I have a punctured, mangled filter and an oily, bent screwdriver. YAAAY! Project done... if I can't get the filter off, and if the filter is punctured, the engine is useless to me... I'm not equipped or competent for engine swaps.
  20. actually had a pair lying around. now I just have a really mangled filter, still attached. <sigh>... I guess I have to try puncturing it now....
  21. I'm trying to avoid that... last time I tried that, the filter STILL wouldn't come off, so the engine was unusable.
  22. Hey guys - I'm starting the prep work on Freebiemobile. I've got the oil drained, the gas drained, the air filter replaced, and the battery ready to be hooked up. Unfortunately, I've run across a bit of a snag... the oil filter doesn't seem to want to come off. I've sprayed WD-40 in the general vicinity of the old filter's threads (worked on the oil drain plug, figured "why not?"... cleaned all the oily gunk off the filter, tried a strap-style filter wrench with no luck, and I even went out and got the ratchet attachment for this filter, but it just slowly spins around the end of the filter, not actually moving it. Suggestions?
