  1. Maybe contact supplier . Aftermarket fuel tanks...what next !
  2. This is actually third EJ I have got now, but only one running as it is a complete unadulterated car and not just a donk Came with a bonus miss #2 plug is black, all others pristine porcelain 200-205 psi in all four HEI plug tester shows spark bug with some delay .? Tried two dmm on 20k scale and got no change to the 1 on screen. But same on #4 lead ! Being new school is there a different method and resultant reading for these original genuine e leads? Any helpappreciated. Meanwhile might try one new spark plug just in case
  3. More than one fpr ? cannot think why ..... maybe the extras are dampers not pressure regs ? Ebay is full of adjustable fpr with gauge/ Rock also do them for mpfi and turbo which run at about 36 psi
  4. Amazingly tight from the factory after a lot of years, you'd swear they torqued up too much. The real grip is not the threads but between the back of that washer built in behind the head and front face of pulley. A sharp whack with BFH on the head a few times once anti stick CRC556 applied to near back of bolt head, overnight spray soak with rag stuffed around it to stop run off - might work
  5. Anything wrong with 4 sp box? The five speed won't make it go faster or quicker to noticeable difference. Possibly slower to 100 but having five cogs feels good, get a better control of driving
  6. Many people seem to comment they prefer the cast iron OEM style impeller to the pressed from flat steel type well, I ordered some stuff from Rock and what was in the box, a cast iron impeller complete with country of origin China maybe it needs to be wholesaler closeouts to get the not made in china product ? So, just putting it out there if this is the impeller you want for EA82
  7. hah, and you are the victim of auto suggest , flogged your fwd entry and given us fed :) Not the first time
  8. Not picking Dean here, but he says he believes the earlier Imps had a 3.7:1 diff ratio. I think there were 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 Imps may all be different in lots of respects such as diff ratios. So when someone suggests something, make sure you get the specifics Man, am I starting to sound like GD ?
  9. Gotta love that word "just" when it comes to stuffing something better into these Brumbies, this word is an understatement if I ever heard one ! See all that space you have around the ute ? I hope it is yours and be prepared to say goodbye to it. If you really want a screamer or just to keep up with your mates or the traffic, souping it up with engines and better brakes will not be the end of it. These and the L Series have ancient handling. Just park it on the flat and turn the wheels halfway or a bit more. see how the underside of the front wheel looks like it is folding in under? I reckon you'd be hard pressed to find another make / model that does this I have seen a Brumby with Impreza steering, suspension and driveline that lost this weird want to buckle its lead wheels underneath Take Dean's words on stopping seriously and check out what he has done - copy him and you can't go wrong...actually, words of wisdom I could have done with years ago anyone that tells you what to do, and how. get them to show you theirs and an honest account of what parts and how much it cost them
  10. Don't let GDs comments put you off a case split if that came up. Now you have a spare to pull apart to help get the other one together if you get stuck I pulled my first EA81 apart alone with a paper manual. No forum junkies breathing down my neck. The experience was one of appreciation for Fuji's engineers. That engine gave me 180,000 nipple revving kilometres Get familiar with rockauto.com catalogue for EA81 parts. We use them from as far away as Australia
  11. There we go pics uploaded. Tried an extra one but hit the 2 MB limit. Really? Also a shot of the two Welch plugs at the back of the water log. If you run ea82 mpfi na or turbo and not replaced these babies due to failure or dare I say - preventative maintenance '- you are fortunate something is still holding the rust together ! Cleaned out the EGR port from entry to exit. Can only say holy crud fujiman ! And as the way Murphy works....found another turbo manifold put away in a hard to find place
  12. Given an 85 RX had disc brakes you'd reckon a 99 RX would have disc rear. This RX looks like the first shape/series, and drum rear is something I had noted before with the RX and thought ripped off ! Oh, yes , talking about an Impreza, which I know is rare for me. I have no idea just yet when Impreza first came out and when series changed
  13. aha, another case of not getting the whole story up front. Goes like this, while it was laid up waiting for the dizzy to be returned .... OK. This relay people speak of but don't really explain - might be a good time to do it to save hassles in the future. It has something to do with the old contacts in the back of the ignition switch or wiring, letting you down. Trick is a horn relay of 30 or 40 Amps. I like the ones that come with a joey pocket (as in marsupial joey pocket ) that takes a blade fuse That black wire with white ? trace that goes to starter solenoid goes to 86 of relay. get a good earth from body to pin 85 . Get a nice chunky wire with good connection to battery pos and connect to pin 30 Pin 87 chunky wire then goes to starter solenoid. So, when you hit ignition switch to crank position only needs a light trigger voltage to trip the relay to make it feed direct from battery to solenoid. Should never have a no crank problem after this unless flat battery or the relay blows up !
