Fuel pump noise now has pauses
jono replied to KiwiBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Put an aftermarket pump on if you wanna hear its heartbeat. Happy I went to pressured tank propane Kiwi, might be a number of things and given the age of our old girls it would not hurt to inspect and flush out fuel lines from front to back so you know they flow well, replace any rubber fuel lines as they can deteriorate on the inside and cause grief. Chuck in some quality fuel cleaner for a tank or two THEN replace fuel filter - that;s the fuel side Could be electrical too. Maybe run your radio power from fuel pump pos power, see if fuel pump is getting constant power Does it vary depending on how full or empty the fuel tank is? -
Gonna bump this to the top to make it an easy find to add a photo I thought this might be a topic of interest

EA81 Oil Pressure Woes (Where to connect shop gauge?)
jono replied to Evinrude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
He is probably out and about in his little ute :) I have read in here someone saying not to run both idiot light and gauge senders together. have one or the other but not both. I read this after I did this to my utes EA82, well , actually was an EA81 at first. With 15W40 I can see 100 psi on my gauge when cold and maybe revving more than should. When everything is warm and at idle speed of 800 rpm I keep seeing the needle drop to zero, but there is no knock, no other indication of problems and pressure picks up as soon as I give things a squirt again. Every pump I have done has been in spec - yet not pulled all the pressure plugs and springs - they don't want to come out ! -
Ea82 timing belt covers mounting part#'s
jono replied to jono's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The size of hoppers we get here and next door's cat that likes my car's purchase me to keep belts enclosed. Same goes for anal instructions from timing belt supplier regarding belt hygiene -
And I suppose none of those US built were EA platform. Great bit of info GD

The EA82 mongrel has had a bit of a leak only overnight, never parked about during the day. this morning a green puddle was out the door as the reservoir was topping things up, never emptied the radiator. decided to try the mystery black block of sealwel to see how it behaved with water pump seals To be Continued ....i

Hey ! You are guilty in first instance of not telling us you replaced timing belts in first blurb !! Well done on forgetting that starter solenoid wire That is the important one and the wire intercepted if you were to install a starter relay to take load off the poor old girls starter ignition switch. We also need to be careful in saying the car does not have starter relay as in 30 years it is quite possible someone (needed to ) install one. It must have had a FWD non turbo clutch and flywheel to be wrong/smaller one. Did you have to change the flywheel as well ? Can you advise what the engine combo is please?

It would help if I could add a photo, but no Dave, the labels are very new current day sort of in black print, source country USA
-
if you come back before bennie you may need to state which year model you are using. You normally supply pos power direct to pump and switch the earth via that relay I think in these Subes. Can you test the output of your relay? You may need to test all wires at relay and come back. May get some faster replies over in the EJ section

The seven rubber gaskets for the rear covers to block. Nice to use new parts and know available. The part number identifies with Fiori EN800 Rex? With the KA bit
-
First I have noticed with genuine gaskets from USA into Oz. Have only ever seen parts with made in Japan on the label as always seen from Australian dealers. Recently ordered intake throttle body to inlet manifold gasket to be told ex Japan. Days later told none left in mother land either. A quick look to see plentiful supply in USA. When I can arrange affordable transit and get them in my hands gonna bet made in USA, or old stock

Need some assistance with ea82t
jono replied to Kitcarguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Here in Oz the Series one with flapper AFM really only known as 85 86 model. Notice someone deleted Subaru 4WD from the ,"intercooler". I thought turbo exhaust gasket between head and header were different in their construction and materials. More detail in wrapping metal around gasket rather than something cookie cut from a sheet of stuff Surely you can pull the radiator and seek out specialist radiator guys for the cap.? -
Looks like a bowl vent. Didn't spray degreaser while engine running did you? I did once and got similar look to things

This time around reassembling my EA82T I notice more of the little holes designed to drain oil back to the sump after oil seals and things. I noticed in only one block case half there is a track that looks like a drain hole from below or behind the oil pump to the sump. I also noticed that originally this hole was mostly, if not completely blocked with block sealant. For those with leaking oil pump issues, I wonder if this track, bit like an ant tunnel , can contribute to external oil leaks at the oil pump ? A photo would be good, but not this time

Temperature Guage not working 1990 Dl wagon

I always shove an extra factory style earth wire from engine block to body hoping to eliminate future earthing troubles -
Clutch Cable replacement blunders
jono replied to gadberry's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
In RHD land I recently found that the part number for 82, 83 clutch cable is one digit below that of the 84 onwards clutch cable Usually a number increment is a supercession, but not in this case If I find these numbers I will post them up for reference -

or just the cleanliness of contact between sender body and manifold threads. they are only one wire to sender at this vintage. I do not know if water is the best earth, maybe it is using the coolant for earth ?? -
there is one called 303 ? supposed to have anti UV stuff. need to apply then buff the heck out of it to remove it. I have scored two perfect dash tops from wreckers over the years - figured the best thing to preserve them was a few years layers of dust :) I hate dash mats - why have something cover something you want to see - only to hand it to the next owner with no cracks ??

If it is any help I have found to replace the sender unit for temp gauge gives a wider reading. I am not sure if you touch the temp sender wire end to the earth of the engine or body when ignition is ON, I think the needle shoots to maximum HOT
