  1. BUmPeD agains I got questions I have an EJ22 from a 96 Liberty you guys call Legacy The name Legacy is already used in Oz for returned servicemen assistance organisation so out f respect the name Liberty was used I feel the need to compare EJ22 to my EA82T s and EA82 Mongrel Feck its heavy !! I have pulled the plug off the back of the RHS head to reveal what looks like a central slot at the rear of the cam I look at a Fiori/Rex EN08 distributor with points , its drive is also centric, not off set I look at an 82 Ford Escort dizzy which has offset drive [definitely offset] and starting to think HUH ? How can the one engine be converted to dizzy and carb with either of these dizies with or with out mods Does anyone know if the EJ22 had two styles of cams for the RHS, one having centric, the other of set slots? I guess a centic drive could be made at great expense to be fitted to the Escort dizzy ..... The fewer wires added to an MY / EA81 the better [i'll be saying this until I kill my guts changing points on a wet n wild dark night }
  2. Dans crack If you have EA82 heads off and cleaned up can often see cracks between valves on combustion side, a little further cleaning of exhaust port with bead blasting can often see the crack further in. I have had heads pressure tested to ensure crack is not a problem. Subaru issued a buletin to say essentially "crack is OK" Some will fail vacuum test, many pass, if pass reuse or can get welded up. My welded heads lasted years untill I let them sit, now got a weep coming from exhaust pipe to heads exhaust gasket. Tested heads going in shortly GO THE EA82 !!
  3. My method over the years has been the combination of both suggestions, thanks gents. I also found the EA82 cam box sealant groove is beased cleaned up by soaking it in a thin pool of degreaser or kero, turps is good too I used t use silicone sealnts for sumps but found I m usually the next poor bugger to pull sump or rocker cover off next time around - I wanna be able to get them off without severe distortion :D Wasn't exactly RTV automotive, more "smuggled out of the joinery in the lunchbox"glazing silicone. Had a guy doing that from our coin mint here, raised a few suspicions in a town cashing in shiny gold con for notes. Think the Monday at the bank was a few traders raising concerns this guy wearing Royal Australan Mint T shirt was up to no good. Cops soon found over 100,000 in $2 coins at his mums place, according to legend. He served time for that brilliant effort
  4. Any lazy arse tricks such as soak in keep for a week etc? I hate cleaning these the usual way. Just stripping an ea81 from late 83, yet to hit 150 k km but sitting not good for it. Gonna split block and check rings Three bent push rods for starters coz so.done tried to run it on ten year old fuel!,
  5. 85 is set at 20 but can't recall if you connect or disconnect any plugs but as the dizzy has a can and guts the ecu does not play with timing . so pretty sure nothing needs connect or disconnect to read or set timing
  6. Car done it is, I will say it like a local thanks It is a dizzy to slap on the back of an EJ22
  7. All one word in one go like an Italian family name or card one or car done or car dunn ? I got one of their reco Escort dizzys in the mail today, all the way down under
  8. I think I recall someonbe saying there is a list of things YOU need to check do replace ...before expecting reliability out of these great old dinosaurs
  9. WTF swap in dubious life span LED bulbs when some of us still have original Japanese made bulbs workling just fine after 30 years ?? Had LED burn out wholly and partially just in last few months where I dont have Japanese made bulbs
  10. A thought came to me as I tore down the highway in near 100F ambient air temps (measured in a twin louvred air flow controled white box) so its 15 degrees or more hotter in the sun. My EA82 is cooler than it has ever been before on a day like today...why ??? Nah, Nah..I got a twin core, I got a twin core Stupid thing is, it is the EA81 radiator ! The EA82 that sits in my Brumby is happy. This is better than the EA82 rad on its own or even with the AC condensor I plumbed up for extra fins and water capacity. So, never read of anyone sugesting, trying or using an EA81 radiator in their EA82 series veehickle If I was able to run ann EA82 rad in my EA81 body, why cant someone do opposite in their EA82 bodies??