  14. The whole car I am looking at is drum braked RX so could be a 3.9 being the early povo edition with no disc rear. Just look at me, not finishedcurrent project or next one and I am looking at sick EJ prey
  15. Oh I need a heater , it is the throttle body heat circuit I cut out
  16. Say so if you don't know what you are looking for in 'checking' cables In the pasI have found positive cable needs stripping back 10 mm clean up cable with sand paper etc some spray oil and tighten all the terminal nuts n bolts...fixed both times Aaluminium cables seem to grow invisible insulating corrosion I have been caught out twice changing starter first
  17. Is it easy to know if this model had just one diff ratio or was there a few? Also curious of front drive stubs on gearbox ...EA81 friendly 23 splined? Or no such luck with any EJ box?
  18. Access on one thing, photos on another (they weren't there after punching title) Haha, gotta be ahead of oneself while making changes. A dialogue before photos land. To avoid replacing/ renewing throttle body heater hoses I have drill out the crusty fittings, drilled and tapped to 28 tpi taper and plugged them. Also pulled the cold start air bypass tube and capped it with a Welch plug The main thing this post is about is the metal coolant tube from under thermostat to turbo. I could only find an NA inlet manifold so whipped out the temp sender, fitted in a reducer from M16 1.5 to the taper fittings, added a 90° and then a barb. Eliminates one PITA spot for a clamp in usual spot. Using numerous metal temp sensors to monitor engine temp. Reckon the twin core Brumby radiator takes better care of EA82 cooling than standard issue single core EA82 radiator
  19. Gees Bennie, series 1 impreza here aS THE 2.0 rx HAD 3.9 DIFFS? oops, caps lock off they certainly lack the tell tale stickers of MY and l series diffs I am sitting on a 3.9:1 diff and 5MT 4WD box, that diff could be handy if this Impreza came my way. Still sits in owners front yard. Wreckers offered $20 (yeah twenty bucks) so I need to better that and not be too rude about it
  20. and that is what I loved about my GLTA while it was still 4WD 3AT , mash it and kickdown switch kicked in the rear wheel traction
  21. Subaru don't do a kit as such for the EA82 Series one, they did it piece by piece. I bet you can pull yours apart, get seals and bearings from even a bearing shop and be done. Did mine years ago. Circlip pliers were handy
  22. There are EA82s and there are EA82's. I am running twin port mpfi heads and intake and certain it breathes better than a single port. Actually mine has turbo heads and cams with oil feed and drain plugged up - to be unplugged some rainy day , hee hee Just which EJ did you levitate to silverhelme ? There are EJ's and there are EJs . I do not think I ever want an EJ in a MY EA81 Brumby body without awd, given how much a PITA it is having that get up and go of even an EA82T on 12 pounds of boost and having front wheel scrabble. So then I think about EJ AWD, if it all fits and works, how far do you go to retain same or better IE lower revs at cruise speeds. Currently looking at a basket case AWD RX of 99 as a donor. With 195.60.15 tyres they are so close to what I run now, and maybe could step up to 195.60.15 from my 50 series and not notice a thing, except it puts it out of allowable nom. tyre dia
