  1. I have a 95 legacy w/auto trans that has play in the axle stub on the front differential on the drivers side. The stub moves up and down, not in and out. As a result the axle gets too much play causing vibration at all speeds and is pretty severe at high speeds. I can hear the axle clunk at times when starting from a dead stop. The car has 158K miles and both axles have been replaced and are in good shape. The differential case diagram shows that there is a roller bearing between the side retainer and the differential case. I am thinking that this may be the cause of the play. Does anyone have any experience with the insides of the front differential? Can this roller bearing be removed after taking out the side retainer? If the bearing is tapered is it possible that the side ratainer needs to be tightened down to hold it firmly in place? Thanks - th
  2. Can anyone tell me the color of the wires that go to the programming button for the car alarm? I cannot find the button anywhere, and have a few loose wires under the drivers dash. Am thinking somewhere along the line the button may have been removed. Thanks - th
  3. As far as I can tell they were never removed. I also do not see any fluid, oil, or grease around the stub.
  4. I have a 95 legacy awd with auto transmission. In the process of replacing some clunky drive axles I noticed play in the drivers side stub axle(where the axle connects to the transmission). I have read many comments on this, but have not seen any way to fix the play. I am concerned as I have noticed another clunk from the drivers side when I start moving. Am also concerned that there is some vibration from this play at higher speeds. Questions: What does the axle stub sit in? How does this develop play? Can be repaired without tearing down the transmission? What kind of damage is this doing to the transmission? Any guesses on how long before it all comes apart? Thanks - th
  5. I have a manual fwd 5sp trans that was removed from a 93 Legacy L that has been in my garage for 6 years. I have recently gotten a lead on a 95 Impreza L(fwd) with a bad manual trans. Thought they might make a good couple. Would like to know if a trans from the 93 2.2L Legacy will fit on the 95 1.8L Impreza? If so will there be any modifications required? Both are manual front wheel drive models. Thanks - th
  6. Recently purchased a 95 Legacy lsi. It did not come with the lock transmitter, so I got a new one. Now I cannot find the reset button to re-program the system. Have looked all over under the drivers side, but cannot find any button. Does anyone know where this button is supposed to be, or the color of the wires that go to the button? Thanks - th