  11. Jaysus - you got picture presentation skills for in here?
  12. you put a new module in first due to wealth of experience and not fix problem but a known good used one did? so returning new module ? planets must be aligned for those modules to fail around the world. mine failed a month ago. good used one fixed me too
  13. I think the numbers may be a Bosch thing copied by many that make aftermarket auto "horn relays" So each time you hook one up you look for the tiny numbers cast in the underside easily seen by youthful eyes A useful website is www.the12v.com has lots of auto electrical tips n threads. Whenever a relay is involved they use these numbers Get any relay attach 12 pos to 86 terminal 12 neg to 85 terminal and you will hear and feel a click inside. There is a coil of clear insulated wire inside. When you give each end of the coils leads or terminals pos and neg power you created an electro magnet. This attracted part of a switch on a bendy piece of spring metal that then switched a circuit capable of carrying a heavier electrical load.. The joey pocket is as in kangaroo joey pouch pocket Some relays have a socket in their front to take a blade fuse. Cist more but you can find its fuse easy and quick. No extra wires and connections for an inline fuse
  14. NRMA do classic for not dailys and they need to determine if something is special or not, and mods, the more the merrier Never thought Id say that about them, ditched em thirty years ago until mid last year, Best package ever !
  15. Huh, my oldies had a 74 HQ 202 slushbox , drank petrol like a 351 with auto, PS and air You are so right about breathless at 110 kph, and wallow, would go through water pumps, tail pipes and rear shocks They went Japanese after 19 years in the Q , soon after mum got caught doin' 140 down the highway - too used to the breathless old Silver Anniversary. Abused the copper and swore my old man to secrecy importers rather than wreckers eh ? C;mon, some pics of EJ intakes and dizzys is now your muushon
  16. That listing suggests it posts from Darwin bit closer than China says includes sensor. Can I suggest you will want more than one once you tinker. Has nice little relay in it to switch more relays
  17. It comes...well actually all mine have..maybe check its listing and move onto one that does. I then found a pair of ring terminals more electrical than auto electrical. One size I drilled the ferrule out to 4 mm to take sensor, cut the ring off and that bit then jammed inside of ferrule of next size up eye, ring terminal that had a hole to suit M8 12mm head bolt of thermostat housing and that is where sensor is. One of them anyway. Got another on LPG converter to warn if it freezes over. Another is overheat alarm, or impending overheat. Also wanna stuff in an outside and inside set too
  18. get prepared for lots of stuff that is dizcontnued for a car that stopped production a third of a century ago
  19. schemtaic is not what you need is it - stil talking bush ? You most likely need to know if the original that is likely fitted, if it has an external metal sleeve that needs to be knocked out or burnt out with the rubber bush, how wide the bush can be min or max, bolt hole size and bush outer diameter are you that remote that the Indians from India have not infiltrated workshops your area with popular common rubber bushings ? See a workshop that deals in suspension or differentials, they may have the answer on the shelf, the press to get old out, new in
  20. ground it to the block, and for good measure ensure you have two decent block to body earth cables. Most EA will have a gearbox to spare wheel carrier body connection and a fatter engine block to body cable. EA81 have main earth cable battery to block. EA82 earth cable fatty goes to bracket at starter motor. Do something like this and ground all grounds to engine block and you wil be fine.
  21. So....do you ever find these not popular things kicking about New Zealand, EJ dizzys and carb intake manifolds? Be worth grabbing for export across the ditch - our ditch, not to the US I thought it was such an insult us exporting our backfire 4 Commodores to NZ but maybe the fuel economy was a big hit over there?
  22. Has a basic look been done to it for starters before leaping into harder things, like pan off, inspect and replace filter and fluid. A number of bung plugs on the side can be opened and hooked up for pressure tests - have you any fluid pressure gauges etc Have to admit I got a from you looking for the 3 speeds TCM Lucky I didnt answer first as I might have suggested you follow the wiring connections from the trans to find the module :)I
  23. Whats that you say?? Maybe it is tappets and valve bounce that is rude on the ears. EA82 with its OHC and Mizpah lifters is blissfully quiet Hey subnz, confirm NZ got carbed EJ in early 90's either as new or grey imports ??
